If they stop importing. Will the Chinese be stopped from taking over completely.
Are you suggesting the Chinese can now take over completely
They are currently into manufacturing and agriculture come to Agbara, Atan, Igbesa, Ifo, Sagamu, Obafemi Owode in Ogun State.

I can't imagine what will happen in the next 10 years.

They are even applying for Nigeria citizenship

I honestly want China to take over our markets even in the US China still had a good percentage stake in their markets forget all the TRUMP noise about tarrifs etc

China don't joke with MONEY. MONEY and GAINS ain't the same in COMMUNIST THEORIES... They are communist for a reason... Sometimes what fits this globe is COMMUNISM
Naa, I don't want them to take over our markets.
A country is owned by its people.
And majority of a country's-people operate in the retail arm of their country.
We will automatically surrender our sovereignity as a nation from Manufacturing to consumers if we surrender the retail line of business.

Unlike the US that has a strong manufacturing hub, research, logistics and few others influences.

I disagree with this point of view (that China will “conquer” Africa soon), but I have a lot on my hand today, so I won’t engage in that argument.

I admire the Chinese because they are remarkably strategic and deliberate in pursuing what they set out to achieve. They do not seem to waste much time pretending or disguising their intentions; once they identify a target, they remain focused and persistent until they accomplish it.

Exactly! And this could happen to any stock once a top stakeholder, CEO etc becomes interested in mopping the shares to acquire more stake.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by megawealth01: 9:58am On Sep 18
I have always believed that FBN would not remain down forever. In my view, one of the major issues affecting FBN was Oba Otudeko and now that he has been removed, we are beginning to see a different trajectory.

I believe the same principle applies to Oando. In my assessment, Wale Tinubu is the major factor holding the company back. If he is eventually removed, I believe Oando could experience a remarkable transformation and potentially witness tremendous growth.

🇮🇳India asked 🇳🇬Nigeria, during a meeting with Vice President Shetimma, if Nigeria is interested in becoming a full BRICS member

Here is his response: /video/1

Why can't they allow the Chinese to import cement, sugar, flour, palm oil, fuel and sell cheaper to Nigeria. This will bring down high profits by igbo trader

There are tariff and non tariff restrictions to trade

Even the Americans and Japanese are complaining about China's unsavoury tactics.

We are a small fry in comparison to them

When you bring your product at "0% tariff" but from behind, the chinese have already subsidised your local competitor, you think you are gonna compete on level ground against such tactics?

Again, I really pity Africa's future

Here I was being critical of our ancestors for their shortsighted ways, not knowing that its default behaviour lol
Yet exports are increasing, make it make sense.

They have encouraged us to export by granting Nigeria alongside other African countries 0% tariff on exports.
What stops us from manufacturing and exporting processed and finished goods that will make them increase their import from Nigeria?.
We only export raw commodity goods to them.

Unfortunately, They've done their part for us. The problem lies with us.
Exactly.

you want to compete with the chinese when it comes to manufacturing. cheesy grin

Even the westerners cant and these are the leaders in that space

Do you even know how non tariff trade barriers work?

Do you know how weaponised subsidies put foreign competitors at a huge disadvantage?

Smh for us oo
The average westerners won't take the wage that a Chinese factory worker would but the average Nigerian will, what I think we need is the machineries and power.

Our exports increased by 80% since the tariff drop.
I think our exported goods competed enough.
The problem is we export mostly raw materials rather than variety of processed finished goods manufactured here.

you propose we tax and tariff them heavily, which is good and fine, but no clear solution to how you will navigate their own hammer if they reciprocate same? and the effect to heavily based Nigerian traders and their families both in Nigeria and China.

Not forgetting they are already our industrial backbone from Rail, to roads, to bridges,etc..

Do you obviously think we can survive the tariff war?

Your solution is "The
I businessmen can always pivot, they will be fine, I ain't worried bout us;"
..
Is this not shortsightedness without future direction;
Mr. longsighted with customized setting?

We have to find a solution to ourselves first before taking them on. Otherwise we no go win.
Thank you. Very honest and implementable solution
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by crownprince2017: 10:22am On Sep 18
The difference is clear, dangote has factories, pay tax, employ millions of Nigerian. Trader on the other hand doesn't have factory, doesn't plan to have one, employ just 1-5 staffs, pay low to nothing as tax and crying to be protected to continue importing.

If you can't compete against the Chinese, go home or go to your state and chase the Chinese a way, in South west, Chinese have come here to stay.. grin cheesygrin
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by megawealth01: 10:23am On Sep 18
I believe China could achieve significantly better economic outcomes if it were given the responsibility of managing Nigeria’s economy, particularly because of its emphasis on long-term planning, strategic execution, discipline and sustained development.

chimex38:
I don't like the chinese invasion of our retail space, it will spiral to other areas. Indirectly taking away our own small sovereigncy space wey we dey manage for the retail side after we've reluctantly surrendered our manufacturing and construction space to them.

But they've done nothing wrong IMO.
they are taking advantage of our situation we ourselves created.
Unfortunately, we're taking too long, far too long to stabilize the economy and citizens want cheaper things to cushion the effect of hardship in other areas.
unfortunately at our future detriment.
How do we lose our construction space to them, there is still competition there.
