Hello ladies and gentlemen,

She maltreats his pet.
Will this attitude translate to her maltreating any young member of his family if they choose to come stay for a day or two?

Could her attitude towards a pet be a red flag on how She will deal with her subjects, other kids, and subordinates?
Not everyone understand the idea of having animal as a friend

You can't use that as a yardstick

- Yes. Red flag 100%.

It is not about understanding having pet as friend. It is more about cruelty or affection for animals generally.

Still cannot use it as a yardstick

In this part of the world where we eat all manners of animals, not everyone understand why you should have affection for animals

Its a red flag for me, I love pets and want them around. Even i can treat a goat as a pet grin But it is food at the end of the day. For cats, dogs, i wish I can have a cheetah. They are pets not food.

It's wrong to be cruel to pets. Stop capping dust. They have life and then they are domesticated not like animals in the wild. I wonder how some of you guys reason sef? You must be an equally wicked person too

No no no.., I had a very bad experience with it as a kid. It ate something precious to me and I was beaten for it. From that day, walahiii I hated cats. As simple as they seem, their cunning nature is next to none. I'll rather keep a dog. But cat? Lailaaai
Na fish?? E no go pass fish grin Wicked olongbo grin grin

I no go lie o, I HATE cats and can do anything to them to keep them away from me.
So I'll not say it's a red flag to me. Anyone can hate an animal, whether it's a pet or not, so I'll say it's wrong to judge them harshly based on it.
You can hate pets, that's fine and it's definitely not a red flag. But then it becomes a red flag when you decide to own a pet just so that you can maltreat it. She has no business having a pet in the first place.

Capping ke? Hope you know the meaning of that word.

Feel free to teach me the meaning Noah... What you attached has no relevance with the topic. That people eat humans doesn't justify you treating others wrongly or maltreat them? Are you even reasoning at allhuh Or you don't know people actually feast on human meat in this same country?

You don't have to be an animal lover to treat animals well. It is common human decency
Re: She Maltreats His Pet: Is This A Red Flag? by Chickensoup: 5:55pm On Dec 28, 2025
Some people just don't like pets either due to fear or hygiene so you can't really blame your lover in that aspect. Rather than seeing it as a red flag, trying to make them comfortable with the pet. Atleast hope it's not a pet that doesn't like to share their owners with someone else.

(1) She transfers her anger and hits the pet at any slightest provocation
(2) For instance, if She carelessly leaves something on the floor with the pet and goes out to buy something and the pet eats it. She can lock her in a secluded space for up to 12 hours without food.
(3) She can restrict the pet of food for up to 3 days (as a result of point 2 above) except an external intervention is involved.

Many of these things makes the pet to always run outside on sighting her or hearing her voice
That's diabolical. RUN

You are the one having comprehension issue

That people are cruel to animal does not translate to treating humans badly. That's my position based on the OP's writes up

The argument that people should have affection towards animal is another topic entirely

Why are we seeing it as something strange. Nollywood and our religious belief didn't even help matters when it comes to how we treat animals in this part of the world

Why are we running away from the truth
How many homes have pets
How many of our stores have pets section

Having pets is not common in 3rd world countries, especially among people living below the poverty line.

It may be a red flag, it may not on the other hand. Due to the fact that some persons have phobias. Better just making it known the total dislike. Maltreatment is a negative sign of a tendency to a bad attitude

Comprehension zero

If you like name the dog kiddaz and shower together daily ..the fact that my background n cultural practice sees them as barbecue won't change the way I would react when I see your dog

Kiddaz might be your pet but it is food to me. Don't blame me, I was wired like that until I come to a point I can unlearn n re learn

Why is the owner of the pet going out there to date someone who is clearly not an animal lover as he supposedly wants us to believe he is? He is the one responsible for putting that pet in harms way by his refusal to fully vet his potential mates, ensuring he picks only from the pool of animal lovers and not from without. 😩😩

The "he" described in the OP is the major red flag here particularly where it concerns the peace of that animal. Dating someone who clearly does not regard animals is like dating a woman who hates children when you are yourself a father with children. She is not the problem...the man is. 🥱🥱🥱🥱
