Ok i just thought to share my border experience here... I just landed in manchester now via Qatar airways and cleared with immigration. The immigration officer just asked for my passport and CAS. He saw that i had my BSC in Tanzania and said oh he loved tanzania when he visited and i responded with "Oh i love it too". He just said welcome to the Uk,stamped my passport and said cheers and Goodluck. He did not ask me any single question. Just thought i should share. Cheers Mate. |

What would be your advice, is PhD structural engineering worth it? In present UK market, I have a supervisor already but has no fund, so will be self sponsored at Teeside lexybaba1234: |

wishgit:Dear Wishgit, As per your question and this is my honest take. With the current situation of things (immigration politics, new rules) and the reality on ground (unemployment rate keep increasing). It's not sure for the anybody, especially in recent times. But in your situation, with your proposed course of study (PhD structural engineering) which is a STEM course at PhD level. You have some advantages over the Non STEM courses. 1) You are eligible for PhD Points, and again PhD STEM which is +20 points. This means you can benefit highly from salary discounts 2) Your field is still mentioned in the TSL, Building and civil engineering technician is still available in the TSL, 3113 or 3113 I think. If you are good technically you can be lucky to get hired with little training. 3) From January as announced yesterday PSW will now be 18 months for Masters while they said PhD still remain 3 years. 4) You might be lucky to work with good academics and do some interesting research which will be beneficial for the UK. This can get you some options like Global talent visa which I am currently using in the UK which eliminate the sponsorship wahala. Like me I don't need sponsorship and I will never need for me and my dependant. PhD is the minimum requirement in Science and Engineering. This is the bottom line, UK of today doesn't promise anybody but you still have some career advantages relative to someone studying certain courses (unfortunately these courses are lot more) which are very hard and difficult to land sponsorship roles. It is a reality. You requested for advice and a just gave my 2 cents. We are all adult and we know the best. all the best in your career. |

Goodevening all the gurus in the house.@lexybaba1234,@Emmanuelowems and goodevening to everyone. I need your advice and direction too. I have an unconditional offer,Msc electrical and electronics engineering, university of Plymouth. since 2023. I couldn't meet up financially.I spent all the money I had then on my late wife's breast cancer.i still lost her.I deferred the admission to 2024.yet cldnt meet up.defered to Jan 2026 but the sch instead of Jan,deferred to Sept. After series of mails, they have sent me a Jan 2026 start date offer(unconditional offer letter).before the sch sent me this offer I was interviewed rigorously and extensively because I told them abt my previous refusals by US and Canada(I told them considering my deposit refund Incase of refusal). after the interview, which they told me was successful, they sent me the unconditional offer but requested I send them the proof of financial evidence(I guess POF) that I intend using for my visa application before they'll issue me CAS.I believe it has to do with the reason I gave them for my denial(financial instability). Pls for the sake of my kids future,I want to sell off everything I have here to sponsor my travel. (1)Pls how are my going to send same POF to the sch and also use it for visa application? (2)Since the sch wasn't responding as regards adjusting the date I requested,I applied for France visit visa but it was rejected. Reason:Purpose of stay not reliable(I didn't book tour reservations)and there are reasonable doubts that you will not leave the Schengen area when your visa expires.I was asked to correct them the reasons and reapply before Plymouth now sent me the adjusted offer letter. Now,the sch is not aware of this new France denial. They are only aware of the us and Canada.Informing the sch won't it attract another interview again.but my deposit refund is what am also considering. Pls what shld do I do now? Should I start running the POF so I can submit to the sch to get my cas?the total money I can raise from everything if sold can only cover my deposit,IHS,visa fee,TB,flight and sch accommodation for few months.I really do not want to lose this course waiting to be fully ready financially.can I really meet up to bal up? Pls your advice? (3)Pls how much is IHS for a 1 yr msc.I heard IHS is refundable.Pls this is not to be pessimistic but I just want to know.if it is,is there anything I shld do now before applying? Thanks.I am open for advice and direction. |

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my visa approval timeline. Visa application ukvi - 12 th of September Biometrics 17th September Additional documents requested on the 29th of September. Please provide the following documents: Official, verifiable documents to demonstrate what you have been doing since your graduation in 2014 Send my transcript, certificate, employment letter, employment payment evidence. 3rd of October received email stating that they are unable to make a decision within the time frame. 6th of October - Additional documents requested. My birth certificate I submitted was from the local government. They only accept NPC issued birth certificate. My dad is my sponsor so they need birth certificate to show proof of relationship. I had to start the process of obtaining an NPC issued birth certificate. It took almost there days to be ready. On the 9th of October I submitted the requested npc birth certificate to ukvi. Hoping to get a decision before my latest registration deadline 15th of October On Monday 13th of October waited from morning till evening constantly checking my email. Around 5pm my agent adviced me to send a paid email request for an update and regarding the urgency of the registration deadline. By 5:25 PM about 20 minutes after submitting the paid email enquiry. The Visa Successful email arrived in my email. I was so happy. Proceeded to link up my evisa. Then booked a ticket with British Airways on the 14th of October to get to London Heathrow airport and then join a connection flight to Aberdeen. I am attending University of Aberdeen for an MRes degree. Landed in Aberdeen on the 15th of October 9:30am. Took a taxi down to the University of Aberdeen and competed my registration. That's My Visa Success story. For everyone still hoping or starting this process I pray for favor for you. |

Dear ohlordhavemercy, Am sorry for your loss. As per your study visa application, this is my honest advice. I am not an immigration expert but only telling you what I think and I won't like you to take me too serious. 1) It is completely normal for universities in UK to request for POF before they issue CAS. Not only because of your situation, although an extra layer of scrutiny may be applied to you because of multiple differer. 2) Most people usually use the same POF for school and UKVI. That's fine, the most important thing is the genueness of the funds. 3) I won't sell all I have to come to the present UK with the current situation of things. Except you hear the voice of God that is telling you go I am with you yourself. 4) IHS is only refundable if the visa is refused, application withdrawn or you qualify for health and care worker reimbursement scheme. 5) It is in your best interests to let them know you have visa refusal from France during CAS and Visa application. All the best mate. ohlordhavemercy: |

Please i tried using flywire to pay for my tuition deposit and the bank they provided for the transfer is moniepoint when I tried making the transfer the account name was monnify checkout. I had to cancel the transfer because I was skeptical about it. I want to ask if that's normal or not because millions of naira is involved I have to be very careful. |

Emmanuelowems:I’m currently applying for Mres chemistry at the university of Plymouth, I’m curious as to why you’re of the opinion that Mres route is more complex as compared to the regular master’s. Do you mind throwing more light? |

| Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 9 by Emmanuelowems: 10:07pm On Oct 17, 2025 |
Charlex23:It’s obvious that people mainly applied for an Mres course because of the option that allows you to take your dependants, now it’s becoming complex because it takes more time to get an Mres offer compared to getting a normal MSc offer so it’s advisable to plan for both so you don’t miss out totally except your priority is to take your dependants along |

Hello everyone, I need advice. My family wants to support me with the proof of funds from their pockets. The question is, what should the narration be? The bulk sum is coming from one person and about two people are sending smaller amounts like 5M each. What narration should these two people use? I appreciate your input on this please, thank you. |
