It seems there is ''something'' pulling Oando down and preventing it from gaining 8%-10%. Almost 32m units sold and it is not making 5% gain yet. |

mikeapollo:The same thing pulling other stocks. Many stocks ought to be on good bids and price appreciation. |

abuhusna1:Thanks. Quick question. If it is starting in 2026, do you know which price will be used as benchmark? E.g. If my OandO shares were bought in 2021 and they are on 700% appreciation to date, will they calculate the CGT on the 700% appreciation? Will the calculation starts with the price on 01/01/2026 as benchmark? I will like to know. If they won't, then it is better for one to sell everything to zerorise the gains of many years back. This is very important, I will appreciate if all the professors in the house can assist in clarifying this. |

The right thing would have been to make prices on January 1, 2026 the starting/effective price for the tax calculation. Making the law retrospective does not make any sense at all. mikeapollo: |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by mikeapollo: 1:55pm On Oct 31, 2025 |
ghm:According to what the tax man (Taiwo Oyedele) said, they would use the price at which you bought the shares in the past as the ''cost price''. So even if you bought Oando in year 2000 at N1, they will deduct the N1 from the selling price (e.g. N50 in 2026)and then calculate 30% on the gain of N49. Hence, they have ignored inflation, currency purchasing parity. devaluation etc He said even though it sounds punitive and unfair, that is what the law says, and if the law is to be implemented, that is how it would be done. |

ghm:You people should stop worrying about CGT, a law is not retrospective. If only our government will not loot the tax income it could have helped to improve our systems. Anyway I am planning to take position in the serious market correction it may trigger, either way bull or bear I am ready. NAHCO fell today after a good result and I took some, but should be profit takers. |
