It's like you just heard of that word "INTRINSIC VALUE"

You make it sound like it is for select stocks, or are there companies without intrinsic values?
GEREGU at over ₦1000 has low intrinsic value because it's overpriced. cool

If naira appreciates significantly then banks will record forex losses. Their share prices will then take a hair cut. Perhaps they would be able to reclaim some of the windfall tax they paid to mitigate losses.
They are smart, they will start a gradual supply of the forex in their custody.

The most important thing is stability which we currently have.

Then a gradual appreciation of Naira, probably over a period of 2 to 4 years.

Do not chase a moving train or try to catch a falling knife.

Some of us have made the mistake in the past and we hope that you newbie learn from history rather than experience.

In the other news: why is it difficult to deposit money into Atlas through their sterling account?

Any alternative pls?

I am looking at getting Tantaliser, Tip and Cutis and more of VFD......any thoughts on this? I can hold for another 2years.

I know it is overpriced. I don't have the stock but I don't think the intrinsic value should be more than N500

I know you as an apostle of ROE(return on equity). Geregu has excellent return on equity.

GEREGU has a ROE of about 39% at H1 2025 and the dividend is nothing to write home about.

I still hold the view that before an investor buys the stocks of any company he or she should compare the market capitalization to current shareholders' equity in order not to over pay for it. cool

In conclusion,an intelligent investor should never over pay for an investment.

Based on the Return on Equity and expected earning growth the Price Book Value should not be more than 5, but the Price Book Value should be close to 15.

It is a wonderful stock but the price does not make sense, Transcorp Power is cheaper

The most important thing is stability. Not going above N1500 again in the next 5 years will be good. Staying below N1500 in the next 10 years will be excellent. Dropping to N1000 looks unlikely but not impossible.

I use Sterling for deposit seamlessly.

You need to include your account number in the narration (or if you send an email).

With the forex Dangote Refinery is minting from exportation, BUA refinery is also coming up very soon.

I foresee a situation whereby the crude we export will reduce drastically, that we will start refining more of the crude, adding value to the raw materials and getting more value for the products

The market price can be 10 times or more of the shareholders fund and still be underpriced.

It depends on the Return on Equity, future earning growth rate, the spread between the Return on Invested Capital and the required return .

Another stock can sell below the book value per share but overpriced

It makes sense to not distribute tranche 3-6 but to sell it to a new investor and use the money to pay off debts and speedup business turnaround. I have always said this is the better option for current investors.
They should sell shareholders compensation (redistributed shares) to which new investors again when there is already AGM approval to raise additional capital?
The AGM approved that the shares be redistributed to shareholders. If they want to sell to new investors, then there will be another AGM to authorize the sale and the price must be disclosed. And that will create more confusion.
Shareholders have invested and tied down their capital for long without dividends so they need something as compensation.

courage89:
While a lot of us are focusing on the very high capital gain tax, this can actually be a blessing in disguise for NGX. I see the steep capital gain tax as a risk mitigation to help reduce capital flight in the face of economic stagnation, recession, sanctions and protect the long term stability and growth of NGX.

Most times, we’ve been made to believe capital flight that paralyze and damage Nigerian capital market are caused by political uncertainty, corruption, macroeconomic instability including: currency depreciation, high inflation, external debt, high interest rate and others…While these rationale are very valid, they are not the major reasons.

Other reasons that can trigger sudden capital flight includes: sanctions by foreign governments, statements from big corporations or financial institutions and others. These triggers can happen at any time, due to no fault of the government. Speculative attacks from these capital flight will end up having catastrophic consequences on Nigerian economy.

Example of this was in 2015, when JP Morgan removed Nigeria from its index bond. This sudden exclusion triggered significant capital outflows, with foreign investors selling their Nigerian bonds, stocks and other assets. Leading to decline in stock market, devaluation of naira, higher interest rates, job losses and other economic problems. Let’s assume we had this CGT at the time, could this have prevented the speculative bubble of the 2015?

The long term stability and growth of NGX should be the most important factors. Any policy/ policies to strengthen this stability and growth should supersede short term gains of all investors.

I am not holding any as I post but with what I am seeing since with q3 results.
It is going to happen starting with all my bank stock. I will not pull out the fund from ngx
I will use the cash to buy more of defensive stocks only.
Defensive stocks here are sound stocks with high price which to get 100k to move it down will take extra monetary strength till I know whr this government wan carry ngx go
