A church recently raised ₦960,000 for a member who was very sick. His hospital bill was ₦210,000 an amount he and his family could not afford. During a service, the pastor announced; “Our brother is hospitalized and needs ₦210,000. Let us support him.” Members began donating generously and by the end of the service, the total reached ₦960,000. Afterwards, the pastor counted the money, gave ₦210,000 to the sick man’s brother to pay the hospital, and deposited the remaining ₦750,000 into the church account. The problem started when the family became upset. They argued that all the money should have gone to their brother, not just the hospital bill, because people donated out of compassion to help him with recovery, medicines and daily needs. The pastor, however, said he only requested ₦210,000 and once that target was met, any extra money belonged to the church. The way this situation is now.. What is your take on this? Who do you think is right in this situation? 🤔 |

The brother is greedy. He should be happy people were able to donate for his bills and all he needed to do was explain he needed some more for food and upkeep and the pastor might have added 100k for him. If I were the pastor, I’ll explain to the church that the money was saved for future purposes. I’ll also demand for the 210k from the brother. I despise greedy people😤 🚶♂️🚶♂️🚶♂️ |

SpencerForbes: . Chaiiii look at this brainwashed church goer . Sometimes I'm left in total bafflement on how grown ups end up being hoodwinked by these so-called scammers called men of God . Op,as for the member and his family, they're right to ask for the complete money, cuz had it been the total donation wasn't up to the needed amount, would the pastor had withdrawn money from the church account to complete it? ![]() |
| Re: Who Do You Think Is Right In This Situation? by Namaster: 9:15am On Feb 18 |
Donation was for a SPECIFIC CAUSE. The money RAISED should be used for it regardless of the surplus. The church raised the money for the SICK man. He should get ALL the money. Even if the Hospital Bills do NOT currently exceed the #210K. There is NO guarantee that it still WON'T. Plus, someone whose ENTIRE family could NOT raise ordinary #210K to potentially SAVE his life would definitely NEED more financial assistance while recuperating. The CONGREGATION did a great thing. The PASTOR is jeopardising it. If the CHURCH needs money, request donations FOR the church. This one belongs wholly and exclusively to the MEMBER. |

Sonnobax15:Abeg, make we tell ourselves the truth for once. 🙄 Many churches help people daily without even announcing it or asking for a single kobo in donations; I can list a long "record" if you want. This case is simple: It’s like asking someone for an IOU, and because you see the person is "loaded," you start demanding double. If that brother wanted 100% accountability and public auditing, why didn't he open a GoFundMe for himself? Tomorrow, another person will still come to the same church for help. Do you expect members to empty their pockets every single time? If na you, shey you go fit donate your last kobo every Sunday? This isn't even about "Church" matters; it’s about simple appreciation. If the Pastor didn't want to help, he would have ignored him, and the brother would have just complained and moved to another church. Nothing fit happen! 🚶♂️ Sometimes, communication and a little gratitude go a long way. The truth is, NOBODY OWES YOU ANYTHING in this life. > The earlier people realize this and kill that entitlement mentality, the better for their future. Having that mindset alone will go a long way in helping you succeed. Pure facts. 💯 |

The first commenter asked a very important/wise question. If the money contributed didn't get to the amount needed for the hospital bill I'm 100% sure the greedy pastor wouldn't have added to it from the church account. That's even if they have church account in the first place. Church account is just scam, na dem still dey flex the money. The pastor should have given the total money contributed to the family, hospital bill is not the only thing they would need money for.....He would need money to sustain himself after recovery. |

Bahamas95:Stop capping. This is pure fallacy! 🙄 How many churches do you actually know? Let me list just three that I know for a fact have solid welfare systems: RCCG, Winners, and Christ Embassy. > These missions pay scholarships and feed thousands daily without even coming to the pulpit to beg for donations. Mind you, I’m not even a "church-goer" anymore, but I speak facts when I see them. Secondly, unless you are attending a "one-man-business" roadside church, no Pastor has direct access to the treasury. These big churches have Boards of Trustees, Treasurers, and Auditors. It’s not a "withdraw-as-you-like" system. Also, why do you people assume every Pastor is an illiterate? Many of them are Professionals—Doctors, Senior Advocates, and Engineers. Do you honestly think someone like Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (a former VP and Senior Advocate) needs your "peanuts" from the offering basket to survive? 🤡 Many of these men are only "Pastors" on Sundays. During the week, they are in their offices or running businesses. Some even earn less than 200k from the church, and some are even subsidizing the church from their own pockets! Wash that dirty mindset. Not every Pastor driving a car is "thieving" church money. Some people actually worked for their wealth before the "Call." 🚶♂️🚶♂️🚶♂️ |
| Re: Who Do You Think Is Right In This Situation? by Natbrowny: 10:26am On Feb 18 |
The church used the brothers name to get donations Irrespective of the outcome of the donations, either exact, surplus or less. The brother in whose name was used to rake funds should get the funds. |
| Re: Who Do You Think Is Right In This Situation? by Nobody: 10:38am On Feb 18 |
Natbrowny:Make we use our heads small. If a member comes today for medical bills and the church raises money, and then next week Sunday another person comes with "house rent" issue... do you expect the church to ask members to donate again? 😳 Abeg, if na you, shey you go even show up for church the upper Sunday? You go run go another church because you no fit turn "ATM" for everybody! Also, we have to be careful because once people see that it’s easy to get money this way, others will start using it as a format to dodge their responsibilities. It will only breed a lazy and entitled congregation where everyone believes the church is their personal bank. That brother was simply used as an ambassador—a point of contact to reach out to others. There is zero guarantee that the money even touches the Pastor's pocket. If he wants 100% "public auditing," make he go open GoFundMe for himself; it's free! If the church starts demanding special donations every Sunday to satisfy every request, na the same people go still come online cry say Pastor dey milk members. The truth is: Nothing wey church fit do wey go satisfy people. If you help, na problem. If you no help, na problem. Entitlement is a disease! 🤦♂️💯 |

