awesomeJ:Well u are entitled to your opinion. And just like I have my own as I disagree with the figures portrayed all over your post.I don't remember any one saying they want fuel 3 or 5 times cheaper. Why didn't u consider 700/800 for fuel. You picked those numbers to push your position Why should our consumption rocket from 32 million to 100 million because we now have subsidy. So the consumption is even as low as 32 million liters.I though they claimed it was 50 million liters So you believe it is rocket science and impossible to stop smuggling of fuel to neighbouring countries by a willing government. If you believe as nation we cannot police our boarders then we have no government. The dollar going to 1900 and down to 1300 is nothing special. It was same government theat made it get to that 1900 And now systematically doing manage floating at above 1300.So another government can still do same manage floating at even 1000 or less to make life affordable for Nigerians The only constant thing in all this is bat government has made life most difficult for majority of Nigerians .And the inflation figures are lies after changing methodology in the name of rebasing of the economy. And why won't reserve grow naturally when crude prices has been above 65 dollars benchmark based on our budget for reasonable time Finally as long as 79% of Nigerians fall under world bank methodology for calculating hunger and poverty level. The government has failed. Abi nigeria has to have different standard for checking it because of BAT |

Streetinvestor2:let me see a few points I can address from your post: 1. Crude prices were around $100 for the most part of GEJ's tenure until US shale in 2014 crashed the market. How come reserves still got depleted druring his time?, now you want to make light the achievement of growing net reserves by 700% just caus crude was over $65? that opinion is bias 2. It was not the government that took it to 1900, it was headed there and far beyond anyways, it's a natural consequence of having no reserves. the currency wouldn't be worth the paper it's printed on. Zimbabwe has a currency note of $1,000,000,000,000 that couldn't buy a loaf of bread. 3. If the economy improves to a point where 1000 to the dollar is sustainable then the rates will naturally move there, in the meantime, stabilising at 1300 is achievement enough. 4. securing the vast borders is not about cheap talk, it requires manpower that's either unavailable or already far stretched. If you can buy a N100m car, you should be able to fuel it, don't expect your lavish consumption to be subsidized, the common man doesn't consume anywhere near the big man. plus diesel that affects cost of transporting goods has always been deregulated for decades now. 5. If fuel in already cheaper in Nigeria than in neighboring countries, asking for any meaningful subsidy is exactly asking for it to be 3 to 5x cheaper. 6. I do not dismiss the fact the people are going through a lot, what we're saying is previous administrations only kicked the can down the road, and they were more responsible for the root causes. there was no reason our reserves shouldn't have exceeded $100bn under GEJ. |

megawealth01:i understand your point. The answer to your question is No. However the question in itselft isn't fair. A fair question is: Given the place the economy had been put before 2023, has the actions and policies of this govt made things better for the masses than they would have inevitably been? The answer to that is "Yes" |

faoogoke:Sometimes we say things out of fantasy. Do you know the economics of mini grids? Who and who will be connecting to the mini grids and at what cost? Economies of scale is what makes power generation profitable and mini grids cannot offer that. Imagine the cost of running a power plant with only few oeople on it. How would they be able to afford the huge bills to sustain the mini grids?. Mini grids are for rich companies, individuals or community who can afford to pay very high price for power. But who in the poor villages and remote areas would connect to such mini grids? |

awesomeJ:No 1.The reserves may have dropped but he didn't borrow the country to fouth generation in combined internal and external borrowing like this present government No 2 it was not heading anywhere because the Dangote Refinery was already achieved by the buhari government. That was part of thr strategy. This government is now taking credit for it.And this is what has reduced the demand for dollars .50% of dollars demand was going to be taken care by DR.So this government has done nothing special in that regard No 3 So you agree they are pegging the price and not true reflection of exchange rate. The past government choose the own stablizer and the one ithat will come in 2027 can equally choose something better to achieve a target No 4. You pont here does not hold water as majority of small and medium businesses generate thr own power. And this group is the power house of an economy. It is not the rich guys driving big cars that subsidy is really for.How many are they. The local commuting by most Nigerians are in vehicles that use fuel and not gas so you are still wrong. What vehicles are mostly used for human transport in nigeria across the country No 5.i still believe fuel at 700/800 should do Nigerians good.It is not Nigerians business how much it is sold in neighbouring countries .Do you know what other things the citizens benefits or get subsidy for in thr countries No 6. IT has been standard to appoint blames by this apc/bat government to previous government. When it is even clear to blind man that all those past government had better numbers to show in all sectors for comparison |

