I'm planning my wedding and my fiancee suggested that she wants to sew a wedding gown, and then I gave her an option to rent one for N50, 000 so I can channel the finance elsewhere. She's insisting that she will hire a tailor to sew one for her, so then I told her that I will give her the N50, 000 and that's what I can afford for the gown.

I'm doing this because I feel like it's just a day dress and allocating funds to other things will be better. Hiring a tailor to sew a new wedding gown for lot more money for just a day does not really make sense to me, especially if I still need funds for other things and she is wearing it once.

Am I the person not reasoning properly?

I think you are "the person not reasoning properly, or you at least want us to not reason properly, because I can't see where you are telling us the wedding dress she wants to sew for herself cost a "lot more money" than the ₦50, 000 you offered her.

That said, and even if it does cost a lot more money, she might be sewing her wedding dress to advertise her skills and make a lot more money, which would make a lot of sense to an entrepreneurially minded future husband that you might be.

Most females attach meanings to wedding gowns. Some even put it on during marriage anniversary. Some families even dress their late females in her wedding gown. I've seen and witnessed it before.

If you are on a tight budget I see no reason for sewing or buying a wedding gown, getting married, and divorcing these days is easy as a handshake.

I think if you down play it and make her feel stupid for wanting to celebrate you two becoming one then you’ll start your marriage with a resentful wife. How old is she?

You really need to be honest and transparent with her. Promise her an amazing one year anniversary or something so she feels special to you. Don’t turn your marriage into the battle of the sexes! Find a good compromise with your girl. What she wants isn’t out of the ordinary but you need to be honest with her and try to find a middle ground.

Let her rent the gown 50k whose gonna know ? You women just like unnecessary expenses. If he's broke after the wedding the same woman will be complaining .

Stop the hyping of wedding pls. What happens to our own culture wedding dress. Must we do oyinbo own by sewing wedding and wear suit? We always overdo in this country. Na so them go push u till u go go bank to borrow loan and use it for wedding. After wedding, na she go still dey lament if u dey pay loan and can't provide well for the house and last last,d marriage go sc@rter. Cut ur clothes according to ur clothes.

nothing fact there. Still go collect loan because u want to satisfy them,dey will still ruin u. Ok what will u call a woman that forced her husband to have elaborated wedding, and with love and to make his wife happy, even after they had kids together oooo,he went to borrowed loan to join the money he has. After wedding, things no dey normal since his paying back loan first. Boom, the marriage no last 6 months. So what will u say to that? Can u satisfy women? NO

Don't rent weeding gown, so that if anything goes wrong you will know where your problem is coming from. (May your marriage be blessed and nothing will go wrong )

It's too spiritual to wear someone else's sweat not to talk of weeding cloth. If your are not buoyant enough, postpone it or don't wear wedding gown at all
