I think the apprehension about the CGT is the fact that the new law becomes restrospectively effective from the date of inaugurating the NGX. That can only be described as cruel and could even be illegal. ololufemi: |

awesomeJ:But farmers are bleeding |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by mikeapollo: 11:06am On Nov 06, 2025 |
GeeKudi:It is not only because of the retrospective application, which Taiwo Oyedele himself agrees to be unfair, unreasonable, punitive and insensitive. It is also because they have increased the pre-existing CGT rate for companies from 10% to 30%; and then introduced PAYE tax rate on gains made by individuals, which may be as high as 24%. How does a a struggling investor risk his/her life savings to make N200m and then give govt N48m? |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 11:08am On Nov 06, 2025 |
Itzlinda:Maybe the bleeding is not absolute. If someone went into maize production with the expectation to sell at N100m per tonne, but the current price crash has turned his proceeds to N60m per tonne, of course he'll complain about the "lost" N40m, even if he cost didn't exceed N30m per ton. I don't have practical experience to tell the exact situation, but I think Payusin is a poultry farmer here that seems to be enjoying more profits even though I pay slightly less for chicken and eggs now. |

Payunsin:Just follow the market and monitor the prices. Access Bank seems underpriced right now, but you have to be very patient for the long term. |

Agbalowomeri:I don't know why dangota cement no see 100k units make the thing lose straight 10% for 2 days or more..It is obvious now that is what the ASI is all about and not reality about the general market |

mikeapollo:Mikeapollo, be far na, how can you say that an investor with 200m portfolio is a struggling investor? Even with my about 150m, which was only possible because I sold a piece of landed property, I consider myself rich. In fact, I'm a multi-millionaire. If you feel that you're a struggling investor with 200m, when then are you going to enjoy your life? With my present portfolio, even the dividends alone is enough for me to live like a king. I give the glory to God Almighty. |

awesomeJ:No one woud have complained if what you painted is the actual scenario. I have a rice farm and was very lucky to be at break even after harvest. Many farmers counted significant lost. The cost of production stay elevated while the produce cost dropped by up to 70% in some instances. The bulk of production cost in farming is labour and fertiliser cost. Surprisingly, while inflation has cooled off in many of the sectors, fertiliser prices are going up as at the middle of this year. The fertiliser I bought 42,000 early January went as high as 70,000 during the last rainy season. So the farmers were are beaten from both front. Many rice mills have closed shop because it is no longer profitable. No thsnks to the food importation allowed by the government |

Toluway: ![]() Remember N200m is not up to $150,000 any more ooo. If you buy one house (a 4 bedroom flat bungalow or duplex) from the N200m or N150m, how much would remain assuming you decide to retire? Remember that some people also borrowed to invest and they have to repay the loan from the gains. We thank God for his mercies; N200m may sound huge but the actual value has dropped. |

Heishere:What was his concern? I am saying the rates are nothing new. We have always had 7 to 9% rates for Eurobonds even when they were not as oversubscribed. No one was expecting the rates to be lower than 8% in the first place so it hardly matters here. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Shalom428: 12:28pm On Nov 06, 2025 |
mikeapollo:N200M in any part of the world is a decent amount. With that amount, you are richer than 90% of the world populace. 200M in good dividend paying companies in NGX is RICH. We should stop the act of dollarizing everything. Nigerians settle their local obligations in Naira. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 12:33pm On Nov 06, 2025 |
Itzlinda:sorry about your experience. The context you gave still isn't complete though? like when you buy a fertilizer for N70,000, how many hectares is it expected to cover, or better still, when you farm 100 hectares of rice, 1. what quantity of fertilizer is required 2. what's the expected labour and seedling cost 3. what's the expected yield in terms of tons of rice paddy With these context, it's easier to see the real picture. I don't contest your context o, I'm just saying it'll be better if it's expanded. |

mikeapollo:Are we not talking about 200m because naira value is seriously decimated? I assume that someone with a hundred million and above surely have a house, a car for himself and another car for his wive. If not, what is the essence of having all the millions in your account? |

Streetinvestor2:What is the percentage of people that have 200M in the world ? Let's start from there . If you are debt - free and you have 200M in NGX , you are RICH by the World Standard. The essence of living is to satisfy one's basic needs and have some bars left to enjoy life. No be everybody wan buy Yacht or Private Jet. The lack of contentment is what make a lot die in this rat race Make nobody pressure anybody. |

chimex38:EV is the way to go. China is making it possible by making them affordable. In fact in the last 5 years Chinese EV related vehicles have taken serious market share from major car brands globally. There is enough power from the Sun to power EV’s in Nigeria. And harvesting/storing the energy is getting more and more affordable, thanks to China. All this makes me bearish on Aradel et al when thinking of medium to long term investments. |
