You mean the same rubber stamp senate? Tell me 1 single thing that this current senate has disagreed with the present govt on. Except those that have to do with their own personal interest like budget line items for their "constituency projects"
Some of them are equally invested heavily in the market to hide thr loot. They will show concern. Na them get money pass for ngx if u don't know directly or indirect

grin grin To be honest, I never reach the 150m tax bracket but I foresee reaching there in the near future. So na my future I dey fight for like this angry. "... total gain do not exceed #10m..." . 10% of 150m has already exceeded 10m. I might as well just put that money in fixed deposit at 20% and sleep easy. The more I think about it, the angrier I get
I get you though.
It's same for us all.
No one wants to pay what may be of no benefit. Plus the huge tax percentage under a small profit and volume bracket especially given present devaluation and inflation effect.
They should reduce or postpone it.

@awesomeJ was right.
This helps to buttress the interpretation further.

"For example, if an investor acquired shares at N5 and the value appreciates to N20 by December 31, 2025, the tax authority will treat N20 as the cost base going forward.

If the shares are later sold in 2026 for N25, only the N5 gain realised after the reset date will be subject to CGT. The N15 gain earned before the new law takes effect will not be taxed."

https://nairametrics.com/2025/11/12/capital-gains-tax-oyedele-clarifies-past-gains-wont-be-taxed-under-new-law/#google_vignette

They will have to amend the law if it's included.
Anyway, they have the whole 2026 to do that.

You see, this is damage control and an after-thought, after the public made them see the folly and shallow thinking in the law..
This is nothing but a trial and error govt just searching desperately for where/how to extort investors.
Their poorly articulated law has already caused several stock prices to fall drastically below cost price for many investors

Where would you find Oyedele bull? Someone killing the market with poorly-thought out law just for revenue that will be mismanaged and looted by the people that appointed him.

Previously if you have GTCO in your portfolio that you bought for N10 per share, if you sell next year at N100 per share, they wanted to use N10 as your cost base and tax you on N90 profit. That could be N90m if you hold 1m units.

Now Taiwo Oyedele has said that the new cost base will be anyone you prefer between the N10 you purchased at and the closing price on December 31st.

So if we move GTCO to #150 by December 31st, and you sell at N100 next year, then you pay no CGT, infact na the government owe you tax credit.
This CGT has already affected the market such way that stock prices would struggle to peak by Dec31 because many investors are pulling out their money to buy fixed income securities. Therefore the new base for cost price may not be significantly different from what we have now.

Meanwhile if I do JIJO and make loss. FG wont be willing to bear the BRUNT with me

NOW TELL ME WHO IS FOOLING WHO huh

Is it not better i carry my KAYA go start crayfish business for Oron grin grin grin
We MADE this POST on 24th Septembe 2025 when we started packing our KAYA .

Someone said it's only JiJiosts that CGT will affect and not long term Shareholders... I laughed at his ignorance grin grin grin

As a patriotic Nigerian that he claim to be is it not better for the Nigeria STOCK MARKET to crash like we witness in 2007 for world see how bad TINUBU govt is

Instead he is all over the place ranting for GCT that would favor long term shareholders to be put on hold

The bitter truth is that CGT has come to stay and we shouldn't forget that STOCK MARKET is an information driven market

BARGAIN HUNTERS TAKE NOTE!

Even if you're right about what prices will be by year end, it still doesn't change the fact that there's a huge relief for long term investors now.

Imagine someone who bought 1m units of OKOMUOIL for N60m during COVID.

Even if the stock stays at 1k by year end, he's now relieved that his N940m gains are completely tax free.

Yesterday he still had the fear that govt would take 25% from it, today, he can rest assured.

Taiwo Oyedele provides some clarity.
That Taiwo Oyedele has nothing reasonable to say. He was the person that dismissed the concerns of international and local investors about the CGT as few days ago. He even published a lengthy write-up to say that the CGT would not have any effect on the market.
He is working for the money he was paid for the tax law job, he does not care about the interest of investors

Thanks for sharing.
Guys please go through.

They've decided to do one of the major things people here have been advocating for:

Cost base will be the closing price on December 31st 2025 if your actual cost base is lower.

That's bullish. Cos all we have to do is push GTCO to #150 by December 31st.

Whoever doesn't buy this week will likely likely likely buy higher.
Investors have to provide liquidity and bid/buy before it can be bullish in any way.
If Investors pull out their funds due the uncertainty this law has created, prices may go down further or may not rise as expected.
This is how not to run a capital market.

The stock market requires clear policy guidelines and certainty, not the knee-jerk announcements, whims and caprices of people at helm of affairs.
This is clear evidence that they did not do proper stakeholder consultation before they manipulated the NASS to approve the new tax law. which huge tax implications on the people. Executive recklessness!

Oga Emma I am still not believing you until you school us on what have changed in Kpakus (lol).
Are you seeing upside should the acquisition be successful? because even me I know that any day Ellah declares ordinary 500m profit the share price will go hay wire and that day is closer than ever should they succeed with the acquisition.
On the other hand, given the current market situation any underwriter will be seriously afraid.
But I thought the current owners of ARPN will just acquire shares of ELLAHLAKES to complete the acquisition which should have been a better option for existing shareholders because I think Chuka needs more aggressive directors who will bring more ideas and also keep him on his toes to deliver value to all investors instead.
Unfortunately the offer is not going to be underwritten.

Raising almost N250 billion will require a miracle

Don't be too quick to conclude ..I dnt trust this govt ..what makes you feel the #15.00 gain will be tax free what changes..dnt forget we have a current policy of 10% CGT of which the only problem was implementation which is still effective not until 31st December 2025.so what if they decide to apply that together with the one to be effective 1st Jan 2026..automatically 10% on gains before Dec 31st 2025 and 30% on gains after 1st Jan 2026.

Hmmm

Investors do not like too many uncertainties

CPC designation
Trump's invasion threat

And now CGT all happening same time

This is the result, massive panic selling

It is not Trump's invasion nor CPC designation.
What is happening is solely CGT-induced disaster in the stock market..

You are very correct. It is situation like this we know men with lion heart. In a few minutes from now again, the market opens again and we watch how it goes. Whether there will be a little reprieve because of some media print from Government which has not really said anything categorical or whether it will slump further. We watch with keen interest. shocked

The most important part of the CGt has been addressed. U can beat or minimise the 25% using many methods available now in the law.Even if they reduce it it will still be in the range of 15-20%.For me nothing concern me again with CGT as can beat it comfortably
