ABEOKUTA – The Road Safety Officers’ Wives Association, Ogun State Chapter, on Saturday, took its road safety campaign to Kuto Motor Park in Abeokuta, warning commercial drivers and passengers against speeding, overloading, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

​The public enlightenment programme, aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and embedding safety consciousness in motorists, was led by the ROSOWA Chairperson in the state, Lady Morenikeji Ogunjobi.

​Ogunjobi is the wife of the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi.
​The details of the event were disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer of the FRSC Ogun Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi.

​According to Odunsi, the ROSOWA Chairperson, while addressing motorists, commercial drivers, and passengers at the park, explained that a large percentage of road traffic crashes across the country are preventable if road users strictly adhere to established safety standards.

​She listed speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, use of mobile phones while behind the wheel, and driving under the influence of alcohol as major killers on Nigerian roads, urging drivers to prioritize their lives and those of their passengers.

​Ogunjobi said, "Many of these crashes we witness daily are completely avoidable. We are appealing to our drivers to cultivate patience, discipline, tolerance, and courtesy while using the roads. Ensure your vehicles are regularly maintained and obey traffic signs at all times."

​She further reiterated the commitment of the association to continuously support the FRSC in its aggressive public enlightenment campaigns and advocacy programmes geared towards saving lives.

​The command’s image maker, Odunsi, noted that the transporters and passengers at the park commended the initiative, thanking the FRSC and ROSOWA for bringing the safety campaign directly to them, while pledging to serve as safety ambassadors.

​Odunsi added that the exercise was part of the ongoing strategic efforts by the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command to strengthen public awareness and foster a safer motoring environment across the state.

​He further quoted the command as calling on all road users to remain law-abiding and safety-conscious at all times.
