From Pawn To Queen: My Lesson As A Chess Player. by Nobody: 9:15pm On Nov 10, 2025
Imagine a chessboard, where pieces are born with different roles. Some are pawns, humble and often overlooked. Others are kings, queens, or rooks – powerful and commanding. But here's the twist: on this board of life, the game isn't just about the piece you start as; it's about the moves you make.

Mother Nature, in her vast and curious way, creates some people who start in positions of strength (handsome, rich, powerful etc— and we can even mention their names)
Others begin as pawns – average looking, average height, unassuming, perhaps even disadvantaged. And Mother Nature looks at these pawns with a hint of intrigue, almost a challenge. She wonders: will this pawn attain greater heights in the game of life? Or will it remain mediocre, stuck in its square, struggling to make a mark... hoping to die average?

The intriguing part? The outcome isn't predetermined. Some pawns stay stuck, content with their squares, playing it safe. They blend into the pattern, and when the game ends, they're forgotten as average, they die as average.

But other pawns see beyond their starting spot. They strategize, push boundaries, and defy the limitations of their position. They move forward, sometimes sideways, often against the odds. And they transform. A pawn that reaches the other side doesn't just stay a pawn – it becomes a Queen, wielding power, influence, and possibility. And in extraordinary cases, with the right moves, it might even checkmate the king.

The point isn't about the starting position; it's about the decision to move. Some people are born into circumstances that feel like disadvantages – and they stay there, trapped in a narrative of "I was made average." Others are made average, look around, and decide greatness isn't about birth, but about choice.

If a man lives like an average pawn, he'll die like an average pawn – unremarked, unremembered. But if he decides to improve, push limits, and play differently, he'll transcend. He'll go from being a pawn to being a force – maybe not always a queen, but certainly more than he started.

Mother Nature doesn't dictate the endgame; our moves do. She poses the challenge – the rest is up to the pawn. The chessboard of life is full of possibilities. Where will you move? Will you stay average, or will you rise?

It needs illustrating, I think.

It's all a game, in every game there are limitless possibilities. Although, all probable outcomes seems to be predetermined.

That’s actually a chessboard but I also play scrabble. The board game I’m not really into is monopoly.

Deep write-up. I love how u used the chessboard to explain life.
But personally, I see it beyond the pawn turning to a queen. I see it more as each piece fulfilling purpose.

I’ve played games where a pawn that barely moved ended up being the reason I won.
That showed me something, it’s not every pawn that must become a queen to be valuable.
Some are simply positioned for moments that change the game entirely.

In life too, not everyone will rise to fame or power, but everyone has a role that carries purpose. What matters most is knowing why u’re on the board and making every move count. When u live with that awareness, u’ve already won, no matter ur rank.

Nice POV! I thought of it that way too. I didn't want to make Mother Nature look unfair, though 😂 (for those seeking justification for staying average). The truth is, some pawns aren't just meant to be queens – some are destined to stay pawn. But the real tragedy is staying stuck, never finding your purpose, never moving and just waiting to die as a pawn.

With AI I think the sincerity and honesty of anything online keeps getting blurred.

For better or for worse, only time will tell.

Apt!

However his point is that if you can; wouldn't you prefer to be that pawn that turns to a queen?

Would you rather serve your noble role and let others live the glory?

Would you just be part of the Facebook story and allow the mark zuckerbergs of this life take all the glory?

Of course everyone would love to become the queen if the move leads there, no doubt.
But not every journey is about glory, some are about impact.
Even the pawn that clears the way for the queen has fulfilled purpose.

So yes, if I can rise, I’ll rise. But I won’t measure success only by visibility. Some wins happen quietly, yet they shift destinies.

In addition, moving from pawn to queen requires a lot of battles and manoeuvres, so be ready to fight.
Glory doesn’t come easy.

Nice points grin
It’s better to keep moving than expect Mother Nature to laugh at you at the end because you didn’t achieve your full potential.

Very true. Impacts also matters when it comes to destiny but since we aren’t told what we are going to be, it’s better we keep trying.

The term ‘get rich or die trying’ resonates here. But in this context it isn’t bout getting rich, but about destiny and purpose.