Do you know when many feel the problem of subsidy corruption really happened because of smuggling to neighbouring countries. It is a big lie because I have friends who benefited from it. The real corruption happened in the importation process. The big fraud was the claim of importing nothing and sending bills to government for it The smuggling across the boarders was small play. In otherworld subsidy can now be managed properly and relatively efficient since everything will happen within local refineries. AS no one can just send bill of importation that didn't happen. This was whr the largest corruption and stealing happened. In the previous subsidy process, fake importation bills choke. The smuggling aspect is small problem to handle. As this tankers don't fly in the night. They use known roads and not something u can concel in a bag if willing government want to stop it.it is very easy When custom seize like 10 and burn it openly.Nobody go wan put his tanker for such risky business when u look at the cost to buy a fuel tanker, you go reason the matter |

Streetinvestor2:I agree with you on this. On the other posts though, your points aren't as sound. You said big companies generate their own power, but they do use diesel or natural gas which have long be deregulated, so what you're saying there I don't get. Your public transport point though is taken, and the govt should make good on their cheap mass transit promises. I never said the currency was pegged, so no agreement there. When a country had 40trn in entire money supply but printed extra 30trn cos they were spending money they didn't have, you and I know that was the root cause of the 2x value loss of the currency. Abi from this our stock market business, what happens to a company's eps, if it had 40bn OS and created additional 30bn shares and allotted it all to insiders without collecting any cash, their balance sheet would at best stay stagnant while eps would crash by half, then the market if rational would reprice the stock at half the previous price, same exact thing with currencies. If they had continued printing, the currency would simply have continued sliding, That's how we got the worthless Zimbabwean trillion dollars. |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by awesomeJ(m): 6:51pm On Aug 26 |
If the market maker was spending reserves to defend the share price for years, then a new MD comes in and says, we'll use our reserves for more meaningful purposes, let the shares trade freely, and let's gradually buy back some of our OS. The stock price falls, then you start blaming the new MD as being responsible, forgetting that it was someone else that foolishly diluted the OS without growing the balance sheet. |

megawealth01:Sure, meanwhile like i've previously said, those of us who have been on the other side of these same reforms i.e made massive loots from the stock market should try helping the masses too so that this doesn't become mere hypocrisy. With just N30m anyone can do a 60kva solar installation, tgat will be enough to solve power problems for 50 people. But some people are sitting idly on 100x that amount and complaining about the masses. It's just more effective to do something to alleviate their situation, especially if thesame reforms that hurt them have given some of us billions. |

