GeeKudi:
The Nigerian populace is at the mercies of its merciless capitalists. Here, prices can double over night at the slightest trigger and never come down. In Europe, at the onset of the COVID crisis when there was panic shopping everywhere, you enter a mall and the shelves are almost empty but prices stayed practically unchanged in stack contrast to what obtains in Nigeria. There should be stricter regulations/laws to protect Nigerian consumers from price gouging.
Don't you think it is better to buy shares in such companies

Seems importation can't even compete.
Cuz no one is talking about importation or taking advantage of the gap as importers are still doing for petrol imports.
Cement is banned completely from being imported into Nigeria. If not many importers would have brought it into the country as it is 3 dollars in China

Classic example of the mantra:
If you can't beat them, you join them. grin

New raw material sites need to be studied and discovered by new entrants to build production plants to have a chance to compete. Especially in SS, SE and NW and NC.
since all available sites have been taken over by Dangote,BUA and Larfarge(DBL).

That's the only way to compete locally and bring price down. even if it's per state or regionally.

Of course, without doubt. I am in the stock market with a practical approach of 'following the money'. However, on a deeper look, these guys don't even make the money to benefit shareholders. In their books, you see insertions of unbelieveable percentage of revenue being taken up by production cost leaving only crumps as dividends whereas company owners and executives continue to live larger than life.

Back to the main discussion, I am of the opinion that prices of goods in Nigeria are mostly determined by greed from producers and middle men and not a true reflection of the state of the economy. There should be more measures to protect the consumers.

Why can't they set up a manufacturing plant and also benefit from the huge profit in the sector .

GDP per capita will continue to go down unless we start producing and exporting

Thank God things are gradually looking up in the last 18 months

Umahi was going to confront the issue when he muted the idea of importing cement for his road construction but I guess he didn't get the backing of those above him.

Here where I'm currently constructing, I learnt of a new brand Mangal, he too prices like his predecessors.

So even though there are now 4 players, competition still in non existent.

We have more than 4 players in the industry. We have some up north that does not come down to South. Mangal had promised to crash the price but all na propaganda as he joined the cabal in the industry

Someone mentioned high entry barrier , true , I use to think that was the only issue but there is another major one

the main limitations is most of the major limestone mining licenses are locked up , you will basically have to buy out one of the big players like was done to larfarge to have access to them ,or someone that has that mining lease and has not started production , that is where the game is

Mangal however started production recently also

Aradel is falling like a pack of cards. Jijo investors are taking their profits, and who would blame them? If I also bought at 408 and put 10 million, I'd be happy to sell off at 22 million Naira or so. We long-term investors stand strong. No shaking!

Exactly.. It can be deduced from my post as well.

All commercial available existing raw materials sites are kinda locked up by these companies.

New ones will have to be discovered by new players.
Even if its only localised in one region or few states.

I noticed good results are not moving SP of companies
Who should I hold responsible here

1. The failed Tinubu government/macro economy

2 The yeye man on suit championing CGT

3 All of the above

Despite having full Ministry of Livestock assigned to them for over 1yr now?
UACN always comes to their rescue.
Seems not this time.
