You can not obey God laws you don't even have what it takes to accomplish this task only one man did it and still surrendered his life because of it

Let break it down

why would Jesus tell the rich young ruler he had to sell everything to attain eternal life many people teach this to lead you to believe that you gotta surrender your entire life to attain salvation

but Jesus didn't tell the rich young ruler how to be saved he showed him why he couldn't save himself Jesus gave him an impossible command on purpose Jesus was showing him and everyone that was watching that salvation cannot be earned by good works.

the young ruler asked the wrong question he said what must I do to inherit eternal life so Jesus answered him according to the logic of his own question Jesus took him down the path of works to show him where that would ends he said keep the commandments so the rich young ruler said I've done this since my youth

so Jesus said okay then sell everything and that final command wasn't a set of salvation it was the final blow to his works based mindset it exposed the one thing he could never do the thing his heart trusted more than God and Jesus did that intentionally because Jesus always raises the law to an impossible level when someone thinks salvation comes through their good behavior

just like the other examples in scripture when Jesus said cut off your hand if it causes you to sin be perfect as your father's perfect forgive others or your father won't forgive you

But notice those things jesus list are actually not new covenant salvation requirements those are the hammer of impossibility for anyone still trying to earn eternal life by good performance

the rich young ruler is one of Jesus's clearest demonstrations that if salvation depends on what you do the standard becomes so high that no one can survive it

and right after the man walks away Jesus proves the point he says with man this is impossible (.... which means using man's holiness to get salvation it actually impossible......)

but with God all things are possible (which means putting your faith in jesus then holiness of God is possible)

that's Matthew nineteen twenty-six that line is just Jesus's summary of the entire encounter what's impossible is earning eternal life through human efforts.....

. what is possible is actually seeing it as a gift of God..

Then that is how you get saved forever.....
