Today, I accepted the nomination of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 Lagos Governorship Election with deep gratitude.

I am truly humbled by this honour and I thank Almighty Allah, our party leaders, and every member who has placed their trust in me.

My journey started in Mushin, shaped by hard work, service, and the belief that government must improve the lives of ordinary people. Over the last two decades, I have had the privilege of serving Lagos in different capacities alongside exceptional leaders who laid the foundation for the progress our state enjoys today.

I have seen firsthand that governance is not easy but I have also seen what is possible when leadership is guided by vision, courage, and a genuine commitment to the people. As Deputy Governor, I understand that keeping a megacity running requires careful planning, experience, and steady leadership.

My decision to run comes from one simple question: how do we build a Lagos that works better for everyone? I am running to serve all Lagosians. Whether you are a fisherman in Badagry, a trader in Mile 12, a mechanic in Yaba or a corporate executive in Victoria Island, this government will work for you.

We must continue to invest in transportation, jobs, education, healthcare, security, and opportunities that give people hope and dignity. We must build a Lagos where no one is left behind and where every child can dream beyond the circumstances they were born into.

I am proud of what we have achieved as a state, but I am even more excited about what lies ahead.

I thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Her Excellency First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governance Advisory Council and our dedicated party members across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs for their support and belief in this journey.

A special thank you to my wife, Oluremi, and our children for their unwavering support and sacrifice.

The stakes in 2027 are high but with your partnership, we will keep Lagos moving forward and continue building a future we can all be proud of.

Thank you for your trust, your prayers, and your support. I do not take any of it for granted.

How did his skills take the back seat when he implemented and achieved all of these

1 - Digital Transformation and E-Governance in Lagos state.

Lagos state was the first government in Africa to implement 11 modules of Oracle ERP.

What is Oracle ERP? It is a comprehensive suite of business management software developed by Oracle Corporation to help organizations integrate and automate core processes across departments, providing a single, centralized system for managing day-to-day operations.

It cut across finance, accounting, procurement, human resources (HR), supply chain, manufacturing, project management, and more all on one unified platform.

Who made it happen? Hamzat!

2 - Hamzat digitised payrolls and records across all MDA in Lagos, removing ghost workers from the system and saving public funds while improving accountability.

3 - During Fashola’s time he was in charge of works. He oversaw the construction of Nigeria’s first cable-bridge, the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge.

4 - He essentially facilitated and supervised the completion of Lagos state 1st modern rail - The blue line.

Another post from April 19th.

This is from my memory of two very old interviews. My memory isn't 100% (because the interviews took place a long time ago) and I remember Hamzat's interview better than I remember Tinubu's interview.

Dr Obafemi Hamzat granted an interview to a radio station just after he became deputy governor. That's when a confusion in my head was cleared up.

They asked him questions about everything imaginable. I remember that they also focused on flooding, because it was the Rainy Season. Dr Hamzat told them what he did to fight flooding during the Fashola Era (remember that he was commissioner of works and he was involved in designing the drainages). He spoke very well about the specifics of governance.

He also spoke about how he came to work for the Lagos State Government.

He was head of IT at several major banks in New York and the Lagos State Government was considering adopting several IT systems (payroll management, etc) and he was in his bank's team that met with Governor Bola Tinubu in New York in 2001. After the meeting Tinubu asked him, "Which Hamzat"? Let me explain that question.

Dr Hamzat's father was a lawmaker during the Second Republic (Jakande Era). He was still active in politics during the Third Republic (NRC vs SDP). He was one of the people that convinced Bola Tinubu to leave Mobil and get involved in politics. In fact, he was one of Tinubu's political mentors in the early 1990s. That's why Tinubu asked, "Which Hamzat"?

When he found out who he was, Tinubu put a lot of pressure on Hamzat to return to Lagos and work for him, but Hamzat resisted. He was making a lot of money on Wall Street, why would he leave that and return to Lagos?

Eventually Hamzat realised that, as a foreigner, there was a limit to how high he could rise on Wall Street, so he returned to Nigeria and became head of IT at OANDO.

Tinubu eventually had his way because Hamzat became the commissioner for science and technology in Tinubu's cabinet.

I have previously told you that the payroll system was archaic when Tinubu became governor. Ghost workers cost the government a lot of money. Tinubu was determined to digitalise all their processes and remove ghost workers. He was also determined to automate their payments systems to eliminate leakages. He leveraged on Obafemi Hamzat's experience and connections in the US and on the experience and connections of one of his classmates at Chicago State University (a Nigerian) who worked at Oracle to adopt software to manage their payroll and payment systems. Dr Hamzat oversaw the adoption of the systems.

Dr Hamzat continued as commissioner for science and technology in Governor Fashola's cabinet, then he took over from Rauf Aregbesola as commissioner for works and housing. Many roads and bridges, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and the Okota-Isolo Link Bridge, as well as housing estates (Lagos HOMS) were built during his tenure.

Dr Hamzat followed his boss (Fashola) in 2015 and he became special adviser to the minister of works and housing.

He wanted to become governor in 2019 and he had a lot of support, but he was convinced to step down and support Babajide Sanwo-Olu in exchange for the deputy governorship position.

OK, let me answer that question (you'll have to read to the end to find the answer that you are looking for because it's at the very end).

Some people mockingly refer to deputy governors as "spare tyres". They don't have any role except the role that the governor decides to give them. Most times they merely represent the governor. However, sometimes some governors have given specific roles to their deputies, for example, Princess Sosan was a teacher, so Governor Fashola made her the commissioner for education as well as deputy governor.

Dr Obafemi Hamzat did well every time that he represented Governor Sanwo-Olu, but that's not how I judge him.

Dr Hamzat has previously held government positions in which he had specific roles and that's what I use to judge him.

When he was made deputy governor other people were talking about his previous aspiration to be governor (he had tried to be governor a few times), but I was thinking about his time as commissioner.

That's how I judge him, based on his time as commissioner. I was happy when he was made deputy governor because I remember (I'm starting with the one that's important to me) that it was during his tenure as commissioner for works in the Fashola Government that the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge was built, the Okota - Isolo Link Bridge was built, etc. I remember his interviews back then I was really impressed with him.

Of course he was also commissioner for science and technology in Bola Tinubu's government and he oversaw the adoption of software that eliminated ghost workers and he ensured that all ministries, departments and agencies were digitalised, but it's his time as commissioner for works that impressed me.

They said he won the primaries with 600k plus votes. Yet in the full election last time, sanwo olu won with 500k votes. Y'all are not seeing the plans by these guys to massively rig next years elections

If he eventually wins the general election , he would have broken the jinx to become the first deputy Governor to succeed his boss.
Mr Sanwo Olu seems to learn from his mentor the President and goes a step further. For Obasa , Seyi Tinubu ,Ambode and other top shots to be sidelined shows he's a genius.

All the Obidients who told us GRV was the best thing after sliced bread have now switched to the same Doherty they didn’t support the last time. Do you see a pattern here? The candidate of any party their tribal champion is automatically gets their support, yet they claim they only support individuals, not parties. Very deceitful and hypocritical lot

cry cry baby…….if you had put this much effort and energy in criticising the failure you have all been electing in your deprived and under developed state, maybe your state would have rivalled Lagos as the most developed and economically viable state the country that attracts economic migrants like sugar attract ants grin

Lagos is still the most developed state in the country and a reference point of development and progress which other state are also emulating their development trajectory grin
