98% of what I have are already invested in asset and money making ventures especially agriculture sector. My account balance now is way below 20k.

I don't hold liquid cash at all I reinvest even 10k. Am even looking for loan now in other to grab some opportunities.

Visited this thread first over 6 years ago, I was motivated, inspired and I closed nairaland.

I worked hard... Tried saving.
Left nairaland
Quit my job... Started business.
Closed my shop... Tried saving
Got married... Lived comfortable
Had my child... Business drought
Returned to nairaland

But still I've not seen my first one million.

What business do in venture into like this Abi I need deliverance.

Hahahahaha. you got job, you got shop, you saved and yet never making upto a million naira even with the whole devaluation. This sounds comical.

You won't understand...

No doubt my expense has been in millions... But I have not looked at my account and see 1 million naira without house rent, and some kind bills claiming a stake to that money.

Amazingly, I don't do many extracurriculars that drain money.

Life will never give you what is enough, enough to get you were you ought to be. You need 100 bucks but all you get is 30 Bucks, mate you have got to learn how to survive with the 30 Bucks and still making sure a part of the money is invested into your growth. At the early stages in our life, we will have to make sacrifices, delaying gratification, living like monks, not doing certain things our peers are already doing (marriage, having children etc.) This is mostly true if one is born into a humble background. With Frugality, Persistence, Constant learning and your fortunes will yield.

As regards your finance i hope this helps.

Save first, spend what is left. Not the other way round

I found my way to wealth when i decided that a part of all i earned is mine to keep and so will you-

This thread is obsolete. 1m is not a significant amount in Nigeria anymore.

That's true but how is it possible that 90% of the population do not have access to that amount as cash? They would have to sell assets or borrow to raise it.

Wao
Can't believe am seeing this post again after several years.

I think I made my first million between the age of 29-31 after several ventures into different businesses, the real estate gave me my first break through..i was a single man then.now I have two kids and a wife.

Presently I don't have up to 1m in my savings but more than 3m leave my account weekly.
I am into trucking ,I move granite within the south south region.
I have assets to my name that help me run my home and secure my future .such that no matter how worse the country becomes I have things I can let go and conveniently relocate my family.

Business in Nigeria has its up and down .we learn new things everyday in the business world, from government multiple tax to agberos demand and draconian business competitors.
keep your heads up ,move with people that are ahead of you,ask the correct questions ,don't be ashamed of your failures and always seek the approval of your creator in every business decision you about to take .
Shalom

This hits me hard... Dear God, I'm alone — help me so my family can breathe 😭🤲

grin Wow, it actually happened. Damn, I still remember the emotions I was feeling when I typed this. Honestly, I can't tell when I actually made my first million because it's been a lot of ups and downs; plus the fact that the knowledge I had even after I lost businesses were something I saw as worth millions.

But I would say I made my first millions when I received my royalties (including that of YouTube) a few days to my 24th birthday (this year 2026). Did I feel like I was drowning in happiness? Nope.

I still feel nervous because I don't want to go back to this state of poverty, I still consider myself broke because a million naira isn't even up to $800 today. I'm still not a millionaire (in my opinion) because these days I'm constantly spending on my ideas.

But I remain grateful to God forever. And when I get to my milestone, if I'm alive, I will quote this and thank God again, and everyone that helped me in one way or the another to get there.

I'm totally grateful to God 😭. I was literally feeling nervous because I have just spent so much in my next projects, and don't know when I will get my ROI. Then I decided to look for this comment. Oh man, I have come so far. I remember when I was so broke I starved myself to save up money, I remember... Ah! I wasn't even making up to 10k to 20k naira per month.

People said I was smart but I had no college degree or certificate. I was introverted. People said I could use my "good looks" but I was too busy struggling to survive, eating bread I got from the bakery I was working to survive. 😭

I plan to keep investing my ideas and even if I go back to zero, I hope I get back to my feet as soon as possible. I have a lot I want to say but I'm grateful.

If you want to use the internet to get out of poverty and building on other people's platforms like YouTube, Amazon, etc, always remember they can cut you off and steal from you. Don't be afraid to start with scratch but don't play with your capital, if you go back to zero without a penny for internet connection, it would be hell.
