A typical obidient that knows only to insult anyone or anything. they can even insult a Palm Tree if they cannot find or use a climbing rope to use for it. You are not different, so i am not surprised. small thing, Insult upon insult. na u go insult first, na u go threaten to block people as if, if you block people, they can no longer use the NSEMPA or read posts anonymously |

Streetinvestor2:Some people are stuck in 2012. So Tinubu protested a policy in 2012 and later implemented it. That is called changing your mind. It happens. The Ojota protest was legitimate then. Tinubu had every right to oppose a policy he believed was wrong. I was against fuel subsidy removal too—I wanted them to remove the corruption in fuel subsidy first. By 2014, it became obvious that the corruption in fuel subsidy could not be removed. NNPC failed consistently on cash calls. The PIB/PIA was stalled. Our oil and gas sector had become a joke worldwide. That is when I concluded: subsidy must go in full for Nigeria to breathe. And to the person suggesting GEJ should have jailed the protesters—that is not a defence of the policy. That is an argument for authoritarianism. Arresting people who disagree with you is not democracy. GEJ did not jail Tinubu then. That was democracy working. Let the past be the past. Let us manage the current situation. It is what it is. |

pluto09:There was even nothing like ''team'' when he made that comment on subsidy? Is that capacity or lack of? Being convinced to take an action depends on the kind of thinking and advice that surrounds a person or rules the mind, A mind that does not think deep enough, does not consult, is not truthful, is dishonest, without integrity, discipline, etc would take reckless decisions, all disguised as ''capacity''. That is partly why a whole national anthem was changed in 2 days, without consulting the people! You call that ''capacity''? That is partly why he caused unnecessary friction with our West African neigbhours Mali, B. Faso and Niger etc. because he recklessly issued ultimatum and threatened to invade them. Is that ''capacity''? A mad man can also take ''bold decisions'', but how rational and productive could those decisions be? Hitler and Idi Amin has so much ''capacity'' as well |

"..Given all of this, it is of course not surprising that Nigerian politicians are now competing to show who can bring it back in the most damaging way possible. Donald Duke, a presidential candidate who ought to know better (but who am I kidding), has promised to bring back petrol at N300 per litre ($0.23). Earlier, some guy who says he’s running for president under the SDP, bid this down to N200 per litre. Peter Obi says he will “remove the corruption and retain the subsidy”, whatever that means. And then, today, the finance minister announced plans for a “price modulation” as the government’s response. He said it is “neither a subsidy nor a price control: it is designed to smooth prices over time rather than suppressing them”. If you believe that, then you’ll believe anything. This is not to say that the announcement of the subsidy removal in May 2023 did not inflict a damaging wound on Nigerians that was made worse by the government’s lack of imagination or effort in cushioning the blow. All of those things are true. But Nigerians should soberly consider that what these desperate politicians are proposing are not solutions. You can have a country (barely) or you can have a subsidy with a country attached to it, which is what the old regime turned Nigeria into. These political promises are unserious. " |

| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by megawealth01: 4:12pm On Oct 20 |
hopeful95:Nigeria’s fuel subsidy debate should move beyond political promises and focus on sustainable economic solutions. Reintroducing subsidies without addressing their fiscal cost, corruption risks, and opportunity costs could recreate the same structural problems that necessitated their removal. The solution is not to abandon citizens to market forces or to return to an unsustainable subsidy regime, but to establish a transparent, targeted social protection system that cushions vulnerable households while investing in affordable transportation, healthcare, education, electricity, and job creation. The real measure of leadership is not the ability to promise cheap petrol, but the capacity to make life affordable without bankrupting the country. |

It seems you haven't been following my thesis. I'm not making these arguments out of hatred or political sentiment. I have said it here before that I personally benefited from Jagaban's administration when he was Governor of Lagos State. My concern has never been about who I like or dislike politically; it is about the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. I simply cannot reconcile the pursuit of political power with a situation in which the masses are subjected to unbearable poverty, hardship, and suffering. My criticism comes from a place of genuine concern for the people, not hatred for any individual. GeneralDae: |
| Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by megawealth01: 4:17pm On Oct 20 |
You know, at that time, Nigeria practised a more genuinely federal system, with significant regional autonomy. The political leader who mattered most to the people of the Western Region was the Premier, not necessarily the President at the federal level. GeneralDae: |

AI write-ups with generic takes...Lol. Some people are stuck in 2012 - 2014. At some point you have to let go and move on. You can't live life carrying much hate and resentment towards your fellow humans because they disagree with you politically, are of a different ethnic stock or how they worship their God. If you can't change your mind/opinion in the face of new and compelling information then you're not a smart person and we should genuinely question your education. Sanusi's argument during that 2012 subsidy removal debate proves instructive. The videos are available on Youtube for anyone to watch over again. He largely predicted what's happening today. We frittered away the gains of that period and we are now paying dearly for it. Two things can be right at the same time: Opposing the removal of subsidy in 2012 was stupid, and saying the removal of subsidy in 2023 should be reversed is acting like an ignoramus. Any major policy flip flop will not be good for the markets. I am sure the purveyor of the populist ideas know better than to do something that stupid. |
