Eruku CAC Resumes Service After Deadly Terrorist Attack That Claimed Lives and Led to 38 Abductions

Members of the CAC Church in Eruku, Kwara State, have courageously returned to worship this morning, just days after the deadly terrorist attack of 18/11/2025 that left the entire community in mourning.

The attack, which occurred during an evening service that was being livestreamed, threw the congregation into chaos as gunmen stormed the church. Worshippers fled in panic, with many scattering in different directions and hiding in nearby bushes to escape the gunfire. The distressing moment was captured on video, showing terrified members running for safety as shots rang out.

In the aftermath of the incident, at least 38 church members were abducted, while several others were tragically killed. One of the most heartbreaking scenes from the earlier reports showed a female member crying uncontrollably, saying she had not seen her child since the attack. Her emotional plea highlighted the scale of the tragedy and the fear gripping the community.

Despite the pain, fear, and the ongoing search for abducted members, the church resumed service this morning—an act many residents describe as a powerful show of faith and resilience. Worshippers gathered quietly, some still visibly shaken, as prayers were offered for the safe return of those abducted and for healing in the community.

Residents say security presence has slightly increased around the area, but many are still calling for urgent and sustained intervention from the government and security agencies to prevent further attacks and to rescue the missing victims.

For Eruku, today’s service represents not just a religious gathering, but a symbol of hope, strength, and the determination of a community refusing to be silenced by terror.

Reopening the church immediately after the bandit attack doesn’t make much sense without proper security measures. Faith is important, but protecting the lives of members is even more important.

if they like they can attack with posters and fliers
When Muslim bandits want to attack they shout alahu akbar and start shooting but the Christian’s will only shout the name of Jesus and be expecting miracles,if they can’t buy guns like the terrorists, can’t they build bunkers too for their protection?

God bless the people of God.The gate of hell will never prevail over the Church of Christ.

Romans 8:35-39 KJV
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or unclothedness, or peril, or sword? [36] As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. [37] Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. [38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

It is regrettable that there is no visible presence of the Police, Civil Defense, or other security agencies to protect this great and wonderful congregation.

The congregation's refusal to be intimidated or cowed by the enemies and their return to the Church is a testament to their faith.

The Nigeria Police Force must improve its efforts, especially by providing a visible presence during the first service or throughout the coming weeks. This is critical, considering that less than two weeks ago, Islamic terrorists and bandits attacked an evening service, resulting in the murder of approximately five people and the kidnapping of around 38 others.

It’s heartbreaking that a place of worship had to go through something that traumatic, but it’s good to see the community trying to resume normal service after everything they faced. Still, 38 people abducted is not something anyone should just “move on” from.

Security forces really need to step up their presence in that axis because these attacks keep repeating. I hope the abducted victims are found and the community gets some real protection going forward.

This church won't be the same for sometime. The trauma members are going to feel anytime they step into the church environment won't erase quickly. To think that not even one single terrorist was arrested for this horrible act is very shameful.
