mikeapollo:
The appetite of the stock market in 2014 was different from what obtains in 2026.
In 2014, a lot of people had not recovered from the 2008-2010 global financial crisis. Most investors and even companies ''shied away'' from stock market. Only a few people, like you, still managed to be active.
So Seplat could be described as being 'bold'' to even try a PO in 2014.
The story is no longer the same as the market seems to have recovered substantially from the 2008-2010 crisis. The appetite has gone up again
If Dangote had tried this refinery PO in 2014, it would have been under-subscribed and probably failed.
No comment and no time for argument

emmanuelewumi:
As a matter of fact the stock price of Seplat was either flat or dipped for the first 4 years when it was listed.

Yours truly bought Seplat for N300 instead of the IPO price of N576, some investors were even lucky to get it cheaper.

If this happened with a stock with a total outstanding shares of 600 million, I can't imagine what will happen with a stock with over 124 billion outstanding shares

This is deep.

ARM Securities LTD.

Please DYOR.

Please give me recommendations of Stock Brokers you have good experience with.

Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers is a very useless company, i spend endless time trying to unsuccessfully talk with their customers service, they are very reluctant to respond to emails. I keep asking yourself if anybody is even working there undecided

Some forces are trying so hard to limit the price of ZENITHBANK shares to <N127. For how long? The end of that game is near.
Will Zenith pay full year dividend of N13?

Ask yourself why retail investors are being incentivized to hold on to their stocks for 12 to 24 months after listing.

Retail investors should be smart when swimming with sharks

I am expecting a total dividend of N15.

Interim dividend of N3 to N4

Final dividend of N11 to N12

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

undecided undecided

This is a very good observation, i am yet to see any listed stock that never went down in price after listing. That is why i am not looking at the buying of the IPO as a do or die affair. I am therefore not going to sell any already acquired stock to participate in the IPO especially on the backdrop that it will be over-subscribed. I will only enter with funds i can easily raise and should in case the price dips after listing i will buy more (then i known the price will be decided by forces of demand and supply)

FOMO is real grin

It's not 1 for 10. It's 1 bonus share regardless of the volume you hold from 10 and above.

1 bonus share for 12-month holding
A second bonus share if you continue holding for a total of 24 months.

So whether you hold 10 or 10,000, you get 1 share bonus so long you're a retail investor.

You saying 1 for 10 would make someone holding 10,000 units expect a bonus of 1000 shares, that's wrong, such a person only gets 1 share.
1 for 10 like bonus was the impression I had. Will reconfirm based on your comment

I’m even more conservative because of this current CBN hook on the banks. I’m not sure if the interim will be up to that range you quoted, but we’ll see soon.

If Zenith Bank can graduate from N1.25k interim dividend to N3.00, then what am i doing buying into Dangote Refinery ?

I will await that declaration, if that is made i will use the fund am reserving for Dangote Refinery to buy more Zenith bank shares.

Lesson learnt:I am in the market to make money.

The main thing that will make this ipo over subscribed is the strategy being adopted. The target is large percentage of poor Nigerians who can easily part with 11k plus for 20 units and the promise of making them millionaires soon.It is easy to succeed in any projects u collect small money from Nigerians and promising them prosperity soon. The level of hunger and poverty makes most think of quick money this days in our country. That is why a very large percent of our population plays one form of bet or the other. Alhaji knows why 10 units was made as minimum purchase. He for try 100 0r 1000k..lol

I think the promise to ''make people millionaires soon'' should be addressed and clarified by Alhaji or his PR.
That statement could be used against him, if things go wrong. Although, he did not force anyone to buy.

When all these new “participants” begin to watch their life savings, hard-earned money evaporating, I wonder if they will be buying the dips more or rushing to get out first… We all know the outcome of the latter on stock prices.

Soon enough, we will know if the market (human nature) has evolved past 2008.

I don't invest in gold, I use the performance of gold over a period of 10 years to guage the performance of my investments.

The return on stocks like Presco and Okomu beat gold in the last 20 years.

The return on United Capital beat gold in the last 12 years

The return on Seplat beat gold in the last 10 years
There will always be a handful of stocks that outperform gold or the S&P 500 over a long period.

The harder question is: how many investors actually identified those stocks early, held them through multiple cycles, and captured most of the upside?

I suspect that percentage is very small, probably less than 5%.

Even those who did likely held other stocks that underperformed gold or the index, diluting their overall portfolio performance.

That’s why comparing one exceptional stock to gold isn’t the same as comparing an investor’s actual portfolio to gold.

For the majority of investors, investing in gold isn't a bad idea. Its simplicity means you don't have to constantly read charts or wait for companies to release financial results, while still having an asset you can hold for the long term.
