Mattswaggz:Lack of mechanised large-scale farming. Most farming in Nigeria, and indeed Africa is small scale subsistence farming, which is not enough to 'feed' a nation or to export agric surplus. That's why Mugabe's attempt to recover white farms was a mistake...it probably meant a lot of black farmers got land..good...but at the expense of Zimbabwe's large surplus food production that enabled it to feed itself and export a lot of surplus to earn forex. |

nairalanda1:It is lack of political will If the government is ready it can get investors with incentives and provide adequate storage facilities ( which I think is were we are losing it) You would see investment All they need is true and palpable politicians will |

They have already updated map to show how big Africa is, we have to take full advantage of every area, especially with the risk of growing desert which other countries like China doing very well in reducing desert in their land Also the issue of just selling our resources and buying the finished products is totally insane, the colonial system that now China and others are taking full advantage of is really hurting us |

Racoon:With our eyes wide open, we allowed terrorists and bandits take over those swaths of land to steal the natural resources. Rather than engage seriously in agriculture, citizens suffer on their own lands, while bandits mine gold and other precious mineral resources. The north is the most affected, as some leaders have been accused of aiding and abetting the crime going on there. They seem to be content with kidnapping for ransom. Cotton and palm oil used to fetch this country plenty of money. Those ended long ago, with. O possibility of restarting. We need a man of integrity like PO to ensure that the mess is cleaned up. |

Sonnobax15:What a pity That why they only see Africa as poor countries because of western back puppets. When we talk they said is it CIA that is forcing Africans leaders not to develop but the answer is YES the west blocking Africa to develop. They are really fighting Dangote seriously for what his doing in Nigeria . This is an incredible video. Deep down, we’ve always known this. Qatari officials ADMITTED that America forces the Arab nations to spend their money on useless projects and lavish sports tournaments. Arab money is held in US banks, and the Arabs have to ask permission from the Americans whenever they wish to withdraw and spend their own money. They’re like a 16-year-old kid asking their Dad for permission to use his credit card. If an Arab ruler wanted to spend his billions on new factories, shipyards, and new strategic industrial projects, America would refuse to give him permission. But if the Arab ruler wanted to spend his billions on new music concerts, tennis tournaments, and luxurious hotels, then America would give him permission to spend the money. America doesn’t want you to be strategically independent of them, because they would lose their leverage and control over you. They want these small, divided, and weak Arab states to be dependent on the US forever. America uses modern industry and comfort to hold you hostage. These golden handcuffs ensure that you will never defy the Americans. Your electrical grid, antibiotics, refrigerators, and machinery are all dependent on US supply chains. If you dare defy America, they will shut off your imports and your people will starve. It’s not like the people in Riyadh and Doha know how to farm. They live in skyscrapers and they buy their food from local grocery stores which rely on modern equipment and global imports. Breaking this cycle of dependence relies on breaking the very supply chains which keep millions of people fed and housed. In a perverse way, being developed makes you more dependent. That’s why nations like Afghanistan and Yemen are more able to defy America, simply because they’re less developed and less reliant on imports.

Sonnobax15:And the continent has lands and endless water. So blessed. Here is the problem.. The colonial masters planned out african countries and since then, african countries have not sat down and reorganized them selves. That is the main issue. I dont know why we have not actually done this. It is the key to the issue. And the continent is battling terrorism at scale which affects farming. I was telling someone the other day that our univiersities alone can supply us with enough rice. |

nairalanda1:You are fond of giving excuses on behalf of Nigeria ! What stops Nigeria from mechanizing 🤷🏻♀️ Bubu trying to boolster agric with NIRSAL ✅ was an okay move. But giving huge funds to yam and goat ❌❌❌ without any form of supervision was what destroyed the program |

| Re: The Countries Dominating Global Food Production (Photos) by Samuels90: 12:38pm On Oct 26 |
nairalanda1:True. Farming in Nigeria can get better. We need security, a lot of small-Young subsistence farmers are scared to even begin because of the insecurity. Nigeria as a nation should not lack food , or buy expensive. No magic can make the country proper if citizens are scared to even move freely or start up something small. Nigeria needs to take security very seriously for the country to thrive! |

| Re: The Countries Dominating Global Food Production (Photos) by Samuels90: 12:43pm On Oct 26 |
Jayhome24:Indonesia and co lead that chat. Ivory Coast and Ghana lead in Africa. CNN has a program where they show how local farmers make chocolate in villages and export. Now investors have come in and they are been packaged right. Nigeria has deep leadership problems. Our leaders don’t even look like people who want the citizens to thrive, they just want to get there and make money for their generations. |
| Re: The Countries Dominating Global Food Production (Photos) by nairalanda1(m): 12:48pm On Oct 26 |
VeeVeeMyLuv:Would you want to set up a mechanized farm yourself, son? Plus, saying that Nigeria cannot do something or isn't doing something is not an excuse, and it does not mean that I believe the government is suddenly wonderful and great...infact one can even take my comment as a subtle attack on government not creating the enabling enviornment for such to be done. You should learn to stop calling people who think differently from you government supporters. It shows you as having one way of thinking...a rigidity in thinking so to speak. |
| Re: The Countries Dominating Global Food Production (Photos) by Samuels90: 12:52pm On Oct 26 |
lamentor78:Most African leaders lack leadership skills. They just want to get power and steal money. Nigeria is supposed to be a massive exporter of food, but people can’t Even go to farm because of insecurity. Farms in South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia are well structured, and most farmers are recognized by Govt, we don’t have that in Naija. Do you know they still sell yam tubers #500 in Benue, Benue has food, there are ready to farm, but they live in fear. We play too much politics and leave governance, that is why the country suffers. |
