I think some folks at Nairametrics bet against the naira, their reporting lately seems biased against it.

Since I noticed they failed to report that $150k BDC sales, I knew they are probably on the wrong side of the trade.

No one actually thought the naira would again gain in 2026 after a record year of gain in 2025.

It's that tone of "the tax man will wait for you"
I don't think it portrays the best reaction.

Congratulations are what are in order to the boss.
The taxman is not an assassin. grin

The tax law is a legislation of the National Assembly. If implemented, the taxman will nab everybody unless you boycott the entire financial system.

So I'm not wishing him and his heirs bad if that's what it sounds like to you.

Tax paying is even a Biblical injunction. Jesus said we shouldl give to Caezer (Govt) his due.
But the Govt owes to God and man the duty to use tax funds so entrusted to it judiciously.

Don't cause me to start helping Oyedele in his ministry of selling taxation to Nigerians. grin

When you over diversify you water down your returns. Nobody actually needs more than 5 quality growth stocks in their portfolio 1 from one sector.

It's funny to see investors kill their returns with crazy over diversification as they want to be in every stock.
The thing is nobody is God.

Just so you know i have a criteria that is very non-sentimental, it strictly based on value proposition. Each month i buy the best my criteria picks no matter what it is.

Besides You can never know if after you buy a stock it grows or tanks. In this same portfolio i have a stock that has done nearly 200% in less than 6 months while another is doing -15%

Please post your YTD return

Maybe you need to listen to learn rather than listen to defend, or you will continue going the wrong direction. How can you have a stock that has done nearly 200% in a market period where even dead stocks are rising but your YTD is below the market?

Well, my current highest return from a stock is about 64%

Both UBA and ACCESSCORP were around ₦29 in January 2024.

ACCESSCORP is supposed to be around ₦59 if not that insiders are hindering the price appreciation.

I'm not so sure "over-diversification" is the issue. The ultimate diversification is to own all the stocks in the market with the All-Share index weighting. If you do that, you'll match the index' performance.

To answer your question, I don’t think i have to explain how weight averages works naa. I buy stocks when i have spare cash. At each point it is different amount. A=50 naira, B = 20 naira, C = 5 naira etc. depending on the amount invested in each stock and return on it, it all averages down to 20% return YTD

You have a YTD of about 30% YTD. Please how many stocks do you have in your portfolio?

NB: the purpose of this debate is for us to have better geared portfolios. For those saying two stocks blah blah blah, except your God or your Juju man can see the future; it is a floored argument. So please let’s explain concepts better and i won’t listen to you if you don’t show you have evidence of what you are saying - Post your YTD return. It is like a poor man giving a seminar on “maintaining generational wealth” grin

Make una answer me fast, I intend to use a significant capital outlay (well significant in comparison to my portfolio value sha grin) to diversify more today - i feel it’s necessary for an entirely different sound reason. Mind you I don’t just pick stocks at random and pour money in it.

I believe you my brother. There is still enough upside potential for Access. Very soon GTCO, Zenith, UBA, Firstholco and even the revaitalized WEMA go tire and Access will play catch up.

Sense no go kill me.

Are you ever expecting any good thing from Nairametrics?
They are one of the Apostles of N2000/$ by December 2025 and have never been comfortable when their prediction did not come to pass.
I do not want to sound somehow but take time watching them going forward.
I did not even bother to read the yeye article when I saw it on their website.

Dangers of an Naira appreciation indeed.

Me neither, I never bothered reading it, I found it annoying.

The danger is only to them who selfishly placed a wrong bet.

I mean if they've loaded USD at 1500 or higher and 1200 is coming, then they're indeed in a dangerous situation, especially if you consider the fact that the naira they used for the hoarding could have made another 50-100% if it had been rightly deployed.
