Peter Obi and Atiku are saying they will remove subsidy. Sowore too.
But have they and other Nigerians supporting this idea thought of the scenario that could unfold that is typical of Nigerian?
If fuel subsidy is returned today, to the shock of many prices will not be significantly affected and fuel queues will return.
Transport cost would also not be significantly affected neither would house rent, food and school fees.
And of course many state governments would not be unable to meet their financial obligations to workers and the state.
Those Nigerians would wish subsidy was not returned.
This is the time to find a way to adjust the price of fuel.
It is crominal foolishand insensitive sell crude to Dangote using the international price and exchange rate in naira.
The nation should rather sell the crude to DR at a national-determined price and also agree to a price that DR would sell to the public. Dangote can supply the whole country successfully without any queues
The peices can be reviewed every 3 months or 6 months etc

I dont know how old you are but I recount the era of Shagari very well. There is scarcity of essential commodities, essenco it was called then. Up till this government no Nigerian government has served the masses well. All they do is give the masses hope. The masses are the ones at the receiving end of their never ending "reforms".
Obi and Atiku will not offer anything different.
And you should also know how to reply to peoples comment without being disrespectful. What I am saying is my opinion.
Going to queue up essenco made up mainly of rice , milk and sugar then. By the time you get to the LG secretariat, the queue would have been as long as the burning train in the Indian film

Transcorp at 36 naira looks interesting to take a punt on it. Any particularly strong negative against Transcorp apart from its current TrancorpPower earnings/receivables red flag, and general Market bearish sentiment?

Just curious and willing to learn from more experienced head (thanks)
If you buy Transcorp before the share reconstruction, you are presently at a huge loss. Do the research in case you want to nail me to the cross.

My sister, it is very possible. There are energency power barges/plants with 500-1500 MW capacity that the govt can purchase and deploy within a short time, less than a year. Countries like Ghana did that a few years ago when they had power shortage. You dont have to build it yourself from the scratch.
The new electricity law has opened the way for solutions to the power problem. When people shout that the sub nationals are not doing enough, critics are ever eager to defend them. The barges you talked about, what stops the states from acquiring them especially with the law that has decentralized electricity generation and distribution?

I can bet you, If a state government provides 20 hours electricity to its citizens, the noise alone will spur neighboring states to action.

Electricity supply was extremely low all through my stay in Nigeria, at least let the people have electricity for their legit hustles
I am not in any way defending the government o but with all due respect, the low supply was due to where you stayed. In this same Nigeria, there are areas enjoying 22- 23 hours of electricity un- interrupted.

It is a very defeatist attitude to say states should buy and deploy the power barges. Even if they would play a part, it is appropriate for the FG to play the leading role while states support. We should stop shifting the goal posts to the states in order to shield the failures of the FGN.
Why does the FG still collect huge corporate taxes, VAT, customs duties etc if it cannot provide electriciry to the companies? Whenever the FG says the states should be held responsible for sonething that is so critical to the economy, it means they have failed totally. The FG should refuce and trasfer some of its share of the huge tax revenues to the states if it wants the states to take on more responsibility.
To whom much is given, much is expected

Before Tinubu this VAT you are talking about was not up to five percent of revenue. If Tinubu can make VAT and CIT the majority of federal revenue in a few years then states can and should make PAYE the majority of their own revenue too. If they do that they can't claim the FG has more resources than them. Personal income tax is the leader in working countries. Lagos, Enugu and Rivers are doing it already. Any state that takes what it has right to take as the FG under Tinubu took VAT and CIT will in one year be able to do anything on its own.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by megawealth01: 1:14am On Aug 26
Wetin concern Obi for this talk...? I'm focused on the person in power... Nothing concern me with who isn't in power yet as I can only hold the one in power accountable
Itzlinda:
That is not feasible. It takes 3-4 years of efficient construction to build gas fired thermal plant. This is not possible before election.

I do not think there is anything that can be done. Such project ought to have started when he first took over, even if it had started at such perfect time it would not be be ready for commision now.

I think we should be realistic of what government can actually achieve so that we won't be running around circle from one fail promise to the other. even obi said power cannot be fixed in 4 years.

Even the respurces for generating electricity - Hydro (river/water bodies) and Thermal (gas) are under the sole control of the FG, yet some people want to shift the responsibility for electricity to states
Has the new electriciry law addressed these issues? Can Rivers State just install pipelines to evacuate gas to power its plants without the FG obstructing it?
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by megawealth01: 1:29am On Aug 26
From the comments I have read so far, it appears that Jagaban may not be sufficiently connecting with the realities of the masses. Beyond these palliatives, which offer only temporary relief and are hardly enough to address the deeper challenges confronting ordinary Nigerians, the government needs to prioritize the welfare and security of the people.

The masses need to genuinely feel the presence and impact of government in their daily lives. They need meaningful interventions, economic relief, security, and policies that translate into tangible improvements in their standard of living.

Those around the President especially here in this NAIRALAND platform should be bold enough to tell him this bitter but necessary truth. Leadership requires honest feedback, not just praise from those who benefit from access. Let the government listen to the people and respond to what they are actually experiencing.

Unlicensed financial commentary crossing into advisory territory violates market regulations. Under the Investments and Securities Act, only SEC-registered operators are legally permitted to provide investment advisories or promote securities. Public analysis that moves retail capital without proper licensing exposes everyday investors to unnecessary risks.

The president and most of us thought that if he gave more money to the states where people live, multi‑dimensional poverty across the country would reduce. But we have all seen that this is not the case – unless it is just political whining by the opposition.

What is your advice for the administration on tackling the issue of "Nigerians are suffering" or "people are hungry"?

Let look at it this way.You gave the governors more money which is suppose to alleviate the living standard of his people. Then you tell the governor that he will go free if he loots after his tenure as long as he supports your second term bid. That once he joins your party his past and future sins will be forgiven. That the agencies which is suppose to hold you responsible will turn blind eyes.Do you think he will work for the people.
Do you know that today local government autonomy is a big scam.No local government collects direct allocation from federal allocation. The governors threatened that they will work against the president second term and the federal government backed down. The money still goes into joint account of state governors.
This is why only few benefits from the subsidy removal which was a policy people like me supported initially. It is now better to return it as the aim has been defeated.
The federal government has assured the governors that no one can hold you accountable. The only governors now working is the ones who choose to work maybe because they still have some conscience left in them.If the governor know they risk loosing the looted funds and going to jail after thr tenure, you would have seen the benefits of more funds to them.Instead we see even the ones with cases to answer with efcc given appointments. And making them party big wins

Even before Tinubu, there was no enough air, sunshine and water in the sea.
It was Tinubu that "moved" air, sunshine and sea water in Nigeria from 5% to 100%.
Very useless, meaningless and nauseating hero-worshipping.
