The reason for the drop is importation. Bua is exclusively importing rice and wheat to kill farmers. The other factor is that we're deep in the harvest season. You won't expect prices not to go down towards and during harvest. The incompetent Govt hasn't implemented any magic, but is smart enough to kill farming and agriculture.

A bag of rice selling at a price equivalent to minimum wage is absurd.

A Nigerian soldier told me he earned N36,000 per month in 2014, and bought 4 bags of rice from his town at N7,000 each and still got N8,000 to run expenses for the month but today, he is paid N90,000 and he can only afford a bag of rice. Na so, I begin to pity them.

Justice for military cadets.
Why you dey lie nah.

That was when minimum wage was 18k

You mean 30k and 70k minimum wage increments didn't affected his salary and you mean has has been stagnant in promotion for 11 years?

And I suppose you know me and know what I do and do not do.
And I also suppose while helping as much as we can, it is wrong to complain about insensitive government policies.

And it is right to tell those who cant afford rice to eat sand, as you did.
Enjoy. Kwantinu.

The local manufacturers were even worse and deadlier

When they had the chance, they exploited the masses with ruthless impunity

Abeg we prefer the importation if the price of local ones are more costlier

At least, herdsmen attack in Southern region have reduced drastically while the government has been providing empowerment program for our farmers
liar, the price crash is due to importation through Cotonou and others. If you want to confirm go to the border between Ogun state and Benin republic. Tunubu has opened the border for his people in that axis to make money
Re: Why Is The Price Of Rice Crashing In Lagos? by femi4: 3:54pm On Oct 28, 2025
NaijaphiliaBlog:
The price of rice is currently going through the floor in multiple markets all over Lagos, the economic capital of Nigeria.

This has been confirmed by traders and consumers in the city interviewed by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and who disclosed that the essential victual has witnessed a sudden drop in price.

The crash in price affects both local and foreign brands of rice.

In various markets such as Arena (Oshodi), Festac Town, Mile 12, and Oyingbo, a 50kg bag local rice which sold for about ₦85,000 in January 2025 currently sells between ₦60,000 and ₦70,000.

Likewise, foreign rice which was ₦95,000 as at January is now between ₦65,000 and ₦75,000 depending on the brand/location.

The price drop has been credited to improved local harvests and a massive surge in imports following the reopening of Nigeria’s borders.

When local manufacturers had opportunities to leverage on government's support and make life comfortable for fellow citizens,is it not hoarding they resorted to ? They were inflicting pains on people because they wanted to make huge profits. How can locally produced rice costs more than imported one and you want government to fold its arms and continue watching? Many of Nigerian farmers are greedy
I tell you

Greedy and always wanting to take advantage, when they just see a little opportunity

Woe to a country where men see black and call it white, a country where tribalism goes before patriotism.

Where men of true conscience are dead, hypocrisy and nepotism is the only standard for prosperity.

Shame on such men, men who continue to support evil and corruption.

Insecurity will continue to grow and thrive, I pray for the innocent citizens of this country, I pray for myself and loved ones, especially those who have no mandate or part of any decision-making in this country.

To all criminals and kidnappers, these innocent people should please be spared.

Welcome to a fantastically corrupt country

How many months will he eat the bag of rice? Is his salary meant for rice alone? How can you earn #36,000 and spend #28,000 on one item of expenditure?

The logistics company said they can not carry it because it is a contraband goods.
So rice bought in Nigeria has become contraband goods in Nigeria again.
