Today’s the last day to buy GTCO shares and benefit from the tashere N1.00 interim dividend to be paid on October 20.

Dividend investors, take note.
Isn't it 19th October?

I don't think so but that is what happened under the ''trial and error'' govt

Please provide the pre-award EIA report and technical drawings if you have them.
These are some of the issues that caused problems with Umahi. He was asked to provide the EIA report and technical drawings for the project BEFORE the contract was awarded. He could not provide any because there was none!

The contract was awarded FIRST before they started considering these key issues.

Please do not show us the EIA report and technical drawings that came up AFTER the award of the contract!

The clearest evidence is the chop and change that you see them do on the project!

Also tell us if there was a tender for the project before it was awarded
That is another issue entirely—another glorification of ignorance and pettiness.

How can one ask an appointed executive minister such questions on a TV interview?

Such matters are handled in a technical workshop. And it will not be the minister who attends—it will be the site engineers, designers, environmentalists from the client and contractors, NGOs, professional regulatory bodies, NSE, COREN, etc and journalists, with all manner of standards to be verified. A thorough review will not take less than a week.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Itzlinda(f): 9:59am On Oct 12
mikeapollo:
All these issues were raised by concerned citizens and analysts but the govt ignored and went ahead and awarded such a huge contract to cronies of the president:.
No Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report.
No competitive tender for the project
No national budget appropriation
No national assembly scrutinyy
No comprehensive technical designs/drawings for the project.
etc.

But the president awarded the contract just like that and said the day the project was flagged off was his ''bragging day''
In other words, he awarded the project so that he could have something to brag with! imagine that!
And his numerous political goons always supported him, including Umahi.
Today, the same Umahi is praising the president for diverting the express road to connect to other existing roads.
So, the question is: what happens to the initial bloated cost of the contract?
The initial contract cost ain't really an issue. It was not paid upfront. Projects are paid on the basis of work done. You request for valuation and payment after every progress in the project.

This was always the likely outcome and partly planned from the start with a degree of certainty. Tinubu is the one who sells the vision, both Tinubu and Umahi know the feasibility is low. But it's easier to sell a coastal road that develops the whole South than tell people you want to develop Lagos and Ogun coast only. City boy is not just a name, Tinubu is Lagos centric.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by mikeapollo: 10:01am On Oct 12
ghm:
So you think an engineering project—the construction of a road—will be done without an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and without comprehensive technical designs and drawings?

We like to demonstrate our ignorance. Partisan people and politicians can lie to make a cheap political jibe at opponents. But we should not join them.

If you are an engineer in the house, kindly assist and tell them if such is possible. How will workmen enter the field? With what documents? How will they know the mix, the equipment, the quantity survey?

We think engineering is talk talk.

The site engineers. designers, environmentalist from the client, contractors must submit their reports to the Minister. And a very good minister must read and go through, especially for someone like Umahi who claims to be a ''professor'' in the field.
You cannot tell me that a minister supervising such huge project should not have a copy of the EIA and other technical reports.
Are we joking or what?
Who would pay when issues of compensation comes up? Is it the engineers, designers, environmentalists from the client, contractors or the Minister?

Please let's rest the matter.

I am tempted to share some key engineering/EIA methods, but there is no need—because I don't think those raising it want to know. They are just playing politics with it.

Please let's rest the matter.

Well, now you should use your own IQ and stop derailing the thread with anti-govt responses that don't stand the test of true scrutiny. When you feel you must have a contrary opinion to anything the govt does, no matter how well-intentioned, it sets u up for public ridicule

MTN P/E ratio is around 12-13X not 24.88X as stated by you.
either you dont know how to calculate P/E or you are deliberately misleading people...
haba you doubled their P/E ratio....the shares of mtn would have to be 1600 to have P/E of 24.88...

The P/E ratio is 12-13X and that too is the trailing P/E now the forward P/E which is much lower....

Any person with the littlest of emotional intelligence should know that this forum is not the appropriate space to change the political choices of anyone. The most that anyone can achieve is to turn the forum to a rantsHQ to the detriment of all.

