Don't stress the poor guy. This law had a round of public hearings and nobody said anything...everyone was just spazzing out over VAT rate. The nigerian chambers of trade and commerce and all the association of brokers and other making noise now kept quiet because stocks were pumping. Make una leave Taiwo alone and carry una cross.
The guy himself deserves all the stress because he has been insensitive to issues raised about the public and investors

The attention was more on PAYE and the VAT rate (7.5% vs 15%) and the sharing formular amongst States. So immediately after the politicians agreed on the VAT, the bill was more or less rushed for approval with minimal scrutiny of other areas.
But I agree that the NGX/SEC, and industry players should have mobilized for a strong advocacy against the CGT. Or maybe they thought it would not be implemented, just like in Finance Act 2021

Suspending the CGT will cause an unprecedented uproar that can potentially rubbish the whole NTA 2025. Only a small priviledged fraction of Nigerians are in the Capital Market. The right thing to do is to rescind the retrospective application of the CGT and possibly just retain the existing 10% CGT but with rigorous implementation.
All that is required is for them not to implement that aspect of the law, simple. They don't need to make any announcement of suspension or whatever.
Finance Act 2021 had CGT 10% which was never implemented, and there was no uproar anywhere.

This is called rapid progression

Maybe we will get full offers in the banks at some point this week

They may still push the price to a favourable range for the public offer to look attractive
Can swing both ways.
Those selling are targeting RI at 7.
Price from ₦7 to ₦10 is a 42% upside.
Even @ ₦9 it's about 30% upside.
meaning some won't also mind selling at 9 either.

It's a demand and supply tuzzle between PO and RI.

I think nothing short of a clear announcement will stem this tide.

Na CPC dey cause bear not CGT
If it was CPC, the capitulation supposed to happened on the next day after the tweet, not today. Today is the biggest sell off I have seen this year.

Trump has not Tweet anything again this week. People thought there will be pump to exit on because of the q3 result. Market realised that is already priced, so everyone exiting to avoid january cgt tax
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Mpeace(m): 1:58pm On Nov 11, 2025
If they don't reverse that Draconian capital gains tax on stocks, we have no option than to sell and invest somewhere else.
It's very unfortunate that we have such a government.
I go pack my Kaya till January. I no fit do business government carry 30% of my profit, then then collect 10% of my dividend.

I just found Taiwo Oyedele's email and phone number on his Instagram page:
enquiries@fiscalreforms.ng or WhatsApp: 08109753151
That guy won’t listen to you. He can see what is happening. He and his committee members of about 15 people were paid about 4.8b naira for this tax review job.

The NGX reaction of mass sell off is the loudest message. Even up till now, despite passing the law some months ago they don’t have any tangible framework or structure in place for implementation.

The government will have no choice but to learn the hard way

How can you equate a loss making company to ACCESSCORP? cool
Amazon posted losses for 10 years before reporting a full year profit.
A Kpakus analyst like you would have missed the great investment. cool

Govt. can just say that the exact commencement date has not been decided yet. i.e. it would not start on Jan 1, 2026.

Isn't it better to target the rights issue to better cushion the effect of the CGT in case you bought at significantly lower prices.

The effect of the CGT is really ravaging the market. The market has almost become like the coliseum during the gladiator games with blood being spilled almost everywhere.

Chai!

My brother, me sef I shock o as it has not been activated. However, don't be surprised if many smart money people are just mopping up what they can lay their hands on at this moment. The lower the prices go, the higher the potential dividend yields and potential race to the top for the stocks as well.

It is well. 🙏🏽

The market will have to bounce back up from tomorrow. It usually does after such a sharp one day fall. Otherwise we are in for a long one.

What volume do you think is exiting NGX? Go check, it is not heavy

The red started just after Trump pronouncement. We have had the CGT memo the entire year so while now and not December?
Ohh ..Trump statement only instigated and worsened it so you expect people to wait till December when it will be hard to japa ..who you want sell for by then when everyone will be panicking as against January..it's better to exit now before Dec and that what most investors are doing.

You why ddnt you wait till Dec..and why japa earlier? so others are feeling now..it's better now than when it's too late
