The Day You Realize Your Parents Were Stronger Than You Thought by Dpsychologist(op): 9:39am On Jun 19
One of the biggest shocks of adulthood is discovering that life is much harder than it looked when you were a child.

Many young people grow up feeling disappointed in their parents. They see poverty, financial struggles, unfinished dreams, and hardships. Some even tell themselves, "I will work harder than my parents and become far more successful."

At first, it sounds easy until adulthood arrives. Bills begin to pile up. Jobs become difficult to find. Businesses fail. Responsibilities multiply. Unexpected emergencies appear. The same person who once criticized their parents now finds themselves working long hours, struggling to save money, and fighting daily battles nobody sees.

Suddenly, a painful realization emerges.

The parents they looked down on were raising children, paying rent, feeding a family, handling pressure, and surviving in circumstances that were often worse than what they face today.

Many people eventually discover that their parents achieved more with fewer opportunities.

This does not mean every parent made perfect decisions. Some certainly made mistakes. However, adulthood teaches a valuable lesson: surviving is often harder than judging.

Life has a way of humbling people.

The father you thought lacked ambition may have been carrying burdens you never knew about. The mother you believed was not successful may have been sacrificing her own dreams to keep the family together.

Growing older often replaces criticism with respect. Nothing exposes the weight your parents carried more than carrying your own.

Adulthood is the stage where many people stop asking, "Why didn't my parents do better?" and start asking, "How did they manage to do all that and still keep going?"

Sometimes wisdom is realizing that the people you once thought were weak were actually stronger than you ever imagined.

Now our time is more difficult than theirs. Things are more expensive and life is more difficult.

The most surprising facts today is that, many in our parents age are better compared to the present day children.

At a certain age, many of them built their houses while in this generation, they are still waiting for jobs, seeking opportunities here and there and some may end up not having the job las las.

However, times have changed seriously,it is painful to see many of our parents still taking care of their children who are supposed to take care of them at old age still living with them, with no income,no means of survival for himself,I mean what a surprising world.

Very true. I use to remember how things were very cheap back then now prices of basic commodities are astronomically high.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize that my dad loved us more than anyone else. Thank God it wasn’t too late for me to understand and appreciate that.

Men, take care of your parents—especially your father. In many cases, he is the one man who genuinely wants you to surpass him and achieve greater things in life. Sadly, many of us only come to this realization after he is gone.

If your dad is still here, cherish him, appreciate him, and make time for him while you still can.

The dynamics are different from the time of our parents. The value system has collapsed and the change is in the down side slope. So comparison is not justified.

7 of you guys?
The truth is, we do claim they trained and feed us well but I don't agree to it.
Today's standard of living is quiet higher than theirs.
A man who stays in a 2 room face you and slap me, sends his children to public school, uses Nappy (a cut towel for the baby's diaper), gives the baby only ogi/pap is considered responsible.
But today, such a man is a failure. Is wife will constantly remind him of his poverty and failure, probably cheating sef. The children and family will say he is irresponsible for sending the kids to public pry and sec. Schools.
So will say they are not better than us, they were just lucky to come that time

My Papa that was an 'ordinary' plumber bought a brand new car and used to fly economy class of Nigerian airways
Me never even enter plane before

The things our parents did and achieved in life as normal people are the things rich people struggle to achieve today.

They got married before 30 in most cases, gave birth to children they fed and trained with some ease, build houses in the village at 40 and some in the city too and they weren't even rich .

A sad realization for most young men but it becomes late by the time they realise this. Your father is the best gift that nature brought to you. Cherish him.

They would have been thoughtful by not having children or less, as a way of cutting down responsibility. But no, "children are blessings", now we're caught in a frenzy

This is one of the MAJOR reasons why Nigeria is where it is today.

Very High population with little productivity.