SpencerForbes:You are a liar. The only thing I know winners chapel does is provide platforms for job opportunities. I have been a strong member of winners and got baptized there, went through all the classes, played a major role in building one of the provincial HQ back in 2007/08 so I know a lot about the system and how it works not looking from outside in. RCCG too I know it in and out as it has been my church since I relocated to lagos and also baptized there again cos they requested it from me. They don't help shiiiii... Now to the topic at hand. A brother needed help, the pastor did the right thing by making it known to the members to help a brother in need. There was surplus and he kept it for himself... That is a huge error! Why was there a donation? For what cause exactly? From the story the cause was to assist a sick brethren, a member of his flock. There was a surplus I used to be a strong believer and not just a church goer even now I'm being disturbed by certain pastors to come for my certifications... They want me to be a pastor (fortunately for me I have found the truth or my truth and it has nothing to do with a human construct to control and manipulate the gullible). Now the surplus from the donation to the cause is not to be diverted. Why? for one, the one who "called" the pastor knows better and probably is providing in advance for the said brother who is sick as situations might arise needing urgency, so instead of soliciting for funds again just hold on and use what you have but greed which is part of human nature took over the pulpit master and he decided to play God on the matter. Church goers believe in miracles from their God above in heaven. Now imagine a brother or sister prays to God for help and he gave it exceedingly abundantly as promised in the book. Can you imagine God taking some back for himself because this person has gotten too much blessings? So he says let me take some back cos she has gotten more than she needs. God never makes mistakes that's what I have been taught long time ago and if the pastor is genuine he would know better than to even divert that money for whatever reason. What happened is greed, covetousness, love for money, disobedience and wickedness all combined. Except the pastor is not genuine his conscience definitely disagreed with his actions but greed took control. Back then I used to say in certain situations that were confusing... What would Jesus have done in this situation I'm faced with? The pastor obviously isn't a follower of Christ but a con man in cloak |

Freshtruth:No you and the pastor are crooks. The cause for the donation was for the sick man. When Elisha prayed for that widow who was in huge debt and at a point of losing her sons to the creditor what happened He prayed and the cans were filled with oil even more than she needed. Did Elisha demand the remaining ones to be given to him? Did he take it to save another or to use it for himself? You gullible followers don't even know the God you claim to serve you rather worship those liars in cloaks and designers suits. You claim to worship God but know him not. You are lost! Read your bible at least to journey well the journey you have decided for yourself instead of allowing a man like you to deceive you!Wake d F up!!! |

kiddaz:Oga, what you’re typing is pure rubbish 💯. I grew up in an RCCG parish in Ikeja and I’m a direct beneficiary—they’ve paid our rent twice just because of house fellowship and they even give scholarships. This is first-hand info, not "outside knowledge" or hearsay. 😜😜😜 Have you ever even attended a church congress or year-end meeting? I’ve been a youth leader, choir director, and Sunday school teacher. If you see where they are doing the breakdown of Profit and Loss, you go tire. The process is tedious and transparent. Let me burst your bubble on how the likes of Adeboye make their money so you can stop all this "yarns." Church money goes to church upkeep and member welfare. If the drums or sound system spoil, is it not money they will use to fix it? No be magic. I can guarantee you that funds enter Adeboye’s personal account every hour because members appreciate him when his prayers work for them. Should he deposit his personal gifts into the church account too? Any church asking you to "be a pastor" like that must be a small local one. Good for you that you’ve left. A church that can raise 900k is not small, and no pastor runs that alone without a Treasurer. Even Oyedepo gives account—or you think Winners doesn't have a Treasurer? Abeg, what is his job then? Una funny I swear! |

kiddaz:Was Elisha a pastor? Thank God say you no later become pastor. A pastor is a shepherd. To engage you Dey tire human being. Abeg mention where Elisha was soliciting for people to dash someone money. Did you know how Peter and the apostle spent the money they got from Ananias and sapphire? Abeg bring their account logs. Did Elisha ever had a congregation? |

