About this Dangote Refinery IPO sef: Does anyone have a sense of the degree of oversubscription for mid-level investors? I don't want to tie down funds in a futile effort.

Guy, stop abeg. It's one thing not to understand an issue; it's another to persist in your lack of understanding. That the holders of common equity get last dibs on a business' profits and assets is such a fundamental concept in business law and practice that it is not worth a debate. It's the reason equity investors demand a higher rate of return than lenders of working capital. Rest.
Abeg tell am. grin

elengine:
I personally feel that Oando shareholders need to organise themselves and attend their next AGM. The only issue is my Whale may decide to move the meeting to virtual call😀😀😀

That is not how public company accounting works.

Salaries are a cost of production. They are incurred and paid as operations run. Profit is calculated at the end of the period—not before. You don't pay salaries "from profit." You pay them as an operating expense, and profit is what remains.

It is not only the bid—the price rally that follows the bid will be massive. That is why I am following everything happening around Oando. I don't want to miss it.

Your dream will come to pass. The only issue is the time difference between our world (reality) and dreamland.

My point is there won't be a flat rate max. Someone who applied for N30,000 units likely to get more than the person who applied for 20,000 units

Yes probably so. Some might get more than 10k depending on number of subscribers.

If i get him well, His 10k estimate is that there might be a maximum cap of 10k for every subscriber first-of-all to make sure the shares goes round to everyone. This will happen before probably another round of allotment is issued again.

Not everyone might benefit from the 2nd round(if at all) before entire subscription is filled up. Thus, a refund for some people who demanded more units, but might only get the 10k worth.

That's his maximum prediction/guess/estimation.
Not a guaranteed quota.

You get?

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by lawani(m):

I don't believe thata how it works. Workers are paid from operating expenses and other revenue streams...dividends are based on pure profit per share and are calculated after expenses(including salaries) are subtracted. You can pay easily workers and still be at a loss and not pay dividends. Dividends are not compulsory.
You can't pay anybody in a private company without paying the owner. A public company has owners too and it should be the same way. What makes sense is that you shouldn't be able to pay owners automatically the same amount you pay the workers but to not pay them at all would be unfair. What is automatic for public company shareholders should not be more than one third of the wage bill.
However it is a personal position and not law in any country

The idea is an upgrade of the stock exchange
Remember you being able to invest at all in the stock exchange is because of a thinker not because of people following Laid down rules.
It is already what some companies do by paying interim dividend before the main thing

This isn’t correct. An employee’s contract is different from a shareholder’s, whose returns are subject to the availability of profit. From a financial-engineering perspective, it’s entirely possible for a company to keep declaring losses while still making profits. Besides, if we apply your logic, most tech companies would be owing their employees.

I don't understand your tech company example. Can you explain it? Once you can't pay your employees then you are out of business. A shareholder is the owner. You are using their capital to work. They own the company they don't have a contract with the company.
