Better the devil you know. Let's consolidate whatever is good of the current government. All these other guys are just opportunist desparados who will bring new uncertainties.
That is one of the advantages of long rule by an individual; it brings certainty and continuity. And this where the Chinese government beats the USA outrightly.

And the dividends are sent to the same bank account?
unite4real:
I have never filled this mandate forms. I have never missed any dividend in all of about 20 stocks in my portfolios.
I guess brokers have ways of linking this to the registrars. It can only be a concern to me the moment I have a new stock and dividend is not paid.

Globally, Buhari should be amongst the worst peacetime leaders of all time. The man is one of the main reasons why Nigeria is still a third world country.
It’s not necessarily Buhari. The man himself is a patriot who did what he could but his ideology is similar to that of Yaradua (who many Nigerians love today), Kwankwanso, Sowore and most Nigerians. He is a social welfarist and like all ideologies (including capitalism), it has its pros and cons (tradeoffs).

The man is a daft who thought he was a genius. I still remember a TV interview he did when he said he wasn't convinced as to why we needed to devalue (Naira was about N250/$1). Or paying ransom for the Chibok girls which has led to kidnapping being a business.

A leader's job is to appoint advisers and to listen to that advise. Buhari truly believed he had the solution to Nigeria's problems. Patriotism has nothing to do with leadership ability.

Anyway make I no vex this morning

Bros buhari failed. First mistake was allowing his tribesmen to take full control of his government infact that was the Genesis of the damage. Someone who didn't read documents before signing as long as it came from his tribesmen.

On the late naira devaluation of 2015/2016, I think it was based on his past experience.

When Babangida took over in 1986, he immediately devalued the naira in order to liberalise FX and prevent scarcity of imported items which led to queues in the Buhari era (both Shagari and Buhari had refused to devalue Naira despite fiscal crises from low oil prices since 1981).

Buhari and my parents saw first hand how the naira never looked back since that Babangida devaluation and they learnt the wrong lessons from it. That Naira devaluation itself by Babangida (or any president) is the problem rather than the symptom.
They failed to learn that when you don’t devalue on time based on the macroeconomic realities and you suppress a currency for long (leading to wide black market rates), the aftermath of the devaluation after the suppression usually becomes disastrous.

The key is to find a balance and manage the float.

You may be amongst the lucky 1%.
There are very many instances where you buy shares through your stockbroker and not only are you exempted from the dividend but will have to go through the rigours and the process of the dividend form especially at the banks.

If they try it in this nse largely dominated by insider manipulations, a lot of ordinary folks who rely on self research and instincts for their market activities will become penniless in a matter of hours.

Please if you don't mind sharing, which stockbroker do you use and do you have to notify or remind them when dividend is due for payment? What about bonus shares? Do you have to do anything or it's credited automatically?

This thing is not rocket science. As long as we keep increasing money supply without a commensurate increase in productivity or USD inflows, we will always have to devalue. The solution is a long-term fix to how we finance deficits, and also ensuring we legally and significantly reduce the tendency of printing money.

FACT. If this government loses the next election I would reconsider my continued participation in NGX.
Same, if the current guys were to be fired at the next election. I'm getting out of the NGX.
I don't want populist weak leaders that will return subsidy or force naira appreciation.
