“Since I moved to America, I no longer pray for 20 minutes” – Man compares life abroad to Nigeria A Nigerian man has stirred reactions online after sharing how relocating to America changed his perspective on prayer, jobs, and governance. In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he claimed that many of the things people spend hours praying and fasting for in Africa have already been provided through effective systems and government structures in developed countries. “Since I came to America, I no longer pray for 10 minutes, 20 minutes. What am I praying for? The things that I used to pray back home in Africa for God to provide for me, I came to Yankee and saw that the government and the system have already provided those things for people.” According to him, many Africans have been conditioned to pray for basic necessities because governments have failed to provide opportunities and essential services for citizens. He recalled how he used to spend time praying and fasting for employment after graduating from university, only to discover later that many of the jobs people prayed for were either unavailable or reserved for those with political connections. “I could remember when I was back home in Nigeria, those days after I graduated, I would pray 30 minutes, 40 minutes, fasting to get jobs. And I came to Yankee and realized that I was wasting my time back home in Nigeria praying for some things. First of all, we pray to get jobs back home in Africa, and those jobs are not really there.” The man’s comments have continued to spark debate online, with some agreeing with his views on governance and opportunity, while others maintained that prayer remain important regardless of location. One user wrote, “He’s saying the truth. Good governance solves many problems.” Another added, “Prayer is still important no matter where you live.”

When I say many go to church to deceive themselves, Nigerians will quote scriptures to confuse someone. At least he is honest enough to admit it. |

Anybody born in Nigeria that spent all his years in Nigeria deserves to be given a free pass to paradise because he has already passed through his own hell fire in Nigeria. One of the ways Nigeria can get better is to unbundle Nigeria into small countries comprising of people that share the same ethnicity, culture, tradition, religious belief and dialect/language. This will reduce internal friction like tribal division, religious intolerance and ethnic sabotage within the government. It will help Nigerians manage their small nations. The current structure of Nigeria gives room for dangerous tribalism by leaders like can be seen being practiced by President Tinubu today and it will continue to cause dissatisfaction from the other tribes who feel left out. Dividing Nigeria into smaller nations will also make it easier for a typical Nigerian black man to manage and control. This forceful union called Nigeria where some people use tribalism and religious division to cause trouble in Nigeria for their selfish gainst can never allow Nigeria to reach its potentials. Alternatively, Nigeria can be restructured completely and the power vested in Federal government removed and handed over to regions and states. President focuses on external affairs and national security (external threats). Without this, Nigeria will continue to struggle without a headway, sadly |

Some of you think that prayer is all about comfortable life. While Jesus was on earth he prayed a lot. Prayer is a fellowship with God. Scripture says pray without ceasing. Prayer has nothing to do with your need first or your challenges. Prayer should become a character of a Christian. It's a core of your Christian life. |

Many of the things we are praying for here, are not what God will do, but our own government. Buying a car not necessarily needs prayers unto God, if society is good and economy is bouyance. If you work hard, money will come and if you have financial discipline, you will be able to safe to buy car, not even society where they give you the car and encourage you to buy pay it little by little. |

It's obvious that the people you pray for in Nigeria are the demons themselves that's why you need prayer for them.

We have heard this severally from people who have travelled. Please say another thing ![]() Even here too some people don't pray or visit churches but they have everything going on well for them and some still go to church only as a moral duty not that they are foolish enough to expect miracles to happen. |

Which government provided everything for free in America? People will just come online spewing rubbish, nothing is free in America everything as a price and the only free thing in that country is the air you breath, try not to pay your bills and see if anything is free. If you don't pray for jobs, what about good health or you think people don't suffer catastrophic illness in America? What about safety from danger or even accidents, this one is trying to impress impressionable Nigerians with his American nonsense. |

Nobody will go to church in Nigeria if basic amenities are available in Nigerians for free. The churches used the opportunity to scam their gullible one, they have been shouting witches witches but witches refused to finish in the country |

eepeepook:you're missing the point, its not about being religious, its about how you funnily have to pray for everything in Nigeria, even the ridiculous basic things every govt should've provided for you, you won't have a reason to pray for a job in a country where there's employment opportunities. |
| Re: Since I Moved To America, I No Longer Pray For 20 Minutes – Oyindamola by Christlike01: 12:55pm On Jun 11 |
@Oyindamola, are you trying to mock God after answering your prayers? Everything you asked for in your prayers in Nigeria, God provided for you in America. Instead of thanking God, you're here spewing gibberish. |

I agree with him... It is also the reason their religion is thriving very well in this country. We praying for the most basic thing that we shouldn't have to break sweat for... We are doom as a country. Division is the only solution |
