Olaide1295:Thanks for sharing. Guys please go through. They've decided to do one of the major things people here have been advocating for: Cost base will be the closing price on December 31st 2025 if your actual cost base is lower. That's bullish. Cos all we have to do is push GTCO to #150 by December 31st. Whoever doesn't buy this week will likely likely likely buy higher. |

essentialone:@essentialone when you buy or sell stocks you don't pay commission on the outcome rather you pay for the process. Tax is paid on the outcome of the business process. So once the process is completed you pay irrespective of the outcome. Moreover the charges you pay belongs to different entity involved in the process - Sec, sms, VAT, CSCS etc. Again, the decision to sell at a loss is solely yours as an investor or trader nobody is to bear the consequences of your decision. You could decide to make your loss to remain paper loss or you pay for the process of making it a real loss which could actually mean gain if you feel your loss could be more if you keep the stock. Let the brokers breathe ![]() |

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 8:13pm On Nov 11, 2025 |
essentialone:Previously if you have GTCO in your portfolio that you bought for N10 per share, if you sell next year at N100 per share, they wanted to use N10 as your cost base and tax you on N90 profit. That could be N90m if you hold 1m units. Now Taiwo Oyedele has said that the new cost base will be anyone you prefer between the N10 you purchased at and the closing price on December 31st. So if we move GTCO to #150 by December 31st, and you sell at N100 next year, then you pay no CGT, infact na the government owe you tax credit. |

jonnysessy:Much pressure on Finance ministry from different quarters... Wrong timing for their CGT palaver.... They want to grow Trillion economy and bringing anti-progress measure, how will that work? Meanwhile on Trump matter, FG is in discussions with USA at the moment.. https://dailypost.ng/2025/11/11/trumps-threat-were-in-talks-with-us-nigerian-govt/ |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Agbalowomeri: 8:15pm On Nov 11, 2025 |
awesomeJ:Lol that is counterintuitive They will still use your cost price |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 8:19pm On Nov 11, 2025 |
Agbalowomeri:How? ?? Everyone has been asking for a reference price of Jan 1st, they finally granted it, what else? By the way, he also confirmed that CGT is to be received by STATES! I think I will relocate to my village, there's a higher chance of successfully confusing the tax people there with the complex maths in my trades 😁😁😁 |

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by stokfrick: 8:27pm On Nov 11, 2025 |
Yoursfaithful:The pressure being mounted on them should be channeled towards reducing the retrogressive CGT to max of 10 %. They should look for other innovative ways of raising funds. Even the 800k limit on PIT needs to be reviewed in the light of present realities facing families. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 8:33pm On Nov 11, 2025 |
stokfrick:10% is worse if - you trade less than 150m per year and make less than 10m in gains (they currently pay 0%) -you do heavy buy/sell (you shouldn't pay more than 5% under the current laws) These already cover over 95% of people. Those who might benefit from the 10% are in a very tiny minority. As a matter of fact, with this new December 31st rule, they've effectively suspended CGT for everyone on all existing gains! The only CGT you will pay is on any new gains from 2026. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 8:36pm On Nov 11, 2025 |
If the market prices in this December 31st rule , we might have already bottomed. My new support for ASI is 140k! |

The 5% crash seems to break circuit at Taiwo's team, it's good he put out that tweet. Once the December 31st starts hitting headlines, market should start moving back up tomorrow. |

It’s an awesome news to hear. For me, it’s the most important aspect of the CGT. The market will likely start reacting before the end of this week. awesomeJ: |

It's not a bad word. It's just a proxy for young eyeballs engaged in the digital era. I bet there's a correlation between porn viewership and future explosive growth in the digital economy. PhD thesis for a curious economist. Agbalowomeri: |

There is blood in the market, this week bearish move is incredible, as people are afraid, now is probably the time to load up if Wale Edun and his team come through with their downward review promise of the dreaded CGT. Hopefully things will pick up |

awesomeJ:When it comes to taxing: we here people trying to imitate global practice and blah blah blah but when it comes to tackling corruption, we are far away from global practice. This is neither about Tax or Corruption; This is about TRUST (T-bills and short term investment didnt wait till 31st of December) |

Let's even say the "reset" happens and the "cost base" becomes the higher of your purchase price and 31st December, 2025. That's only one part of the problem plus the "reset" is a one-off event. My major concern is the 25%-30% CGT. It's too much. Also, in my opinion the 150m and 10m criteria are not much. They should be increased to 500m and 50m🚶🚶 |
