VERY BAD NEWS ALERT!!!

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite.

This was disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Onanuga also said Uzoka-Anite will now move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, as the Minister of State, her third portfolio in the administration.

The statement said, President Tinubu has today conveyed the nomination of Oyedele to the Senate for confirmation in a letter to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Until President Tinubu nominated him as a minister, Oyedele from Ikaram, Akoko, Ondo State, was the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.

Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant and public policy expert.

He attended Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in accountancy and finance. He attended Oxford Brookes University and earned a BSc in applied accounting.

He also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Oyedele spent 22 years of his working career at PwC, joining in 2001 and rising to become the Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

Oyedele is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

VeritasKap
Strengths
1. Has a new CEO/MD, a no-nonsense career chief who understands the sector
2. The 2025 statement is looking good with a lot more prudent management and an increase in the investment portfolio. The negative earnings have turned green
3. Earnings 2025 EPS is 0.93 but I consider it even more remarkable coming from a negative 0.57. In other words a move of 0.57 +0.93 =1.50. Compared well to that of Mutual Benefit Assurance
4. Q4 earnings stand alone is 0.42 profit at Q4 was 2,925,972,000 compared to the 2025 UF year of 6,459,407,000 a remarkable surge when compared
5. Common sense strategy is based on an average PE range of 4 and 5 and when the multiples are far outstretched, on the sector’s average PE multiple or the company's PE multiple whichever is lower. Earnings must however be organic or with a high probability of repeat occurrence
6. Veritaskap’s calculations were based on the Q4 earnings and the strength of the new management against the background of Insurance sector reforms.

You may wish to refer to some of my past posts for deeper insight.

Let's see what the Q1 2026 results would come up as: then we can recalculate and restrategize.

I own VeritasKap. But kindly do your research before you jump in.

Loco Insurance Radar (LIR) – Market Closed Edition
March 4, 2026

NGX Insurance Index: 1,364.84 (+0.33%)

The sector remains inside the 1,350–1,380 accumulation corridor, gradually building pressure.
The 1,400 level remains the key breakout trigger for a broader insurance sector rally.

Insurance Sector Activity
Total Volume: ~217M shares

Sector participation remains healthy with liquidity concentrated in a few recapitalization candidates.

• Veritas Kapital — 56.4M shares
• Universal Insurance — 48.3M shares
• Sovereign Trust Insurance — 21.3M shares
• Linkage Assurance — 15.6M shares

These stocks are currently driving sector liquidity.

Structure Levels (Loco Framework)

Support: 1,350
Major Support / Bullish Invalidation: 1,300
Resistance: 1,380
Breakout Level: 1,400

Loco’s Tactical Conclusion

The NGX Insurance sector continues quiet accumulation below the 1,400 breakout level. Liquidity remains active in several recapitalization candidates while the index maintains a stable structure within the 1,350–1,380 corridor.

A confirmed breakout above 1,400 could trigger a broad recapitalization rally across insurance stocks.

However, a breakdown below 1,300 would invalidate the current bullish structure.

FTGINSURE
Linkage Assurance

These stocks currently show the strongest activity inside the insurance sector.

--------------------------------------------------

LOCO’S TACTICAL CONCLUSION

The insurance sector continues to quietly build pressure below the 1,400 breakout level.

Although breadth was mixed today, volume activity across multiple insurance stocks indicates that accumulation remains ongoing.

A confirmed breakout above 1,400 with strong sector participation could trigger a broader insurance rally.

Bullish Thesis Invalidation Level:
If the NGX Insurance Index falls below 1,300, the bullish structure becomes invalid.

It’s a possibility, but even in that case, I believe the stockbroker KYC verification and the registrar record should still provide basic leads to reveal the identity of the owner(s). The broker KYC process would’ve requested the directors’ details and identification documents.

About STACO Insurance Plc

Many people have recently started asking about STACO Insurance Plc, but traders should understand the real situation of the company before expecting any market activity.

STACO has not posted financial results to the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) for about 5–6 years in the past, which created serious regulatory and transparency concerns.

Recently, the company has started submitting some financial results again, but it still owes the market about two or three years of outstanding financial statements.

Until all outstanding financial results are released and fully updated, the stock will not attract normal trading activity on the exchange.

This is one of the major reasons the stock has very low liquidity and limited investor participation.

Some traders are discussing STACO again because of what is currently happening with Fortis Global Insurance Plc, where restructuring activities have started attracting attention in the insurance sector.

However, for STACO to attract real market interest, the company will likely need to:

• Clear all outstanding financial statements
• Restructure its operations and capital structure
• Regain full regulatory compliance
• Restore investor confidence

Only after these issues are resolved will traders likely see active trading return to the stock.

For now, most market activity in the insurance sector remains concentrated in stocks like Custodian, NEM Insurance, AXA Mansard, Mutual Benefits, Sovereign Trust, Veritas Kapital and Royal Exchange where liquidity and participation are stronger.

The CBN is concerned about too fast a pace for the appreciation. I learnt they were net takers from the market last week. Almost $200m they bought off sellers, they themselves not having to sell any dollars to the market. They bought off people to avoid too rapid movement.

If you were an FPI that brought in $1bn at N1500, should the currency move too rapidly to N1250, you have a 20% incentive to sell off your debt and have your original N1.5 trn capital now buy as much as $1.2bn worth of cheap dollars.

If all FPIs ran that maths, the demand would be too crazy for the CBN to match, so steady gains are preferred.

I still expect 1200 to 1260 by Q2.
I actually want that. I guess most of us naira earners do.
