![]() When I was still a kid,I used to dream of myself following the footsteps of my father, who's a retired army officer . I remember how many essays I wrote back then, especially when it was "what would you like to be in the future?". I wouldn't think twice before writing all about being a "soldier". As a matter of fact,I used to see myself, enlisting into the Nigerian army, getting married to a female soldier and spending the rest of my life in the barracks I really thought of following that path , just to make my old man proud. But the moment I grew my first beards, that was when I realized that some dreams should never be thought of being actualized. I could remember my old man talking to one of his influential colleague in the army,if he could enlist us in. I mean,my elder bro and I . Unfortunately,,the boko Haram saga sprung up and I got numerous reasons to say to my childhood dream--"Hey you,get lost" And guess what,I don't regret dishing that dream of mine, cuz if I had followed that line, who knows? Perhaps my graveyard coulda grown lots of unwanted flowers beside it by now ![]() |

I have seen where father MWO saluted his Major General Son. Elderly brother did likewise do his younger brother. Abakpa, Akim, Mokola, Dodan, Rukuba were my found memories. Well, one of the beauty of the regimented life in the military is the issue of salutation or paying compliments irrespective of what is the divide; relationship, age bracket, geographical background, faith/belief system etc. |

If u have never served in the war front, you are never a complete soldier. Most of these people spend all their lives in d barrack cos they gat papa at the top. No field experience yet they are promoted regularly at the expense of those risking their lives to protect our country. |

Nigeria military is dwelling on past glory. The politicians have turned them into their puppets. They sacrifice them to their terrorist pets on daily basis by not giving them enough fighting equipment and instructing their commanders to tell their boys not to shoot terrorists. Even the captured terrorists are being pardoned and offered free job into the army or reintegrated back into the community depending on the choice of the pardoned criminals. South East youths are wiser now and no parent or guardian in the East will allow his child enlist in the military. That's the reason the army is decrying low turn-out in the East. |

Sonnobax15:Hmmmm, No matter how we cherish some of our dreams : we might be left with only an option abandoning it for something else, I use to dream of becoming a goalkeeper, I had the talent and always opportuned to participate in school competition, even I'm always quickly been noticed on the pitch cause I perform well, But there was a day my defender got his ankle broken , I havent seen such in my life, the trauma hit me so hard that I never dare to even play monkey post again in my life , Maybe probably if it would be a big game where all health insurances are available then I can reconsider but how do one even get to play for big teams without coming from locals, Mehn |

Racoon:Kings have given birth to criminals and freaks. Prince Andrew has been stripped off every royal duties in UK after the Epstien files were released with pictures. In Nigeria the barracks, from police to the military produce some of the most hardened criminals the nation had ever seen. There's no misjudgment, no stereotype, just plain truth. |

I spent most of my years in the barrack but I dodged being a soldier. I could have joined since 2001 and the reason I couldn't join , I am yet to actualize it to this moment.. |

Sonnobax15:You were not driven by passion. All you had was a childhood fantasy. Good a thing you renegade when discovered you were not built for the military. |

Nigeria army living in past glory .. Gone are those days people wear army uniform with so much pride.. Now politicians and politics have entered the once glorious army. Boko Haram rag tag army now attack and kill generals in the battle front. Something that's on heard of before. Wishing my nephew that have been in the north east for over three years now safe return |

I saw 3 Soldiers trying to beat up a civilian bike dispatch guy and I parked my car and went straight to the soldiers and apologise unbehalf of the bike guy. The guys in my cars were scared when I stopped to go beg for the bike guy. I told them I was a barrack boy and I know how to approach military men. They sha beat the guy small but left him because I intervene.😆😆😆 If not for my barrack upbringing, fear for no gree me near them. |