Those who have a strong political views should look for appropriate spaces created for such to ventilate their opinions and do their political heavy lifting.

There is something called the Freedom of Information Act (2011). It authorises anyone to request any public document—for example, the EIA of a government project like the Lagos-Calabar Highway—from custodians. The Act also mandates custodians to make such documents available.

What you did not know was that Arise TV was bullying the minister to request it on the spot on TV. The minister could have requested it if they had told him in advance—or directed them to the Ministry of Environment.

Arise TV eventually wrote to the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry responded with all the documents and even issued a press release.

If you are not partisan or a politician, do not join them in their war.

My brother, I was not referring to Arise TV alone. The minister was interviewed on different fora.
Anyway, I have been vindicated: they have decided to re-route the project because of flooding issues in some sections in Delta State.
This is what comprehensive EIA and feasibility reports would have detected and found solutions to, long before now.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by megawealth01: 10:48am On Oct 12
I have made up my mind to reduce my political discussions on social media because, honestly, many of una here are HYPOCRITES!

NIGERIA IS AN EXTREMELY WEALTHY NATION in terms of the natural resources buried beneath our soil. Yet, despite this enormous wealth, millions of Nigerians continue to struggle to survive.

The problem is that many of our politicians appear more interested in protecting their personal interests, enriching their families, and rewarding their cronies than ensuring that the ordinary Nigerian benefits from the nation’s abundant resources.

A nation blessed with so much wealth should not leave its citizens struggling in so much poverty.

The hypocrisy is in how some people defend the same system that continues to deny them the benefits of their own nation's wealth.

At this point, I would rather speak less and observe more. Because when the truth becomes inconvenient, many people would rather defend their interests than stand for what is right.

This is our biggest problem. The biggest scam played on Nigeria was convincing us that we are a wealthy nation. We all grew up believing this falsehood. We were never wealthy except when we started coming close in the brief 2010 -2013 era (not even in the Gowon 1970’s were we anything close to wealthy) and even in our greatest era (2010 - 2013), we were clearly on shaky ground due to high oil prices which started coming down in 2014 and with it Nigeria.

You guys are supposed to just highlight the issue with the analysis—with a good attitude—or share your corrected versions. He will take a look and update it.

I remember when I posted some calculations and omitted a key item that could have drastically affected my result. Some very senior and knowledgeable people here pointed it out. But the manner of humility and respect they did it with made me redo the calculations and repost.

I mean exactly where you obtained that questionable First Class degree you’re brandishing. However, if an ostensible Oluwole degree is used to get a job at, say, a large multinational corporation such as XOM and the candid performed fantastically well, then the “Oluwoleism” theory becomes a mere jealousy in the absence of concrete contrary evidence. The more reason why your own degree is highly questionable—you’ve never snagged an employment with it. So until January 2027, hide your face. 🫣🙈✌️

Nigeria was/is wealthy, but we misused the wealth!
Gowon, as president of Nigeria, told the whole world that Nigeria had money, i.e. wealthy nation.
During the 1970s Udoji Awards, Nigeria made huge money from crude oil due to Arab-Israeli war. The shallow, myopic govt decided to share the excess money as bonus to workers. Workers who did not own bicycle, were given so much money(bonus) to the extent that they bought things like colour tv, motorcycles, cars (Volks and 504) overnight. That is how we wasted the oil boom.
Other countries used such opportunities to build huge, serious infrastructure, which keeps sustaining their productive capacity to remain in the ''wealthy'' status today

Even currently, they are still sharing the excess crude oil money among the states and there is no accountability, no capital projects etc. Imagine if the money in the excess crude account is used to develop railway across the country, with railway terminus (stations) in each state

A country does not exist to work for the 1%. Are there 1 million Nigerians making money on stock market. If developed countries worked for 1%. I don't think Nigerians would be going there for sucess. A successful govt should tell us how many jobs were created, no of new factories opened, reduction in crime, no of low cost houses built, hospitals, roads etc. You cannot be boasting of fitch and Morgan
