@Ppogba, the government appears to be testing the citizens with this solar permit. There is a strong possibility that it is being piloted within Lagos State–owned estates. It may only be a matter of time before it becomes a legislative issue and a formal solar permit requirement is introduced for all homes seeking solar installations in the state.
Remember, you now need a permit before you can drill a borehole in Lagos State. It started as a rumor, but today it is an offense to dig a borehole in Lagos without a permit.

ppogba:
Someone as enlightened as you are should also have heard that the solar panel tax is to be imposed on residents in Lagos Government owned housing estates and not state wide. It only makes common sense that if one is affected, all you need do is simply pack out. It is always unfortunate when people that are presumed to be knowledgeable join the bandwagon of misinformation.

I learnt most, if not all of the Estate houses are individual owned, NOT Lagos state owned. They are not tenants but landlords within the estate. So the idea of "pack out" doesn't simply cut it.. Lagos State is probably acting as facility manager of shared resources, amenities and spaces within the estate.

No reasonable tenant will be foolish enough to go as far as mounting huge solar installations in a building that isn't his/hers. Such persons are usually the owners of the apartments within the estate.

Also, it doesn't matter whether it's a tenant or landlord or Lagos State Govt.
The context of his narration centered on gradual spread of such policy across Nigeria which is still a valid perspective.

So try tone down on indirectly calling one unenlightened or unknowledgeable cuz you seem to just indirectly also joined the "bandwagon of misinformation". wink
Let's try correct and move on.

Don't be surprised if the permit will have to be renewed every year

Though the government defended itself saying its only for occupying shared spaces.

Meaning the landlords within the estate are encroaching a space that isn't exclusively theirs and thus violating structural and environmental considerations of the estate design.

Though this your perspective is plausible. Na from clap 👏 dance 💃 dey Start.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Mankind2024: 7:51am On Apr 26
it will most likely be an annual charge, although it could eventually become monthly. Between 2023 and 2025, Lagos State explored the idea of introducing monthly rent payments between tenants and landlords, which suggests a broader policy direction toward recurring monthly obligations. This could serve as a precedent.
A friend in the United States once mentioned that he pays monthly charges covering property-related rates, electricity, gas, and water. Lagos State may be attempting to adopt a similar framework. In the same vein, Taiwo Oyedele’s tax reforms reflect the importation of elements of European-style tax administration into Nigeria.
However, unlike these potential monthly charges, the standard vehicle disc remains a yearly payment. Ultimately, the government’s push for new revenue streams is tied to fiscal pressures—Nigeria’s debt obligations must be serviced, or the country risks facing economic instability similar to what has been seen in countries like Bangladesh and Argentina.

Lesson learnt : Always be wary of results that are delayed, whether by CBN or the company itself. If a company result is fantastic they will rush to publish the result, but if a result is bad they will find a way to delay it under any guise.

@Pa Emmanuel, your portfolio is strong and well positioned to withstand local shocks. You’ve clearly mastered the NGX. However, there is an important and almost sacrosanct need to pursue geographic diversification — for example, by adding exposure to the S&P 500 or NASDAQ100 or BRK.B.
If you review the naira outlook in the newly released UBA Plc 2025 report, the 2026–2028 stress test projections place the worst-case scenario around ₦1,800/$ and the best case near ₦1,600/$. This suggests that, given Nigeria’s heavy debt burden, the current exchange rate could still face further pressure, with the possibility of additional devaluation, particularly in the post-election period.

How do you participate in a RI that priced higher than the market ? Throughout the period of the RI the market price was lower. It makes no common sense buying a product higher when you can get the same product cheaper. There is no economic sense in that. Now, the the stock is destined to a free fall this week. Who becomes the ultimate loser ? In fact, i see this as an opportunity for ACCESSCORP to play catch-up ( that is if they can just manage to pay at least N2.00k dividend). I am highly disappointed with UBA's result angry
. ACCESSCORP to rally to 45 and UBA to dip to 40

I can't be everywhere. Sold Seplat at around N7000 to buy Aradel.

Seplat is fond of giving shares to the workers thereby increasing the outstanding shares on an annual basis

I prefer a situation whereby the workers are paid very well and interested worker can use their salaries to buy the company's shares

Good morning, sir and to all the chiefs in the house.

I'm currently invested with equity mutual funds but I've been following this thread for a while now.

I think I want to begin to test the waters here. I currently have 700k i'm willing to use for this purpose, please what stocks (both growth and value) would you advice if you were starting out at this time and how would you diversify?

Thanks in anticipation.