SpencerForbes:Carry on with your business venture I really don't care. All of you claiming church are nothing close to Jesus Christ. Imagine asking if Elisha was a pastor. So he needs to be a pastor to justify diverting money? I know how the church finances work especially in those major big churches you mentioned. It's the reason the poor keeps getting poorer and keep shouting hallelujah while the MOGs fly around in PJ's. Same reason only the rich can afford the schools they build. I'm not here to argue about your church leaders bro. I'm only pointing out that they're nothing like Jesus Christ and that is 💯🤣🤣🤣🤣 |

kiddaz:Divert which funds? You don’t even understand the Five-fold Ministry, yet you’re here dreaming of becoming a pastor? 🥺 You don’t know the difference between an Evangelist and a Pastor, Mtcheew. Some of you have this warped mentality that a Pastor must wear rags and look hungry before you call him a "Man of God." Pure nonsense! 😤 You’ve forgotten that Pastor Chris Okotie has been a billionaire/presidential candidate for years. Pastor Yemi Osinbajo was our VP, and Pastor Umo Eno is a sitting Governor. These men have their own pedigree! Yes, a few bad eggs might divert funds, but this lazy stereotype that "Pastor has a car = Pastor is a thief" is a lie from the pit of hell. The only thing I’ll agree with is that they are talented at "mobilizing" members to contribute for personal needs—but direct siphoning of church money? It’s not as easy as your mind thinks. You’re not the one buying drumsticks or maintaining instruments, yet you’re shouting "Accountability!" 😏 If the church wasn’t there to help, wouldn't you have found another way to survive? And let’s be real: How can a young man need 210k for hospital bills and he can't even provide a common 30k for his own treatment? Unless it’s a chronic, long-term illness, he has no right to complain. He’s just a lazy Christian looking for who to blame for his poverty. He’s also a fraudster for trying to use church money to enrich himself and he’s also using his sickness as a format. He should be restricted because if he gets used to it, he’ll be moving from church to church claiming sick because he wants to build a house. 😤 🚶♂️🚶♂️🚶♂️ |
| Re: Who Do You Think Is Right In This Situation? by kiddaz: 2:05pm On Feb 18 |
SpencerForbes:Okay I see you have comprehension problems. First of I have never dreamt of becoming a pastor talk more dreaming? I know what an evangelist is and what a pastor is. You are just myopic. Like I said earlier, I'm not interested in your worldly titles or what you do with it. My only interest is the spirit within and in this case it's not the same as Jesus's simple! Secondly nowhere did I mention a pastor to e miserable or look beggarly. All that is in your head and you need to get out of there urgently. A lot of pastors are earning a living outside the ministry and that should be encouraged without which is a recipe for disaster and frustration which can be a playground for all manner of temptations. Again you keep dwelling on church administration like it's new. Being on earth alone requires money and the church is not exempted. I still maintain that the cause for which the funds were raised should be the only focus where the money is driven towards and your closing remark is baseless here. The Op mentioned him being a member and not some beggar going from church to church seeking help. Like God all I am concerned with is the spirit in you, nothing else matters...Now in your quiet time meditate on 2Corinthians 8 and 9. Not read but meditate on Paul's teaching and you will realize the spirit in you and those men you so worship is just the common spirit of Mammon. Enjoy your day |

kiddaz:Oga, I thought you said a church was calling you to be a pastor, or was that another person entirely? 🧐 So, you mean helping others wasn't the whole point of why that money was raised? Shouldn’t the man be happy and grateful that the funds raised were enough to even cover other needs? I still maintain that the man is a thief! The only time he has a right to demand "transparency" is if he has solid evidence that the pastor diverted that money for personal use. But if the money was used for church projects or the welfare of others, then that man is just a greedy, big-time thief. As long as the money is still being used to help people, it has served its purpose. Period. Stop encouraging this nonsense entitlement mentality. It’s irritating. 😤 |

But the members knew only 210k was needed but decided to donate more. So why does the pastor think the man doesn't deserve more? 🚶♂️🚶♂️🚶♂️[/quote] |
| Re: Who Do You Think Is Right In This Situation? by Nobody: 8:53am On Feb 20 |
Terenceike:Let me simplify it for you. Imagine you get a job with a 200k salary. Later, you realize the company is actually making 400k profit from your daily "hustle" and input. Will you foolishly demand the entire 400k, or will you simply negotiate for a raise? If you cannot even demand the "full money" from a secular company where you are toiling and sweating daily, why do you think you have the right to claim everything from the Church where your input is minimal? If the Church had refused to give him anything, would he have starved to death? He would have survived. If it was that easy to get money, why didn't he go from house to house begging members for 50k to see if anyone would even look at his face? He used the Church's platform to get what he has, so why the sudden sense of entitlement? |
