VERITASKAP Eyes Recovery as Nigerian Insurance Sector Firms

Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc operates within Nigeria's non-life insurance segment, a sector that has drawn renewed attention following NAICOM's ongoing recapitalisation drive compelling insurers to shore up balance sheets and improve underwriting discipline.

Seems like Atiku is coming with everything in his arsenal to make sure he wins this time.

He's promising to implement many populist policies if he get elected

Seplat on full bid, i just wanted to plough in back the dividend to get a few more units. Is it because they just paid dividend that is why it is not available.
₦163.27 dividends per unit for a stock of 12k per unit. Please shuuush.

Access is a sure banker; does not need any ''push''.
Lack of dividends for FY2025 is what is holding it.
I pray they don't even pay interim dividend for FY2026 so the price can stagnate within a range for me to buy more.

What are some of the specific measures that you think should have been put in place? Meanwhile, the constitution stipulate the distribution of all accruing revenues to the federating units and our experience about previous incremental removal is available to all of us to learn from.

I don't think there is any need to discuss the specific measures here again. There are several literatures on the subject
Common sense requires there should be planning, strategy and guidelines for a massive economic decision.

This topic had been discussed several times here, and I specifically listed some measures that could have been done e.g. help Dangote accelerate the completion of the refinery before announcing the removal of the subsidy as the refinery would help fill the shortfalls in supply (real or artificial) that might be exploited by marketers to extort the masses/consumers.
Everything is clearer in hindsight. Few experts predicted the scale of the shock after subsidy removal. Many expected the naira to stabilise around ₦700–₦800/$, which could have kept petrol around ₦500–₦600/litre. Instead, the naira eventually weakened to around ₦1,700/$.

Cushioning a shock of that magnitude requires enormous government spending. And as the UK demonstrates, maintaining extensive welfare commitments while trying to improve productivity and economic growth is a difficult balancing act.

Anyone who says subsidy removal and its aftermath were simple problems with easy solutions is seriously underestimating the difficulty of economic policymaking.

It was a careless announcement made out of poor appreciation or reckless abandon of the possible effects and ramifications of such decision.

I am really surprised at some of Atiku pronouncement in recent days.
I have always thought of him as a capitalist.
His manifestoe for 2023 election appeared to me as the best among the major contestants.
He must really be desperate to be talking the way he is doing now.

I suggest you look into the issue. If you do, you will see clearly that if you know what you are doing, you would do the same – even if you don't make the outlandish announcement.

1. The PIA was passed after 13 years, and one of the main issues is subsidy removal.
2. Buhari's administration made no provision for subsidy payment after June 2023.
3. The earlier subsidy payments were financed by loans, and there are still some outstanding.
4. You would have to borrow more immediately to pay subsidy, in addition to every other expense, etc.

The decision is inevitable if you just look past the cowboy and outlandish style of the announcement.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by megawealth01: 2:23pm On Aug 28
Subsidy is gone... This government will definitely regret making that careless statement from day one of its administration...

That statement brought Nigeria where it is today

My guy, thanks for the points you raised. Well appreciated.
The cowboy and outlandish style of the announcement actually caused major crisis; right from that minute the whole country was thrown into confusion and economic hardship which led to many demonstrations and loss of lives.
The govt still paid subsidies even after 2023, so the issues of PIA, Buhari not making provision after Jun 2023, etc are nothing but excuses to justify the decision.
Since we knew Dangote was almost completing his refinery, it would not have been too difficult to find ways to support and facilitate a speedy completion of the refinery, and then remove the subsidy after agreeing to prices to sell crude oil to the refinery and refined products from them. But the ''gragra'' announcement created a problem that lasted long and affected the whole economy to date.

Like I said, Nigerians are the ones to say whether is has been positive or negative.

* With SEPLAT at over 12k/share.....

* ARADEL is also expected to move.....
My rough estimate calculations is 1840...

* OANDO's value has also gone up......🙊
Wale needs to talk.....to say something about the debt repayment at least....
Positive statement and action will put O&O in good perspective and drive the share price far up..

** Meanwhile, ACCESS is @29+ as at now...
** FBNH @140
** SEPLAT full bid on top 12320! shocked

Where do people get this money ? I am still at a loss here how can someone execute a single trade of 102,888 units of Seplat at a go and move the price to N12,320.60k. Then who is also the single buyer that was also ready to part with that quantity of units. When things get to this level i really find it difficult to comprehend price movement in NGX. When one is trying to buy just 100 units, some other person is buying 102,888 units. This life no balance. I was thinking that the suspended price movement by NGX was to make stocks of this types more liquid.

huh

Wale is holding AGM on Sep17. It would be an anti-climax for him to say anything serious right now.
But if nothing good comes from the AGM, then wahala.

My brother, you need to be reading the annual reports so that you can recover from this type of shock and acknowledge where you are as you build up one brick at a time. You will see there how people have millions and billions of units of these stocks. Life no balance at all.
