Hello Nairalanders,

For the past 3 weeks now I have been having some issues on my car battery. Most time I will park it in the night only to start it in the morning and found out the battery has drained but the surprise comes when I jump-start it with another battery and it works then drive it and stay in office for almost 11hrs, whenever I start the car it will work perfectly, the only time it drains is overnight.

You definitely have a battery drain issue that need to be checked. A parasitic drain test would need to be carried out to ascertain what component is causing this.

Nothing is wrong with your car
I was stressing myself for months.
Firstly battery charger chop me5k
I got frustrated and bought portable charger.
The moment I crank.even if it charges to 100 percent
It won't hold charge
I didn't stop there .I wasted anther 5k to refill the battery
It help power for just a day and returned back to its shittt.
It was then it dawned on me that all batteries sold in naija are super fake,coupled with the hot climate, short trips,traffic... just dave yourself the stress and buy another battery. For better performance. Pls go for 100 ah battery. It's around 90k to 100k,before it ws like 48k. But Almighty dolla don scatter everywhere. Buy a new battery..either rocket,solite, everstat, etc..100ah and give yourself 2years max. After 2 years from the day u mounted it,be preparing to buy another battery. That's the bitter truth.
K learnt the hard way. I sha thank God I no call any rewire or meko.becos those one go scatter your car. From starter, to its Coil,no its plugs sorry it's nozzles. Ah I forgot it's fuel pump.

Are you sure witches are not using your vehicle at night?

Check the efficiency of the alternator first. From what you have explained here ,the battery is okay,but it looses its charges once parked .

You have a parasitic drain - find an ammeter and test each fuse.

One woman back then at Ajegunle confessed to have the capability of driving her poor husband's danfo in the night to their coven that was why the danfo wanted to kih Oga..

Check the battery bushing.
This is what happend to me when I was driving corrolla.

Hmmm… this sounds like a classic case of a parasitic drain. 😅 Some electrical component might be drawing power even when the car is off—like a faulty alarm, interior light, or stereo system. Overnight, it slowly kills the battery, but once you drive it, the alternator recharges everything. I’d check all lights, fuses, and accessories first. Anyone else here experienced this exact issue before?

Check the following

1. Are you using tracker and alarm system? Even the consumption maybe minimal, this can't be ruled out entirely, so check on it

2. Is your boot or doors fully closed? This can drain.your battery overnight too

3. Does your radio or multimedia player runs even when the car is turned off, ensure its properly switched off.

4. Check if your parking light knob is at off position

5. Another one that is hidden is your heater, that heats your back windshield.... It's always one of your hidden culprit too... This can be due to stuck relay or bad fuse

If these are checked and still having battery drain, then the next one is to get a thermal camera (Its expensive though) or rent one and use it to check the whole car early in the morning, ensure you don't start the car...: You can spot abnormal heat from components drawing current when they shouldn't, revealing hidden issues like a stuck relay, glove box light, fuse or module staying awake, even when things should be cool and off.

If you don tire to do all these troubleshooting, bro buy a battery isolator (Picture attached) and install it to save yourself the stress... Buy the one that comes with remote and you can attach it to your car key too, it can even work as security for your car too... It's sold on AliExpress or temu for less than 20k

Uhmmm 🤔 I'm having same issue too on my Toyota Corolla 012 but I was told it's a parasitic draining so I want to test with my friend battery before calling any rewire coz those guys can be dangerous sometimes when it comes to handling wiring system.

U need a rewire to check ur charging system . The most likely culprit is, something is activated and draining your battery, could be alarm, your door not properly locked, your booth etc. I've you tried removing one head maybe the positive over night and see what happens ?

Your battery is a solar battery

I had a similar problem with my car, Toyota 4Runner in the past. It was discovered my ABS was the cause. It has issues which made the battery to bebrunning all through the night when the car is not working.
Check and fix your ABS problem and the problem will be over.

Bros. What type of battery is it sealed 9ad those type u top up with water. To be honest with you those type u top up I don't think I've seen one in a while. The ones that are sealed u can't charge it. Once it starts having issues it will disappoint you one day. The battery charger will just chop ur money They are not cheating it. Test ur car with a rewirer. After that get a new battery.

Your battery is getting bad gradually, prepare to buy another one but for now you can remove the battery terminals in the night when you finally parked it pending the time you get another one.

1. Turn off d car and off all devices, radio,full light etc. close d doors.

Then Open d hood . Remove d positive battery connector. Gently tap it on d positive head of d battery. It's not suppose to spark.

But if it spark,then some wires have bridged or a device keeps working which is draining ur battery.

2. Your battery might be weak. When u are leaving home for work,u don't on full light which allow d battery to charge well but while returning from work u on full light which will reduce d battery charging.

I’m not a mechanic, but it seems like your battery is weak and it’s time to change it. Night is cooler and weak batteries don’t do too well in the cold. If it gets really cold, that battery won’t start

I had this experience some years ago. If your residential area is cold at night, then that might be a factor. To confirm if cold affects your battery, do this:
-as soon as you arrive home and sure you'll not go out with the car anymore for that evening
-disconnect the battery and keep it inside the house where cold would not affect it. Then I used empty poultry feed bag to wrap the battery, place it on a plank and not on the bare floor and then covered it with one old cooker. You can use anything in place of the cooler, just something to keep it warm.
-Take out in the morning when you're ready to start the car and connect it
-Start the car. If it starts, then it's cold that weakens the battery fluid and cell.
-if not then you might need to borrow a battery in good state overnight to confirm if there's something else apart from the battery causing the issue. If the borrowed battery stays overnight in the car outside and starts the car then I would want to conclude your battery is due for a change.

I'm having the same issue I bought another battery same thing. I think it could be my tracker . Coincidentally I came across this thread while I'm waiting for rewire to come help me diagnosis the issue

Your car alternator that's supposed to charge your battery whenever the car is on ,is not working.

Call an auto mobile electrician to check your car alternator
