Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Sunrisepebble: 1:05pm On Nov 11, 2025
It’s CGT. Foreign investors are not selling off any holdings, and they make up less than 20% of the market. It’s nothing else but the CGT

Don't be pessimistic. No harm in trying.

I think petition won't really change nothing. When the billionaires (dangote and co) fortune index dropped by significant margin because of the drop in the price of their holdings, I think that's why federal govt will act. Or when companies starts firing people because there's no liquidity in the companies.

You think Tony will be happy wit what is happening to his companies .look at uba after Ri of #50 which he believes is undervalued. U have pushed it below #40 because of yeye policy. How many company has that tax guy built .Is it to come practice some rubbish he read from book because he is hoping to collect heavy commission for collections

It is not the Country of Particular Concern (CPC). CPC would only affect mostly new or potential investors coming into the country
Investors already playing in the NGX (foreign and local) would not mind if it is only about CPC.

We like fire fighting not preventing.

awesomeJ:
As long as we achieve the desired goal, even if na to presidency. Having a targeted action is what might work.

Buy I still feel NGX and the likes could have done much better to raise investors' concern while the laws were being drafted.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by sophy17(m):
A lot of people have been complaining about the NTA 2025 especially the CGT and now people in that space are reacting by mass sell off and yet someone still thinks the complaints have no impact.

When a government feels he can do whatever pleases it, the people too will show the government they also have a choice on what to do even if it is at loss. Nonsense!

So many issues are discussed on NL, in different sections and on various topics.
Policy makers and people in govt source public opinion from various platforms, especially in this era of social media. It is not only by petition.
Whether they are aware of what people say here or not, it is only for them to say, and not for any one of us on NL.
No one should be more Catholic than the Pope
You're right sir.

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 1:34pm On Nov 11, 2025
Bro, it's the CGT. Trump's CPC is not responsible for the red paint on the floor of the ngx. It is the CGT.

Don't stress the poor guy. This law had a round of public hearings and nobody said anything...everyone was just spazzing out over VAT rate. The nigerian chambers of trade and commerce and all the association of brokers and other making noise now kept quiet because stocks were pumping. Make una leave Taiwo alone and carry una cross.

Very few bills had as much attention as this New Tax bill did before being passed, it was debated to death on the floor and they were multiple media rounds. You could have even questioned Taiwo on twitter...but it seemed the important sections just went over everybody's head. Better pay your 25% CGT or put your money in Nvidia. Petition ko, rendition ni.

No, the red started after Taiwo Oyedele had a call with local and international investors, which was organized by Standard Chartered Bank where the foreign investors expressed their frustration with the CGT. The meeting held about 2 weeks ago and the red started a few days after that. Tump was just an inconsequential coincidence.
https://nairametrics.com/2025/10/22/international-investors-are-frustrated-with-taiwo-oyedele-reports/

The same Taiwo a few days later, dismissed the concerns of both local and international investors

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 1:39pm On Nov 11, 2025
Suspending the CGT will cause an unprecedented uproar that can potentially rubbish the whole NTA 2025. Only a small priviledged fraction of Nigerians are in the Capital Market. The right thing to do is to rescind the retrospective application of the CGT and possibly just retain the existing 10% CGT but with rigorous implementation.

They will soon get tired. Nobody can defend against this raging red unless there is a favorable statement from the government on the CGT implementation. The road is still a very long one.

You know the south always feel dey go school and no send. The VAT that made news was because the north kicked about it.So nobody raised a finger on serious issues. The remaining things in that bill no go affect north. Na u wan go collect the tax in all those states that ak47 is now pure water. The northerners no dey pay tax before unless the ones taken from source. If u be from south and working in North go collect tax.Na only all those local government levies we been dey pay for north if u no sabi person for lga
