I know somebody will start an argument over this issue.

If you ignore = nothing will happen

If you renounce and trade your rights, your Right Shares will be transferred to the broker for Trading.

Note: I have been paid for most of my Right Issues traded on the Exchange.

Has the stock market been closed all week?

My portfolio is literally stagnant
I wrote this a few days ago and everyone laughed. You can’t tell me that there are no changes in over 2 weeks.. no increase or decrease. Sent a message to Morgan Capital today and didn’t get a response all through the day

Indeed. The following statement if true will mean that it is individual transactions of value >150m and profit>10m, and not aggregate that can be taxed.

"The law also exempts smaller transactions; disposals under N150 million with gains below N10 million..."

I sold my one of my shares on November 20th 2025, but uptil today the funds hasn't reflected in my trading account neither has it drop in my bank account..
I have sent mails to meristem concerning the issue 3 days ago,, but no reply or feedback from them..
What else should I do?
Contact your relationship officer, they were doing a systems upgrade, you can also chat them up real time.

Also, when people say they want to sell their rights, it gets me wondering. The rights issue is an offer, which, to be able to sell it, you have to first buy it. Is it possible to sell it if one hasnt bought it? It's not like a bonus share which will just land on your CSCS.

If people can get paid for trading their rights, then it's counterintuitive for someone to actually buy it in the first place. Investors would just trade it and then buy from the floor.

I no just understand o grin

I ignore all the rights issues because most of them are more expensive than SP at the times.

Just like you don't need to buy dividends once you qualify for it, you don't need to buy rights too, you earn it on qualification date. The rights itself is an instrument allowing you purchase shares at a certain price (typically a discounted price). so what you're buying is the shares, the rights are automatically earned on qualification date, and hence sellable.

Also based on the terms agreed at the company's meeting where such rights are approved, those who don't take those rights automaticatically forfeit them, no unclaimed rights as with dividends. the terms often allow for such rights to be taken up by other members of the company.

That's my problem. Since most of them issued are more expensive than the current prices, I chose not to take them up.

But does that right to buy at that price also afford me right to sell it? If yes, is the proceed supposed to be credited to me?

What they are selling/trading is the "right to own the shares" and not the shares themselves, they already own the "right" and that is why they can sell it.

The right to buy is the instrument itself, and that's what you can sell - that right to buy.

The right to sell doesn't yet exist in this market as far as I know.

If you do sell your rights (to buy), say you had 12,000 units on presco on qualification date, you would have rights to 2000 shares, if you sell those at N5 per share, you would get N10,000 in proceeds save any fees. the buyer of such rights would then have the rights to buy 2000 units of presco at 1420 regardless of the market price.

I see grin

It's funny.

The buyer of this 'right' should buy from the market instead. I mean, that's what I would do.

I think the rights issues would make sense if the price is reasonably lower than the market price.

The ''market'', in this instance, are the individual owners of the rights, hence they have to sell the ''rights'' to those willing to buy from them.

I find it funny too.
Someone bought presco's rights at 1420 and was even asking how (s)he could buy more, at a time i was buying the shares at 1360 with instant access to the shares.

people always have their reasons.

For large holders for instnace, Rights give them the opprotunity to buy huge volumes without spiking up the share price as would have been the case if they had to acquire such volumes off the trading floor.

For retail holders though, I think it's mostly the bragging right of saying they took their rights, sort of massages the ego.

Otherwise, why pay unnecessary premiums?

I think the guy just doesn't see any reason why someone should go and pay to buy a right to own the share of a company when the same is available at a cheaper price on the exchange.
I equally share the same sentiment.
