Black tax is not for me. Everybody should be busy and work for their own beer. If I happen to give you, it's not an entitlement rather it's for charity which is not meant to be means of livelihood.
Re: Mikel Obi Speaks On Family Financial Pressure Faced By Successful Africans by vick00(m): 4:54pm On Jul 14
I see no reason why I should stop helping and supporting my family as long as habe money to support them even if they ask me 1,000 thousands times I will be happy to do it.

There is a man here a neighbouring town, Iseyin. In iseyin, reconstructed their family house to 2 bedrooms flat sections up to 100 units and told all family members take one be each even people that are close to family had opportunity to benefit.

My point is that many successful people only help family with money that we also know it can never sustain a business in this Nigeria to family who needs help and eventually when they asl for help again, you say did I not give you 100k to start business?? Tell me what business can 100k do.

Many successful people only help to intimidating but not helping to be successful.

I wish I can send voice note to explain myself

Why is he always complaining, this stingy maggot.
This guy is supposed to be "The Okpara" in his father's house!
In traditional igbo settings, he should be the one to guide his siblings rightly in life when his dad is not there or incapcitated. But he is always wailing..

My dad trained all his 4 brothers. Man sacrificed a lot to set them up in life. It is the igbo culture! Culture defines a people... Mikel is from Neni in Anambra State. The first son of his father. But I doubt if he knows the site of his father's "Obi"!
Mikel needs to be flogged!

I know he was born in Jos, but together with PSquare them, dude is becoming a maximum emberassment to the igbo culture.
You don't complain about what you did for your family or siblings. Where we come from, it is not a gesture, it is a RESPONSIBILITY.
All these "my mama said I be igbo" will unravel the great culture of the igbos if allowed..
Are your uncles and their children still dependent on your father? That is the issue here.

What he is complaining is about people that refuse to use the help to become independent...but decide to just keep eating the assitance and coming back for more.

Once the money is very large, put some of it in a high yield savings or mutual funds account and use the interest earned to settle black tax regularly.

But after a while, tie remittance to projects that will help them start earning for themselves e.g Education, skills training, business funding

Tell me you don't know anything about America/Europe . Go and look at NFL/NBA draft when they ask the drafted players what they'll be using their first paycheck for and you'll see their response .

Please familiarise yourself with what is going on globally in relation to stars globally ......

And again... its not peculiar to sports only.....its also common among musicians and movie stars ....

If you are a star....people closest to you will expect a form of financial obligation from you...

Some people even have to go to court and file for restraining orders against family members and associates...

This is common globally bro although more pronounced in Africa.....its you that will manage yourself and prevent people form exploiting you

It's simply because of widespread multi-dimensional poverty in Africa.
The more the financial muscle of your relatives & people around you, the less the financial pressure on you.

Moral: As you succeed & make money in life, try to empower your relatives & those around you.
No offence but give me a clue or two on how you empowered yours and they never had to come to you for money again

[quote author=EmmyMaestro post=140022611]Mikel Obi speaks on family financial pressure faced by successful Africans

Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has spoken about the financial responsibilities many successful Africans carry toward their extended families.

According to Mikel, in many African societies, financial success often comes with expectations that go far beyond supporting one’s immediate household.

He said that when a person becomes wealthy, siblings, extended relatives, and even in-laws may come to depend on them financially.

Using Victor Osimhen as an example, Mikel suggested that the striker experiences similar pressures.

He added that when successful individuals are no longer able or willing to provide financial assistance, they are often perceived negatively by those who had relied on them.

Mikel said in part …

“In Africa, when you make money, it’s not just yours it belongs to the whole family depending on you. Your siblings, their in-laws, everyone depends on you. Victor Osimhen faces the same thing. The moment you stop helping, you become the bad guy”

Obi!

Peter Obi!

Two stingy men on earth! undecided

You have money but you can't help? undecided

If you are financially capable of helping why don't you help? But you here wailing like your father Peter Obi

No one does it better than the Hausa/fulani. For all their excesses, there are many things about their lifestyle we in the south should learn from.

I heard he opened a transportation company for his family back then. They even said most of the busses were customized with Chelsea based on his career in Chelsea then. I don't know how true this is but many people are misunderstanding what he actually means.

I think he is going to the direction of when all family members depend on you if you have so much money and when you help them, they don't help themselves but keep coming back to depend on you. Probably why he mentioned that when you stop helping they take you as the bad guy, probably forgetting all you have done for them to build themselves.
