Last year raining season farming, I planted melon and few GM water melon. My melon harvest was huge that I sold about 15k melon, gave many people and we prepared egusi soups for a year! I created a thread for it and it made FP.
My last year dry season maize equally yielded very good. Gave people dried maize and we also used to prepare pap for an entire month Ramadan (March this year) and beyond.
My okro, tomato and pepper farm this year was also good.
My two pawpaw plants have also become a blessing for me, neighbours, families and friends.
And the cassava that I planted last year dry season and harvested October this year was much, we used to produce gari and flour which are now mixing with yam flour for amala.
All nah backyard farming.

Many years ago when we return back home. It was during cassava harvesting time. We have harvested peel and wash the cassava.Started returning home when 31 hog(bush pig) in a single file passed across form this bush part to the opposite. All through I have to remain motionless and quite with the heavy cassava on my head.

Around 1994 my late father use to have a Honda bike we would ride to the farm 🚜🐄🌾and after work we would ride home, one day my self and two elder brothers went with him to the farm, but bcuz he was on duty by afternoon🕒 he prepare to leave, in my head we are all leaving together, but No he told me elder brothers to finish a certain portion before coming back home, in my head I was still going home with him but he told them to push the bike after it's started he just drove away, I screamed cry 😭😭😭 and chased after him but the my dad was gone, I was chasing 🏃🏃🏃crying until he was no longer in site, I was way too far from the farm 🚜🐄🌾now, so I continued my journey home, got lost on the way, follow a graveyard, was very scared 😱😰😰 bust out around sergeant quarters those who knows Shadewaka barracks will have relate by now, trekked and got home around 5pm, it was an experience, I will never forget. My brothers stayed back to do the job my dad gave them, and they assumed I know they way home, but only me knows what I went through that day.

The farming experience I won't forget...

Planted 3 acres of maize in Ghana. Crop was almost ready for harvest. Fulani herdsmen went there with their cattle to finish everything. Didn't get one grain of corn there.

Another experience was animal farming... bought layers and fed them till 8 months. Those girls didn't drop a single egg. Layers that would usually lay eggs between 4 to 5 months.

Had to be begging aboki upadan to buy about 5k birds not even as old layers. Big loss.

Many pleasant experiences too...not only negatives. But these ones I won't forget!
So, you also have the Fulani herdsmen problem in Ghana?

My friend and I relocated to Oyo and planted about 5 hectare of maize and cassava, two months later, after fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides and all that, fulani herdsmen entered the farm and destroyed everything with their cattle. It was as if our child died.
We went to their settlement inside the bush, tracked and located the persons responsible, arrested them with police, and then used our savings and shop investment money to be pursuing police and court case with herdsmen. Nothing came out of it. We stopped when our money was exhausted, there was threat to life, and an intercommunal dispute because of us, and began from ground zero.
We had to take up teaching jobs just to survive, before we relocated out of the place.

Some years back when i was at my parents home. I planted pineapples and i may sure i watered it every morning and evening but it took up to 2 years for the pineapples to mature and produce fruits. I was so happy when it finally produced it first fruit. I felt like a proud father.

Mine was when I was posted from one of the south south state in 2010 to one of the western state. I am a federal Worker gotten there my boss called everybody out one day and said money spend in clearing the compound surrounding the office complex is huge that he wants any officer willing to farm to be given portions, some of us from other states agreed why the indigen from the state didn't show interest.
Though farming has always been my hubby, I planted yams, vegetable(ugwu) and maize on my farm . The harvest was huge and I gat to be bringing yams to my state in the south south anytime I go back to pay my parents visit and I really enjoy those yams. What shock me is that some of my colleagues when I am not around they will just go and be stealing some of my things in the farm and these were the people that said they were not interested.

Nigerians generally take advantage of themselves. People don't like the hard work but they will steal farm produce when it is time for harvest. May God reward your efforts on the farm. Amen.

Wow. This was a painful adventure in Oyo. Thank God you are alive. Don't give up on farming. You can start farming closer to where you live. I am proud of your determination. Cheers.

Many years back, I had a near death experience in the farm shocked

It was one Sunday morning, I decided to plant some seeds after the heavy rains ..

I was whistling " Send down the rain " by Majek Fashek when I got a sudden feeling of being watched. shocked

I turned to look back at the dense vegetation behind me and realized that the whole jungle had fallen silent.

No chirping of insects, no singing of birds, the only sound there was myself breathing...

I heard a twig break... Stealthily like a predator was creeping closer. The sound was a loud as shotgun in the dead silence. undecided

What I saw next is the stuff of nightmares ... I tremble now at the memory.
what was it please share

I will never forget my experience with Fulani cows when they destroyed my maize plantation at Araromi. I have posted it here before. I'll be right back to once again recount my ordeals.

Modified:
I was on the farm till 6pm on that day and I didn't perceive any sign that something bad would soon happen. The herders came with their cows at night and by dawn they have eaten up over four acres of maize plantation. I received a phone call from a fellow farmer around 7am next morning. He said there was nothing again on my farm. I thought he was joking until I got there to see things by myself. My farmland was as plain and empty as an open field. Cows have eaten up everything! Both the crops and the plants, nothing remains except cow dungs that littered everywhere. It was like a dream. The memory lingers till today.
Araromi in Ogun? God abeg o😩
