Meklex:finally took the car to a mechanic today and he removed the direct fan connection and connected it back to factory settings, he use his car scanner to check and the fan comes on once the car reaches 91°c, so he said the thermostat is still working, he then checked the radiator cap and said it's likely why it overheated. My old radiator cap is rated 1.0 but I wasn't able to find it in the market, but I was able to find 0.9 and 108kpa, I bought both for 3k but currently using the 108kpa cos chatgpt said it's closer to 1.0 rating. Should I continue with the 108kpa? I drove it around for more than 30 minutes with the AC on and there was no overheating. Here's a picture of the old radiator cap.

Meklex:bro I'm having overheating issues on my Corolla 2009when the ac is on when driving , the electrician connected the fan directly to ignition before, the fan only comes on at a particular temperature mechanic checked and told me It's thermostat was removed I have driven it for 2yrs without overheating and just started recently but now the same issues still persists, is it possible to reconnect it back to how it was and I'm planning on washing the condenser tomorrow I think it might be a clogged condenser |
| Re: Club-Lexus by Meklex(m): 11:34pm On Dec 30, 2025 |
flamesthehussle:the issue is definitely not from the fan then. So, reconnect it back to factory settings. And yes, it's possible to reconnect it back. You should ask the ogas for the thread on what to do next. There's no harm in pressure washing your condenser and radiator and they are equally cheap to wash. You can also describe your issue in detail to ChatGPT and it will give you ideas on what could be wrong. |

Meklex:okay thanks, do I take it to the electrician that connected it directly or find another electrician? |
| Re: Club-Lexus by Meklex(m): 11:49pm On Dec 30, 2025 |
flamesthehussle:never go back to a mechanic that repaired your car the wrong way. Find a mechanic that uses a good car scanner, he will use that to detect what could be wrong with the car. The workshop I went to have different departments under one management. |

Meklex:Please how much did yours cost ? |
| Re: Club-Lexus by kingreign(m): 7:01am On Dec 31, 2025 |
Meklex:Don't use this particular radiator cap, the rubber seal is broken and a chunk is missing. Even if a car is overheating, as long as its temperature rises to the ECU target temperature range, the ECU will command the radiator fans to activate. Ensure there are no air pockets/bubbles in your cooling system, no leaks of coolant from any joint or pipe and your water pump works fine. |
| Re: Club-Lexus by kingreign(m): 7:04am On Dec 31, 2025 |
flamesthehussle:Check your radiator, your water pump and your fan. Ensure the fan works when AC kicks in to draw air sufficiently to cool the system, ensure your radiator isn't blocked or damaged, ensure your water pump is fine. For good measure, check your ECT sensor to ensureit works. |
| Re: Club-Lexus by Meklex(m): 7:55am On Dec 31, 2025 |
flamesthehussle:I paid 5k for workmanship and 3k for two radiator caps. So 8k total |
| Re: Club-Lexus by Meklex(m): 8:00am On Dec 31, 2025 |
kingreign:yeah, that's the old radiator cap, I am currently using another one with good rubber seals. I wasn't able to check the water pump yesterday cos the mechanic said it's pointless since it didn't overheat again after driving for 30 minutes. I am currently using water so, leaks can't be detected, will change back to coolant once I go back to base. |

kingreign:okay, thank you for your advice the thermostat was removed initially the fan turns on whenever I start the A.C before it was connected directly to ignition for the radiator do I need to loose the radiator to check for it and also the water pump is there also a way of checking it? also partaking to the water pump since the car only overheats when the A.C is turned on do u think it's still a culprit? I'm thinking of leaving it till I'm fully prepared and take it to a better Auto workshop where scanning and proper checks will be done or should I go to normal mechanic for the checks? |
| Re: Club-Lexus by flamesthehussle: 9:35am On Dec 31, 2025 |
Meklex:okay thanks, I think I should follow your idea of taking it to a better workshop like the one you visited maybe manage it for a few weeks till I'm fully prepared i think the fan running for those weeks won't really have a bad effect and I don't drive regularly and far |
| Re: Club-Lexus by 2cribz: 9:47am On Dec 31, 2025 |
Alaye my fans run direct, but the one that tuns mostly is the engine own,the ac own stsys off cos it was wired to the ac relay ,so once ac picks and cuts, the fan ac also picks and cuts. Yhe only issue is the motor might get weak, accumulate dirt anddust and might cause some - ob your mpg, battery wontexceed 2 years. So yesh no much effect.i swesr my next car must be electric . And me i go buy my own power bank. flamesthehussle: |

Meklex:Very well then, keep an eye on the system. |
| Re: Club-Lexus by kingreign(m): 10:46am On Dec 31, 2025 |
flamesthehussle:Replace the thermostat, return fan to factory settings, check radiator, use good unit if its bad, visit a normal mechanic |
