I am sorry. I was wrong…. I had assessed Nigerians based on my own personal experience when I visit Nigeria 🇳🇬. Today, I took time to get off my air conditioned hotel room and got into the streets. I interacted with the corn seller on the streets - she was sweating profusely under the sun. She would wipe her face with her hands and still serve the roasted corn with the same hand. At first, I was disgusted 🤮 then I felt I could be kinder. So instead of correcting her harshly, I walked across to a shop on the other side of the road and bought her a pack of face towels. She was so happy and thanked me. I then advised her not to touch her face, nostrils or eyes etc with the same hand she uses to serve her customers. She was grateful. I went to Banex - I went to a few shops and saw young Nigerians hustling for daily bread - in the heat. Many of them are university graduates. In fact, one of the people I met studied Computer Science at a university and works as a computer repairer in a tiny cubicle he calls his workshop. He was sweating profusely despite the ceiling fan placed directly over his head powered by a very loud petrol generator stationed outside his shop. That cubicle feeds him, his boys and his family. I spent time asking him some questions and I’ve invited him and his friends to a Dinner with me tonight at my hotel. I am PERSUADED that the Nigeria you experience from the comfort of your air conditioned hotels and fancy restaurants with back to back flights is entirely different from the Nigeria the ordinary Nigerian hustling for daily bread experiences. It would therefore be unfair to judge Nigerian economy based on a place of convenience, luxury and privilege. This is why we should be kinder to ordinary Nigerians. Those in Government MUST step down from their high horses from time to time to experience the realities of the average Nigerians. If you are a privileged Nigerian, DO NOT FORGET That millions experience the opposite of your comfort. You operate from an Air conditioned office space, they can’t even afford a clean face towel to wipe sweat off their face. Some of you can’t even remember when last you sweated besides at the gym. I see massive opportunities in places like BANEX - there are raw talents locked up in those tiny cubicles. By the way, how many of you have seen that “I AM SORRY” billboards scattered all over Abuja? I hope it’s not what I’m thinking. It’s almost 2027 - are some people trying to pull a Buhari game on Nigerians? Apologising only after wasting our national life for 8 years? Governments are not wasting our money as much as they are wasting our time and our lives. If you are in Government, the only way to make change is to disconnect your brain from AIR CONDITIONED spaces. I think everyone’s brain will start working once we disconnect from luxury. Who would have taught that my search for Agbado would lead me to a major wake up call? Agbado kwa. © Charles Awuzie |

yMcy56:Using precedents, when ARADEL listed on the Lagos bourse, we saw the stock gain 10% for the first few trading days after which the stock became fully offered and the stock went downhill from there. If I remember correctly, the stock peaked above N800 and dipped to about N400 or even lower post listing. That is about 50% price decline which is not very common for fundamentally sound stocks listed on the NGX. This reflects market sentiment. It doesn't mean ARADEL's house was not in order. Kindly note that I have not analysed the stock in question so I do not know whether it is fundamentally sound or not. I am only saying that when market sentiments change, prices can be irrational. Thank you Iskalamong! . . |

lawani:This type of rule will not hold. In developed markets, companies like SpaceX, Fintech companies amongst many other unprofitable companies list on their exchange(s) Instead, I think what is practical is that investors and traders should have their due diligence checklists or conditions or criteria before investing, trading and/or speculating on a stock. Sometimes, investors look at the future prospects of the company rather than their present level of profitability. Hence, due diligence is the responsibility of the trader/investor. Thanks! yMcy56:I get your point ma. In my honest opinion, brokers trade less than 100k units of stocks mainly to avoid changing the price or raising eye brows. It is a common practice on the local bourse (NGX). Meanwhile, the fact that trades are executed in tranches below 100k is not an evidence that insiders are behind the transactions. It may or may not be insiders. Please dont let us conclude in a hurry. Again, this year is a pre-election year, it is not uncommon to have a weaker H2 in the market. This also happened in 2022. Then, GTCO dropped below N17, ZENITHBANK below N20 (if I remember correctly). It doesn't mean that insiders are the ones manipulating the price. Best regards, Iskalamong! . . |

yMcy56:The role of regulator (SEC) and self regulatroy organisations (NGX) is simple: Investor Protection. Is the company legitimate? Do they operate as claimed? Are their earnings report accurate? Then trading malpractices like insider dealings etc. Once these are checked, the regulators are doing their jobs. When stocks list newly, they gain 10% daily mainly due to sentiments but not all of them gain 10% for many days. Examples of exceptions that I can remember now are ARADEL, VFDGROUP etc. In fact, ARADEL is a perfect example, you can check the price movement post listing. Furthermore, it is important to note that regulators cannot control sentiments. The best that they can do is the daily price rise ceiling of 10% and daily price drop floor of 10% which they have done. Cheers 🍻 Iskalamong! . . |

This new rule will make no big difference as many stocks are below 500 The target is for ASI as the big stocks will require less money to keep pushing it up which is never true reflection of the market They can use Dangote Cement, bua food and MTN to pust the AsI to 300k before end of the yr Then use ASI as campaign achievement |

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Streetinvestor2: 11:21pm On Aug 14 |
deathwing:Those 11 stocks that will be affected by the new rules are mostly moved by thr MM. And most times they like to move it north. They can be tools to move ASI easily now.And sometimes institutional investors. Most times retail investors no dey fit do them anything because na afolabi units them dey buy |

iskalamong:Any rule can hold if the market operator decides it is good for the market. You can invite private placements without being profitable and then do an IPO after showing profitability in even six months. It isn't a bad rule. HNIs and institutional investors can join the private placement after checking very well while the general public go in only when profitability has been demonstrated |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 4:20am On Aug 15 |
lawani:It's a backward and unnecessary rule, no serious market will ever push it. You guys expect too much spoon feeding from the market when you can simply have your own rules to guide your investment decisions. No one forces you to buy every stock listed. If profitablity is your own gauge, then write that rule in bold fonts and hang it on your wall, instead of trying to use your fear and lack of experience to limit a market we're trying to grow. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by deathwing(m): 6:45am On Aug 15 |
lawani:What kind of handholding is this one? If only profitable companies can enter market, it would be a very very weak/thin/underpopulated market. You have also now given incentives for people to do financial magomago to meet up with the requirements. Retail traders are poor, not stupid, if they want to buy an unprofitable company, that’s their concern. That’s why it’s called a market. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by lawani(m): 8:34am On Aug 15 |
deathwing:Anything to make the investment platform which the stock exchange is more healthy for the public should be welcome and such a move will make it easy to value a company. Any company that can declare a minimum profit per annum can be said to be worth a certain minimum and any layman can do such a calculation. Any company that does not grow at all will crash out. They all grow so there is nothing wrong in making profitability a requirement for listing |

Streetinvestor2:Tick size might have an effect. Majority of stocks reside above ₦5 and below ₦500. The usuall increment or decrease is ₦0.05(5kobo) Now it's ₦0.01(1kobo). much more pronounced sluggish rise and sluggish dip depending on the stock movements. |
