Madam Mercy, I have 1 million naira to invest in the ICT sector, between MTN and Chams, which of them do you advise I buy? I want to buy a stock that will give at least 100% by the end of the year.
Both are good and have good news lurking around the corner.......but considering the amount at stake, if I were to be the one o, I'll go for CHAMS 😊

1. because I would have prefer the penny with more room for growth, it can easily do 100, 200, 300%
2. Also considering the amount to invest, N1m, penny is preferable.

3. Now let's do small Arithmetics.....😁

* 1M will pick 220,000 units of CHAMS @4.50
* 1M will pick 1550 units of MTNN at say 640
* Even though 10% is 10%, price mvmt in CHAMS can easily be done even by small investor and with small amount while big players can only be looked unto for execution of 100k single transactions in MTNN.

In summary, the final decision is yours to take.

If market forces take us to 1200, let it stabilize there first and our improved exports can then take us to 1k over time.

1200 is also gonna push our GDP back to $350bn making us the 3rd largest economy in Africa which is slightly less embarrassing than calling us the 4th.
I want dollar below 800

To think that exactly 2 years ago in February of 2024, this same USD was selling for 1900.

Someone with N19m who bought $10k then is now probably going to soon have his money worth just N12m after 2 years, whereas if he had put it any any set of sound stocks on the NGX, it would be worth N60m at least (5x)

If he had diligently picked winners, it would be worth up to N120m(10x)

Even if he had just locked in fixed income at average 26% yield, it would be worth N30m compared to N12m from the preachers of "hold dollars"

it depends on how one is lucky. Bought dollar at 750 2023, sold at 1750 averagely to buy dollar priced commodities, Wapco, OKOMUOIL, presco. Some companies with pricing power. Right now am buying us stocks as small caps are getting beaten down with quality growth engines like appfolio, copart, next power, but still chop beating in bath& body works, occidental corporation. If you have small capital so many opportunities just avoid temptation of over- diversification or over-concentration

Let's try and view issues from various perspectives. All fingers are not equal!

₦1m is Jacob's flexing money.
₦1m is John's monthly salary.
₦1m is Jose's yearly savings.

There’s no point arguing with you. You need to learn, each position you held was wrong. I just don’t have energy for back and forth right now. Then, name calling is always the last resort when people like you can’t defend your position. 👌

In my case, i started out investing with less than a million but I diligently commited to increasing my equity portfolio.

A fixed percentage of the profits from projects is marked for that purpose.

The portfolio has gone up significantly from where I started from.

So I'll urge the poster to start their journey too. Nothing is too small to with.

Selah.

Sometimes it's beyond luck though. As of Q1, 2025, it was no longer prudent to hold idle dollars vs naira assets.

As you are thinking about the one that will give you the best returns, you should also put into consideration the one that can loose you money very fast if things don't go the way you envisage.

In marketing parlance, we can summarize this as: “higher risk comes with higher potential reward [and higher potential downside]...”

https://www.thecable.ng/wale-edun-says-fg-will-commence-sale-of-state-owned-assets-in-2026/

Finance Minister, Wale Edun Says FG Will Commence Sale of State-owned Assets in 2026.

If it is absolutely impossible or very difficult for govt to operate and manage these assets, why not find credible partners and lease these assets over some years e.g. 20,30,50 years instead of outright sale?.
The intervening lease period would afford govt the opportunity to assess how well the new managers are operating the assets and use the information to make further decisions.
Why just sell off outrightly? Can govt not even sell like 51-60% to a majority investor while govt keeps like 40%?

Best to privatise everything which will give economic freedom to every one. Unemployment will reduce.

Good if them sell nnpc , ncc , nafdac, efcc.

Why can't they establish a plantation thereby creating jobs for Nigerians and also reduce the pressure on Naira
It not easy to scale for everyone and there might be no incremental gain for them as it actually a cyclical business. Just bad economic decisions made them look so good.

Are we really sure?
Strategically speaking, it could be a huge mistake and dangerous for a nation to sell 100% stake in its national oil company (like NNPC) outrightly to private hands.
This is why no single member of OPEC has done that. Countries like Saudi, Qatar, UAE, Brasil, Kuwait, Russia, etc all have some significant share in their national oil companies, even though the majority share may go to private investors.

Naira may also soon be overvalued, if oversold too because our deficit budget still out of control and budget performance is still poor. Government needs to be more serious on corruption prevention and rule of law. We still have very weak systems. Feeling our equities are not pricing that risk. Many what if's. Not selling off but taking more short-term bonds. Don't need to beat market always, but protect capital and it value. How is your trading going.
