"I should have listened to my mother" — Single mother of 2 breaks down in tears A woman has sparked intense reactions online after breaking down in tears while sharing how ignoring her mother’s advice led her to becoming a single mother of two without a husband. In a viral video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the woman, identified as Goodness, spoke emotionally about the choices she made in her younger years and the regrets she now carries. Goodness explained that during her early days at the university, she received several marriage proposals but turned them all down. According to her, she believed she was too young and too beautiful to settle down at the time. She said her mother repeatedly advised her not to reject every man who came seeking her hand in marriage, warning that she might regret it later. However, she admitted that she ignored those warnings, believing marriage could wait. While fighting back tears in the video, she said: “Sometimes, it’s good to listen to your parent, it’s good to listen to them. My reason is this, I don’t want to cry. My reason is this, I can remember when I was in my first semester in the university, even my send semester, my third semester, so many men were coming for my hand in marriage, I was doing guy, and thinking that I’m too beautiful. I don’t want any man to tie me down, let me enjoy my life. My mum called me and was like, ‘Goodness you don’t need to reject all the men that want your hand in marriage’. ‘You don’t need to reject all at the same time, may be God want you to settle down, may be God want you to marry that time’, I told my mum marry for what, what am I using marriage to do, what is marriage, I’m too beautiful. Anytime I want to marry, I will marry. That’s what I told my mum. I told her no man will say no to me when I really want to settle down that I very beautiful. I was doing guy, rejecting all the men and my mum tried to talk to me, she tried to make me understand that may be when I will want husband I will not see it. My mum told me ‘all the men that are coming for you can not be bad, look for one, may be God want you to marry’. I never listened to my mum. She should be more worried about being financially stable than getting married tho. Or maybe if she’s lucky she may find a widower or be a concubine to traditional men. No single guy in his right senses would marry an after 1 or 2 when you yourself is coming with a clean slate. |
