Good pm Gurus and Professionals in the house. Pls sir/ma I want to start buying stocks, what are the basics that I need to know. Thanks in anticipation of your responses
I am not a guru nor a professional. I only take investment as a hobby and i do it consistently. I will advice you read through this thread (if possible from the beginning). Look for a mentor who you can look up to. Also, ensure you find out more about any company you want put you money into. It is good you understand a bit of their business. Experience is the best teacher. You also need a stockbroker, because you can't do the buying and selling on your own.

All I know is #100 is possible in FBNH in 2026.It does not matter what other bank share price are right now.If transcorp hotel can do #170 by toni.Even kpakus that is suppose to be minus 20kobo is at #13.
And you feel a business with over 100yr existence cannot be pumped to just #100 naira. If not bad management over yrs do FBNH have any reason not to be in 4 digits price as great grand father in banking industry

Morgan sent an email a few hours back talking about fixing the issue with iTrade in collaboration with NGX.

Who knows what they're talking about.

I hope it's this streaming lag issue.

Open a stock/cscs account with a stockbroking firm. Click the 3rd link in my signature to open one for free. Please note that Investment One stockbrokers will never ask you for cash to open an account.

Then set your investment Objective - reason/s why you want to invest in stocks.
Prepare for the long term (stock market investment is a marathon, not a sprint). As you are starting, you could change later, it's always good to start with the long term in view.
Read a lot of pages on this thread, plus other materials, but filter what you read or hear to align with your objective.

You can also reach out to me. I have a material to give to you that will serve as a guide.

I wish you the best as you start your investment journey.

Hello my bosses. I'm looking to invest 4million into the stock market in January next year.

I'm interested in growth stocks as dividends don't really make any sense at this stage.

Any advise?

Alhaji owns more than 70% of DR. He had said something like that in the past; Otedola has some stake too.

Ikeja Hotel Plc's Triumph: Proof That True Gains Come from Patient Compounding

What a rewarding decision it can be to embrace the philosophy of loving "Mr. Market" and holding through thick and thin.

Any investor who bought Ikeja Hotel Plc shares during the tough times of the 2021 pandemic and held on through to late 2025 would surely reflect with satisfaction on the immense benefits of long-term holding.

It required true emotional resilience and discipline to endure the market's volatility—the ultimate price a rational investor pays for the extraordinary rewards of compounding.

From being dismissed as a penny stock trading at sub ₦3 in 2021, Ikeja Hotel rose dramatically, hitting an all-time high above ₦40 on 29th Decmber 2025.

Indeed, the real gains in investing often come not from frequent buying and selling, but from patient waiting. This is precisely what Charlie Munger recognized when he emphasized the value of sitting still.

Activity does not equal success in the stock market, and expertise in technical analysis is no guarantee of superior returns.

I eagerly await the full-year 2025 financial report for this compounding machine. Returns exceeding 1,500% over the period are not an illusion but a testament to disciplined investing—rooted in patience and emotional resilience rather than luck.

Indeed, the stock market is rarely a get-rich-quick scheme, but its rewards can arrive sooner—and more abundantly—than we ever expect.

No one here will tell you but it moved in the last 2 trading sessions.
I will just get it at whatever price today. Tired of my bid failing. Naming it could be misrepresented as MH.
