Oando of 20years ago was a downstream retail company and it paid good dividends until around 2011 or so. And it was selling at relatively higher prices than now.
But the currently upstream company has been facing some challenges. That is the context of my comment.

It’s unfortunate I don’t play one-stock politics anymore. I now trade the entire insurance space using the Loco Insurance Index framework, not emotions.

One thing I must point out in your post — Royal Exchange Plc had a very strong technical support at ₦1.80. That was a clear structure level. It tested that zone, respected it, and bounced. That’s not weakness — that’s demand absorption.

I was fortunate to accumulate close to 1 million units at ₦1.81 when fear was high and volume confirmed support. In this market, opportunities show up briefly — if you understand structure and volume, you don’t hesitate.

Also, let’s be realistic — when Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc is showing sustained strength and momentum northward, it’s a sector signal. Insurance stocks move in rotation waves. Capital doesn’t flow into one counter in isolation for long.

Some names in the sector are clearly ripe for accumulation right now. The smart play is not sentiment — it’s alignment with structure, sector volume, and momentum confirmation.

Follow the updates. Align with strength. Accumulate wisely.
I will buy 1 million units tomorrow if it goes below 1.8.

Loco you know some of these insurance companies will definitely not be able to recapitalize. What if I buy Royalex and the company doesn't make it and close shop?

But the better question is: how likely is it, and under what condition?

Royalex closed today at ₦1.90 which means it finished near the upper side of the day’s range. For it to drop straight back to ₦1.80 the next session, one of these must happen:

- Broad sector weakness (insurance index opens red with pressure).
- Heavy early sell volume hitting the bid aggressively.
- No follow-through buyers above ₦1.90.

Now, technically speaking:

- ₦1.90 becomes immediate short-term support.
- ₦1.95–₦2.00 becomes the next upside test zone.
- ₦1.80 remains the major demand base.

If the stock opens weak and loses ₦1.88–₦1.87 with volume, then yes — ₦1.80 can be revisited intraday.

But if it opens firm and holds ₦1.90 with steady demand, a direct drop to ₦1.80 becomes less probable without news or sector-wide selling.

Important mindset:

A strong support that just bounced does not usually get broken the very next day unless distribution is ongoing.

So tomorrow, watch:

That’s a very valid concern — and it’s good you’re thinking risk first.

Yes, recapitalization risk is real in the insurance sector. Not every company will survive. That’s why we analyze structure, balance sheet strength, and management direction — not just price.

On Royal Exchange specifically:

Royal Exchange Plc is not a new or emergency-formed company. It has been in operation for over 100 years and has gone through multiple recapitalization cycles in Nigeria’s insurance history. The company has survived past regulatory capital increases both as a standalone entity and through restructuring and merger phases.

That track record matters.

Historically, weaker firms disappear early. Companies that have institutional history, asset base, and brand continuity tend to find pathways — whether through fresh capital injection, strategic investors, rights issues, or partnerships.

Also, management direction is important. With a new MD in place, the expectation is that strategic corporate actions will follow. Recapitalization plans are not executed overnight — they are structured and phased. Market participants usually get signals before final deadlines.

If merging becomes the order of the day, remember there are several healthy non-listed insurance companies in Nigeria with strong books and clean balance sheets. A well-structured merger with such firms does not automatically mean dilution in a negative sense. In many cases, it strengthens shareholder value — stronger capital base, improved underwriting capacity, better risk retention, expanded market share, and a more solid balance sheet.

Strategic mergers can actually be a plus to existing shareholders when executed properly.

Now my honest opinion:

No stock is zero-risk. But recapitalization does not automatically mean “closure.” It often means restructuring, capital raising, strategic partnerships, or consolidation for strength.

The smarter approach is:

- Monitor official corporate announcements.
- Watch balance sheet strength and shareholder funds.
- Track volume behavior (institions position before news).
- Avoid overexposure — size your risk properly.

If you’re buying, buy because structure and sector momentum support it — not blindly because of history. But history plus ongoing corporate direction reduces the probability of sudden collapse.

In markets, we don’t remove risk — we manage it.

For long-term shareholders who understand sector cycles, recapitalization can be a period of repositioning — not panic.

Position wisely. Stay informed. Think strength, not fear.

It is wrong and bad for the SW because the govt itself is struggling and people are complaining bitterly about hardship in the country.

It was not wrong when Muslim/Muslim ticket became leaders of a country with Muslim, Christian and traditionalists. if we didn't complain then we should let this one too slide o grin

Dangote Sugar 2025 FS

ositadima1:
Two things, in my limited understanding, would make Dangote Sugar attractive again (for now until plantation mature): if the exchange rate falls to around ₦1,100 or lower, and if interest rates drop to about 10% or below.

We’ve seen this kind of accumulation before, only for the momentum to get crushed back to ₦60 or even lower. Dangote Sugar has a reputation for keeping its results under wraps until the official announcement, so don’t be surprised if the current rally is driven more by hope, and by the strong performance of other Dangote businesses than by hard numbers.
Unfortunately, another prediction has materialized, I told you guys.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ositadima1(m): 3:43am On Mar 04
I don’t see a merger happening anytime soon, at least not until there is some level of stability in Dangote Sugar. How do you merge a loss-making company with a profitable one? For it to work, it would severely reduce the value and proportion of Dangote Sugar.

There are improvement in key areas similar to NASCON.
With current exchange & interest rates, FY26 will definitely be in profit regardless of 'plantation maturity'... smiley

I think u should strip the results quarter by quarter, you should find that Q4 was worse than Q3. Results have been galloping. If the performance was improving, they should have been out of the woods now seeing what the 8 months report was. But they sank deeper. It's hard to predict the direction.