BREAKING: CSCS to slash retail lien fees, scrap family transfer charges in fresh pricing review Kelechi Mgboji BREAKING: CSCS to slash retail lien fees, scrap family transfer charges in fresh pricing review Nigeria’s Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) is set to roll out a fresh round of pricing changes that will cut lien fees for retail investors by half, eliminate charges on securities transfers between immediate family members, and scrap broker code and eligibility fees entirely, Nairametrics can exclusively report. The revised framework, seen by Nairametrics on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, comes about six months after CSCS implemented a sweeping overhaul of its 2026 fee structure that pushed charges sharply higher across institutional and retail-facing services. The latest review appears to be part of a broader push to reduce transaction friction, deepen retail participation while supporting innovation by brokers and fintechs. What the new pricing reveals: The new pricing document obtained by Nairametrics shows four key changes stand out: Retail lien fees have been cut from 0.25% to 0.125%, a 50% reduction for retail clients transacting below N100 million. Nominal transfers between immediate family members — including spouses, parents, children, siblings and step-children — will now attract zero charge, down from 0.3% previously. Broker code creation and renewal, previously priced at N145,600 plus 7.5% VAT, has been reduced to nil. Eligibility fees payable by brokers across NGX, NASD and LCFE, previously N36,400 plus 7.5% VAT, have also been scrapped. CSCS described itself as a “sacrosanct” part of the development of Nigeria’s capital markets, stating that its pricing and services must support “greater participation, efficiency, innovation and liquidity across the market.” Get up to speed: Earlier this year, Nairametrics had reported CSCS’s fee overhaul which had introduced steep increases across a range of services, with OTC trade fees rising by over 3,000% and custody charges shifting from a flat fee to a percentage of asset value, among other institutional-focused adjustments. Retail-facing charges such as statements, transfers and account updates also rose, albeit more modestly. The changes prompted pushback from some quarters of the market. At that time, a cross section of market operators welcomed the development while some expressed concern that steep increases in transaction costs could discourage retail investors who are still new to formal financial systems. They argued that “the strength of any financial system is not measured solely by its efficiency, but by the breadth of its participation.” However, CSCS’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shehu Shantali, explained that CSCS’ core fees remain unchanged, maintaining cost stability across key market activities. According to him, the initial review mainly affected previously underpriced services and introduced charges for some services that had been free, while insisting that most of CSCS’s core fees remained unchanged. He stated that the new services were designed to make things easier for investors and to help stakeholders access better data, faster transactions, and deeper value across the ecosystem. Cheaper market participation CSCS said the adjustments are designed to make capital market participation cheaper and easier for both investors and operators. For retail investors specifically, the company said lowering lien fees and removing charges on qualifying family transfers would reduce friction around holding and transferring securities, unlocking value and supporting market liquidity. For brokers and other intermediaries, scrapping broker code and eligibility fees is intended to lower operating costs and create room for innovation, the company added. CSCS said the review forms part of its continuing effort to deepen the Nigerian capital market and strengthen post-trade infrastructure. The company said it would keep leveraging technology and data to improve the experience of investors, support retail participation and financial inclusion, and enable innovation by brokers and fintechs. CSCS also said it was positioning itself to play a bigger role in the development and integration of African capital markets as the domestic market evolves, stressing that its pricing and services must support “greater participation, efficiency, innovation and liquidity across the market.”. What you should know: There has been a broader industry push to expand investor inclusion and unlock the full potential of the country’s large population. Against this backdrop, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) along with Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) have promoted initiatives to improve retail participation in equities trading. The NGX, for instance, launched its innovative NGX’s official digital primary-market platform for public offers and rights issues where investors can browse live offers, submit investment details and make payments through one digital flow. Bamboo, Lambeth Capital’s brokerage apps, was designed to allow eligible users to subscribe to available NGX public offers and rights issues. Users only need an active NGX/CSCS account and sufficient naira balance to trade. Nairametrics had reported that retail investors accounted for roughly one in every four stock trades executed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) between January and July 2026, with Lambeth Capital Limited, through its brokerage partner, Bamboo, driving the bulk of that activity for a seventh consecutive month. The pricing review, according to CSCS, forms part of its continuing effort to deepen the Nigerian capital market and strengthen post-trade infrastructure. |

awesomeJ:I didn't say big companies. The catalyst for any economy is the small and medium companies and businesses(SME) They generate thr own power and rely on fuel. The big companies are on different level. And this small and medium companies and businesses is what we have all over nigeria. The figures coming out from present cbn is not all I swallow. We know this government has scores to settle with last cbn guy for his political moves to frustrate bat before 2023 elections Though he was not a Saint because of excessive greed. It is when a new government enter and we have a different cbn some truth will equally come out about this government spending. For now it is on public knowledge this government has been spending outside the budget approved by the legislature too.Have you wondered whr the fund is equally coming from. The present minister of finance has been lying like kilode with numbers andbhandles fiscal policy.
