By their branded standard, isn't it more dignifying not paying dividend at all like UBA than paying 10kobo and still collect bashing? grin

Anyway for access, they promised to pay before CBN hammer. They may just want to keep to the promise no matter the tesere amount approved by CBN(if at all) .. grin

Those who want to sell VFD at below 10 naira, I'll be available tomorrow from 1.30pm Nigeria time

The ratio is 2 for every 3 held. The cost is 60naira per share which is wonderful given the current price of Dangsugar on the exchange. The qualification date has already passed (20/04/2026). They are giving the RI at a huge discount which is why I am surprised none is talking about it.

They are doing the RI at N60 while the stock sells at N72 on the floor of the exchange. That is about N12 (20%) discount.
Thank you for the info
I might pick up my right issue or sell it if demand is high cos I have 1 million unit

Look well, their equity and debt instruments have been revalued upward, this has nothing to do with today’s rush by retail traders to sell UBA. grin grin grin
My thinking is that this revaluation does not yield cash flow until these instruments are disposed of. If my thinking is correct, then it means the EPS is cushioned by an items that aren't really income. The statement of cash flow also shows that the results are flat at best.

That is what I think, but I'd like to understand why you consider this a good result.

UCAP seems to be in the phase that can be likened to "diminishing returns". This does not mean that the company is not profitable, but that earnings growth has slowed very significantly if there is growth at all.

Price will stabilise once buyers show up.

These gains are indeed unrealized, but you’re missing something important. There are two types of fair value gains here: FVTPL (₦3.5 billion) and FVTOCI (₦19.9 billion). Only the FVTPL is included in EPS because it represents trading (income statement) gains, while the FVTOCI is not and relates relates to long-term investments.

For Q1, I think it’s still early to meaningfully assess cash flow trends, but, most important, there is clear growth in operating revenue and an expansion in fee income.

Then, the ₦19.9 billion FVTOCI gain comes from equity appreciation in Q1. Isn’t that significant, given that this is part of their core business as an asset management firm?

Me and you (if you hold long-term investments) have enjoyed capital appreciation in the stock market. Some guy celebrated his one-billion-naira milestone in the market few days ago, is that not value, even though it’s not realized? Why is it now mere paper profit for UCAP but a source of pride for you and me when we see those huge gains? grin grin grin

If it goes higher, yes! We celebrate. The same goes when it heads south — we become saddened (Apparently, people don't post this part)

Until it is booked, it remains paper and should still be treated as paper. It should not be confused with profits.

well done bro but your analysis on champions breweries Q1 is not correct.

The eps they posted is wrong. should be approximately 6kobo and not 59kobo.

Total outstanding shares is 11.2 billion units and the profit after tax attributed to owners of company is N664.4 million.

Do the maths please.

The report they posted that eps is 59 kobo is confusing and a direct error from them

When FVOCI is negative, it becomes a significant part of the company’s books, but when it is positive, you want to wave it away as paper profit, lol.

ETI actually did well across the board, remember, FVOCI is not yet realized.

The reality is... equity investments are risky
equity investments in emerging and frontier markets, even riskier

So if you want a high risk adjusted returns. you have to deal with the risk
Dealing with the risk in equity investments is the reason why there is a +/-10% limit on daily movement in price.
It is a way to reduce volatility (risk).

What you saw is Other Comprehensive Income (OCI). I think it is not the same thing as operational loss. The bank made $142.5 million profit after tax this quarter, up 16% from last year. Profit is profit. 11% grew 11% yoy
What dragged the comprehensive income down is forex translation loss — meaning when they converted their operations across 39 African countries back to USD, the naira and other currencies weakened against dollar, so the numbers looked bad on paper. E no mean money lost.
