Exercise caution from this point on…better safe than sorry.
The market does indeed need to slow down now.

The pace needs to really taper from today.

To answer your question, I don’t think i have to explain how weight averages works naa. I buy stocks when i have spare cash. At each point it is different amount. A=50 naira, B = 20 naira, C = 5 naira etc. depending on the amount invested in each share and return on it, it all averages down to 20% return YTD

You have a YTD of about 30% YTD. Please how many stocks do you have in your portfolio?

NB: the purpose of this debate is for us to have better geared portfolios. For those saying two stocks blah blah blah, except your God or your Juju man can see the future; it is a floored argument. So please let’s explain concepts better and i won’t listen to you if you don’t show you have evidence of what you are saying - Post your YTD return. It is like a poor man giving a seminar on “maintaining generational wealth” grin

Make una answer me fast, I intend to use a significant capital outlay (well significant in comparison to my portfolio value sha grin) to diversify more today - i feel it’s necessary for an entirely different sound reason. Mind you I don’t just pick stocks at random and pour money in it.
You might want to wait a bit for a major market correction or pullback as some stocks are at their all time high. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for this but It doesn’t matter to me, i am not planning to get out of any stock i enter until 5 years minimum.

Special thanks to emmanuelewumi for providing us with price history of some stocks.

When i mentioned the time factor in one of my earlier posts some people doubted.

I remember saying in 5-10 years, you should be looking at atleast 5x - 10x (500% - 1,000% return) minimum. Some stocks would even do more. Even before Emmanuelewumi posted it is a market phenomenon i have seen.

Harddiskng:
I see some post and i am like wow, rookie mistake. Been there, done that.

I remember trying stocks like 10 years ago, I put in 1m and lost 40% of my portfolio value lol, then just sold them off. Guess what each of those stocks are doing over 500% from that time. I still have one (like 100 units) i forgot to sell and i kick myself every time i see it.

I have just 10 stocks right now. My highest number of holdings at a time was 19.

Maybe you should cut your losses at between 8% and 10% rather than allowing it to go all the way to 15%. Also, you might have significant exposure to a sector that is not performing well.

Thank you for your input

I am comfortable with the losses. My entire portfolio is small, but even at that 20% YTD return puts me at 1m profit.

As someone that as seen 50% loss on my entire portfolio, when i first tried stock trading years ago, a negative 15% on one 3 out of 20 ish stocks no shake me grin

I don’t plan to sell anything even if it seems i made a mistake. Time (years) is correcting factor.

What i would do is reallocate new capital such that 60% of my portfolio value would be made of about 6 - 10 solid stocks

I left a few to ride with the bonus.

I don't expect any of the stocks whose results are still pending to experience any major reversal yet. I'm keeping them intact.
