From POS To OS Because Of IOS by Lojical1(op): 11:49am On Sep 16
If you are Nigerian and active on social media, you have probably seen this joke.

POS is the legitimate hustle. OS is “olosho.” iOS is the iPhone.

The joke is obviously exaggerated, but sometimes Nigerian street humour has a painful way of touching something people do not want to discuss.

There is a growing pressure among some young people, especially young women, to maintain a lifestyle that their legitimate income simply cannot support.

It is no longer enough to look good. You need the latest iPhone. You need expensive wigs, designer clothes, nice restaurants, weekend enjoyment, trips, soft life content and the appearance that life is going very well.

The problem starts when your income cannot pay for the lifestyle your social media has convinced you that you deserve.

You earn ₦150,000, but you want a ₦1 million phone.

You are still building your career, but you want to maintain the lifestyle of someone earning several millions every month.

You are not financially independent, but you want everybody looking at you to believe that you are living your best life.

Where does the difference come from?

This is where the joke becomes uncomfortable.

Some people borrow. Some use “sponsors.” Some enter transactional relationships. Some do questionable things. Some simply live on other people's money. Some are genuinely hustling, while others are quietly drowning in the pressure to look successful.

The iPhone itself is not the problem.

If you can comfortably afford an iPhone, buy it. Enjoy it. Nobody is angry with you.

The problem is when owning the iPhone becomes more important than how you got the money to maintain the lifestyle surrounding it.

Because an iPhone does not feed you.

It does not pay your rent.

It does not increase your savings.

It does not build your career.

It does not create an emergency fund.

It simply makes your pictures look better.

Social media has made this worse because people are constantly comparing their ordinary lives with other people's highlights.

You see the restaurant, but you do not see who paid.

You see the vacation, but you do not see the debt.

You see the car, but you do not see the monthly repayment.

You see the designer outfit, but you do not see the financial struggle behind it.

You see the iPhone, but you do not see the source of the money.

Before you know it, you start feeling poor because somebody else is performing wealth on Instagram.

This is not exclusively a women's problem either. Nigerian men are guilty of the same madness.

A guy earning ₦250,000 wants a car he cannot maintain. He rents an apartment he cannot comfortably afford because of the location. He buys designer clothes to impress people who do not know him. He spends money he should be investing just to maintain an image.

Everybody wants to look rich.

Very few people want to go through the boring process of actually becoming financially stable.

The real danger is when appearance becomes more important than reality.

There is nothing wrong with wanting nice things.

Just make sure your lifestyle is not demanding sacrifices your future self will regret.

Because there is a big difference between “I can afford this” and “I need this so people will think I can afford it.”

One is financial capacity.

The other is insecurity wearing designer clothes.

So yes, “From POS to OS because of iOS” is a joke.

But underneath the joke is a serious question:

How far are young Nigerians willing to go to look like they have made it?

Because if your lifestyle is constantly forcing you to find money you genuinely do not have, the problem is no longer the phone.

The problem is the pressure to look successful before you actually become successful.

What annoys me the most is seeing young ladies with the latest iPhones and the only thing they know what to do with it is use it to take pictures... angry angry angry. If not for unnecessary pressure to be seen as a "big girl" or for some stupid "levels", many of them would be perfectly ok with a mid-range phone that'll satisfy all of their needs (taking pictures, making videos and messaging) almost as good as the flagship phones. How can you be using a phone of close to a million naira and the only thing you use it for is taking borrow pose pictureshuh undecided undecided

Trust me, men are low-key jealous of women's ability to sell sex.

Tell me how many of y'all will ignore 100k for one round?.

If it were equally easy for men. We'd have more male prostitutes in society. Just sad how women have brainwashed us to think we are gaining something from sex and they are losing.

Men are jealous of women selling their bodies?

https://www.tiktok.com/video/7644699735466544397

In 2008, a 22-year-old college graduate using the pseudonym Natalie Dylan grabbed global headlines by announcing she was auctioning her virginity to the highest bidder to fund a master's degree. After eBay banned her initial listing, she partnered with the Moonlite Bunny Ranch, a legal brothel in Nevada, to host the auction.

Men are not wired that way. Men are busy working hard and inventing things for the betterment of the world. Women are the ones who would gladly use their body to their advantage

It's so bad you would see a career woman displaying nudity for whatever reasons is known to her. Once life is tough a little bit, the next thing a woman thinks of is to sell sex. Whether beautiful , ugly, slim, fat...whatever ....the next option is selling sex.

The funny thing is many Nigerians dont seem to understand how low morality and standard of living have gone in this country.
By the time it backfires, everyone will have a price to pay

.. That nudity is the need for validation. Even married men are not free from it. Why do you think they designed Instagram and all those things that have mirrors or take pictures for admiration? You see all these women showing their bum and tight clothes don't know what they are doing? The fastest way a man can lose his woman is not to praise her or commend her beauty. That's why they move from fathers to father-like husbands. Only a few percent know how to think about it letting those things deceive them. Haven't you heard of the phenomenon called Invisible Woman Syndrome?

The hustle is real.
Most POS ladies uses expensive phones and most of them fkkks their clients as low as 5k.
You can't blame them, that 5k is almost what they make doing POS from morning till night. And one guy is ready to offer you that within 1hr plus food and drinks. If na you nko

It's not about who is gaining or losing from sex. Women know that men are dying to have sex and the demand is strong. So they decided to monetize the demand. A woman will feel bad giving sex for free when she knows she could have earned money from it. You should blame men for lacking self-control because if men stop demanding for sex too much, women will start offering it for free because they also need the pleasure.

9/10 of these girls using the iphone do not have good jobs doing.
Boyfriends and sugar daddies bought.
Always recharging Data for the sake of TikTok videos..... It's so annoying.

I'm telling the truth, a young girl ( 16yr) going to SS 2 this term, is yearning for phone of N150,000... I told her that her parents have failed in parenting

As long as men are in dire need of sex, such and many more would continue to happen. Complaining doesn't solve anything, as you cannot fight nature. Men will continue to pay for sex (commitment, cash or in kind).

Of course! That is why they pounce more on women rather than men. Before you read an article that criticises men paying for sex (direct cash or taking a woman out), you would have 100 articles that censure women. In my opinion, it is a pointless and needless exercise because men will always desire more sex than women, and this desire creates a lopsided demand which only women can cater for. So, there would always be women who are willing to offer sexual pleasure for a price.

The onus is on this group of men is to know how the men who pay for sex make their money rather than admonishing them for paying for sex. Men will always pay for sex; nothing will stop it. Women will always prefer the highest bidder.

The alternative is for this group of men to go the eligibility route, but the demand there is too low. The sexual pleasure a young woman has to offer is greater than any sexual pleasure a man, young or old, has to offer.

Basic biology and economics.

P.S. The men who overly condemn women who get rewarded for sex WOULD do WAY WORSE when they have the opportunity. That is why they don't hit the men in the same manner they do with the women.
