emmanuelewumi:
Did you know where we were coming from when it built those schools under 12 months?

That was at a time when we had shift system in Lagos public schools. A set of students will go to school in the morning and after set will go to school in the afternoon, because we did not have enough schools in Lagos.

What he did then was to provide a structure that could serve purpose of schooling, he also got teachers from Ghana, India and some other countries.

Did the students who attended Jakande school get good education? Yes.
Some of those students are now in their mid 50s and 60s.

If Jakande was in charge for 8 years, I am sure he would have upgraded the schools.

Average civil servants could afford to buy an apartment in his estates for between N4000 and N6000.

Unfortunately you will need a minimum of N60 million in order to buy an apartment in the estates built by our current leader.

His estates were affordable because he dealt directly with the manufacturers of building materials
Political opponents, (especially NPN) wanted to undermine and ridicule Awolowo and UPN's achievements in the educational sector in the West comprising Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo and Bendel states. Some of us attended those schools and sat in classes they described as ''pig barns'', ''poultry farms'' etc. Today, we are thankful to Awolowo, his UPN governors and can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those who attended the so called ''best schools'' of that era and beyond.

Some had their education beginning from classes under the tree, but they went on to become great men and women in society.

That is why I personally hold the opinion that Nigeria is too big to be adminstered centrally. Frankly speaking, It is too big to be a country. A lot of things are forced on people because we want everyone to go at the same pace. It's a deception that only serves for eternal suspicion, mistrust and retrogression. The irony is that we all realize this but afraid to face it.

Chinese store and prices in lagos.

See the price difference and look yourself in the mirror then justify why my brother should suffocate me in the name of trading.

The problem is the attitude and mindset of the people.

Just have a look of countries like India, Brazil, Indonesia etc. and you would see that Nigeria is actually a small country, relatively.
Even DR Congo is more than 2 times bigger than Nigeria in land area. But Nigeria has higher population.

Even if the country should divide, nothing would work in the new, smaller countries if we/they retain this same destructive attitude and mindset.

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 2:47pm On Sep 21
When I said too big, I do not reference only land mass and population. The diversity in our population has proven more problematic than being resourceful. For instance, it is laudable to utilize public funds for religious propagation in some homogeneous communities whereas some others would rather spend on education. And then Abuja comes up with NECO and JAMB to level everybody up educationally regardless of the choices at the grassroots. You check the profiles of some professors in some parts of the country and you would see that such profiles would struggle to be ranked as senior lecturers in other universities in the same country.

I hear people say there is beauty in diversity but as far as Nigeria is concerned, our own diversity is a mess.

GTCO is about to maintain the usual social distancing with its younger brother ZENITHBANK. ZENITHBANK will also tag along when the moneybags start deploying, though.

You are right to a large extent.
But I think another problem is that, at independence, we did not have a single, unifying national leader or founder of the nation s e.g. like Mandela, Sekou Toure, Julius Nyerere, Kenneth Kaunda, Kwame Nkrumah etc.
There was little or no nationalistic consciousness
So we got independence without a nationalistic direction, philosophy etc. And it is affecting us up to date.

That’s because ZENITHBANK was far more efficient, I believe. Nonetheless, GTCO has almost always (>a decade) traded at a higher share price. I actually have a proprietary “golden correlation” model for the differential between the duo.

Something interesting is developing in AVACAP today.
📊 Volume: 14.32M shares
💰 Value traded: ₦71.78M
📈 Day high: ₦5.20
🟢 Strong demand around ₦5.00
🟢 Visible supply above the current price is being tested.
What catches my attention is the absorption around ₦5.00. Sellers have been coming in, but buyers continue to defend the level.
Now the focus shifts to ₦5.30–₦5.35.
If buyers clear those offers and AVACAP can close decisively above ₦5.35, the technical structure could become much more bullish going into the new week. 🚀
👀 ₦5.00 — demand zone
⚔️ ₦5.30 — immediate battle
🚀 ₦5.35 — key breakout confirmation
AVACAP may be preparing for a bull ride… but let the closing price confirm it. 🔥📈

MARKET UP TARGET TECHNICAL ANALYSIS
**NIGERIA STOCK MARKET UPDATE 21 SEPT 2026
Today the Allshare index is behaving contrary to our expectations. The Allshare is showing -0.12, as at time of this post. We can see that market reduced the initial loss towards the close.

However, there is a compensating factor from the Market Breadth, the number of gainers (counted>34) are far more than the losers.

Generally the market has the short term support at 248529.

Oil price is retracing as Saudi Arabia is now in position to export some oil. IRAN is still under pressure, and Isreal's likely sympathy friendship with Saudi Arabia will definitely be of concern to IRAN, Isreal has proved to be a specialist at handling the job of taking out key trouble makers in opposing Nations, so if Saudi give Israel the assignment of providing Intel service, IRAN shoukd be in small trouble if they continue to disturb Saudi Arabia as the Saudis will definitely respond silently which is where Israel will come in.

For the Nigeria market, oil price will stay elevated for some time. Any price above $67 to $75 still has some elements of a windfall there. So no big worry for the economy and the stock market.

Wishing all the best.

Is this also empowerment or a subtle way of rewarding a select set of people?

I'm just trying to understand the rationale behind the 'gesture'
