Agbalowomeri:Sold all my Access Bank shares this week. While other banks are planning to release their Q3 results, paid/declared interim dividends. CBN has not approved the H1 result of Access Bank on the the 16th of October This is a big red flag |

awesomeJ:Lol, prices are already messed up, and people’s purchasing power has been severely hit. I’m putting it to you, there is no deflation. A reduction in the prices of a few items while others are still rising cannot be used as a basis for argument. The best that could happen is single-digit inflation, and even that would be a miracle. Your boyish optimism is well noted, though. ![]() |

Mpeace:I don't even think I will worry myself on this CGT. It's been there since without enforcement so what will be different? |

ositadima1:Boyish is good. You can look for harsher qualfiers if you want. But your comprehension problem still seems to persists. If prices on some items are down, then there's defaltion on those items. It's all I said, so why are you talking long? I mean I posted about inflation number at 18% why would you infer that I said the economy has now entered deflation? Purchasing power blah blah is not at all in context here. Maybe I should just leave you to get sober. |

Agbalowomeri:The difference is: Usually the committee usually given this assignments, deliver Te results and the committee is dissolved e.g Orasanyas report. The Presidential tax and Fiscal policy committee is not going to be dissolved anytime soon. They will work together with FIRS(NRS) and keep fine tuning this new tax laws until it's implementation and stability. Remember, they are also to monitor the Fiscal side as well. Kind of efficient use of the tax proceeds amongst others . That's probably why "fiscal" is part of their name. Others presidential committeee before now just report to the presidency and it ends there just like confab report as well. |

Agbalowomeri:Lol. Fear of the unknown! ![]() You are right, though. But when I think about how some decisions have been taken with serious negative impact on the citizens, it makes me panic. Previous dispensation refused to implement the CGT, same way they refused to increase fuel price from N199 to N1,000 under the guise of deregulation or ''removing subsidy on petrol'', same way they refused to massively devalue the naira by more than 90% under the guise of ''removing subsidy on forex'' . But under the current dispensation, caution and fear become necessary. They may decide to ''remove subsidy on gains in NGX'' Anything that extorts money from the people and gives them more revenue may be justified under the guise of ''removing subsidy'' |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 2:44pm On Oct 16, 2025 |
chimex38:The previous CGT wasn't just a committee's work though. It was a law enacted and signed. They called it Finance Act, since that time VAT went from 5% to 7.5% they've had it in the form that now just got repealed. (Part of Buhari's idea to shore up govt revenue) Yet it wasn't enforced. |

awesomeJ:I’m trying to be nice to you, but you seem to prefer being spanked. There’s nothing like “deflation on some items”, that makes no sense. Inflation or deflation applies to economies, not individual items. I’m teaching you Econ 101 for free; maybe I should reconsider. You don’t know that purchasing power is closely tied to inflation? You’d better focus on your programming , you’re way outside your circle of competence. ![]() |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by chimex38: 2:53pm On Oct 16, 2025 |
awesomeJ:Well, you have a point. enacted and signed are meant to be enforced by statuitory bodies(in this case FIRS). But Ad-hoc committes are set up to make things done where statuitory bodies are usually docile, dormant or preoccupied with other moving parts of their mandate. My point is unless the committee is disbanded, they will keep singing their mandate to Nigerians and FG to remain relevant or eventually force enforcement by FIRS. We see how it goes sha... |

ositadima1:I recommend you keep your alcohol content below 30% How do you think I would spank your head if I wanted? Like send it as an attachment to a nairaland post? Maybe you're abusing the term. For deflation, you're right, I used the term wrongly. I should have used a different phrase. "price reduction" or something. For purchasing power, you're still wrong. This is the point: There's price reduction on some items and so that supports the disinflation the NBS is reporting. Your talk about purchasing power doesn't connect to that point. But since you hardly comprehend, let me help you by saying that I am not saying purchasing power has no correlation with inflation, there's obviously an inverse correlation between the two. What I'm saying is the point I made isn't about purchasing power, so don't digress. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 3:05pm On Oct 16, 2025 |
chimex38:You're exactly right. And that's indeed something different this time. The fact that the committee that midwived the tax law changes is still available to mostly drive compliance is a difference this time. |

emmanuelewumi:Don't you think Access bank's issue is temporary and they will bounce back better and stronger? UBA, FBN, Wema etc. all had similar difficult times and did some restructuring, but today they are doing well with very good returns to shareholders. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ositadima1(m): 3:34pm On Oct 16, 2025 |
awesomeJ:So, we can all agree you have no idea what you’re talking about. Don’t feel bad, we’ve all been there, but yours is becoming a bit too prolific on this sub. Disinflation doesn’t mean price reduction; it means a reduction in the rate of inflation. Prices are still increasing, just at a slower pace. I keep helping you, I’m a nice guy. If you talk about inflation, you’re indirectly talking about purchasing power, which has already deteriorated. Making posts about how things are “better” is very unintelligent. Prices have tripled in some cases, and because inflation is merely slowing, we should celebrate? Isn’t that just common sense? Every sensible person knows inflation can’t stay at 27% indefinitely, or we’d all be finished. You parading this “easing” as something wonderful only shows your boyish optimism, and your lack of deeper insight at the same time. |

mikeapollo:I didn't wait for temporary problems to be over when I sold Skye Bank, Afribank, Oceanic Bank, Union Bank and Intercontinental Bank shares, some people thought it was a temporary problem. When I sold Oando shares, some people thought it was a temporary problem. Unfortunately it took Oando 10 years before it got back to the price I sold it.
